This is clearly a cost saving measure. We have 3 devices with 14 and my phone with 15. It would be to Apple’s best interest to keep the 14 security updates coming.

iOS devices do not show iOS 15 and point releases as new updates available unless you've already manually chosen to update to iOS 15.

Step 1: Stop shipping MacOS that clearly is not ready for public release.

September 1 shall become “Turn off Automatic Updates” for now on after dumping that trainwreck Safari update on us.

iOS 15 was a terrible upgrade that made zero improvements to anything I use an iPad for and made a right mess of the Ui. I sold that iphone & ipad, went back to my old iPad mini 5 and iPhone 8, both with 14.7, where I will sit until I see what iOS 16 looks like. idgaf about the passive aggressive strongarm tactics. If a security update (reasonably questioned anyway now since Apple demonstrated its willingness to turn our devices into federal snoops on us) comes at yet another cost to a functional UI, you can bet the adoption rate will be slow.

Monterey has been just as big of a disaster as iOS 15 and Windows 11 in this office. I don't know if we have a single application, network function, or piece of equipment that hasn't been rendered considerably more cumbersome or non-functional. Is this just the year when software co's get bored with coherent concise interfaces and boring functionality, and just apply dynamite to it all for lulz or what.

I hope they continue this policy of giving users a choice when a new iOS is released. It lets the brave souls that wish to install the lastest and greatest do so while the people who want to wait until some of the bugs are worked out wait until the .1 or .2 release.
I like this idea since Apple seems to push the big iOS updates before they are fully ready.

Good. I’ve always thought this was a strange and rather backwards approach for them, and it’s almost like they’re admitting it by scrapping the iOS 14 security updates already. It’s no wonder the number of people on the latest version is lower than previous years.

Makes sense. They waited a while on this update and weren't as aggressive at first. Now they've cleared the bugs and it's time to get as many over to the current version as possible. Means less support costs for Apple and less resource investment in the old version. Also generally means happier users, which leads to better customer retention.

I still have my M1 iPad Pro on 14, I very much dislike the UI of 15 on the iPad, even though the widgets would be nice.

They're really going back on their word to provide security updates to users of iOS 14? WAT?!?? What if you have an older device and can't upgrade? I had told several relatives over the holidays that their devices should work even longer into the future because Apple is now supporting security updates for versions that are up to a year behind. Makes me look like a fool now. Thanks for that, Apple.

More than happy with my Xs Max iOS 13 Jailbreak. Don't see a single feature I'm missing out on either 14 or 15. They're really testing their user's patience by not bringing any visual overhauls.

I figured this would happen at some point. I was surprised that Apple initially gave users a choice to stay on iOS 14.
Yep ? how much more resources must be used to develop for two versions of software? It was nice, but i can only imagine its more streamlined to code for only one version of software. (I have no coding experience other than Shortcuts, and TI-82 ?)

True, but at same time Apple has easily reached the non-tech masses and created an OS that just makes it easy to use… and familiar.

They add little advanced features as time goes on.

No matter what Apple does, I will stick with 14.8 on iPad as long as I can. The home screen layout on 15 is ugly. Plus the layout makes no sense to me. Also, on 15, I lose the widgets that I have been using for years on 14 and earlier. If they somehow force it, so be it. Or if they reinstate the home screen layout from 14 in 15, then I will consider it. But until Apple does something like that, I will stick with 14.8 on my iPads. I did upgrade to 15 on my iPhone. But not budging on iPad.

iOS 15 has been a train wreck for me. Very sluggish performance, screen freezes, unresponsive apps, … hope this latest update finally fixes things.

The non-tech masses in particular would also appreciate the UI not changing every year.
