The latest update to Apple Music has made it much more usable. The daily genre playlists are also much better and easier to find. It used to be so difficult to find either user generated playlists or genre playlists.

Lol ridiculous! Also Apple Music users most likely have less musical ears given the desire we witness here for BT headphones etc. I think Spotify users are a little more demanding and refined in their musical needs!

Of course - that's probably it.

Imagine if I said:

People moaning about Apple Music are most likely a bit OCD and seem to spend more time being worried about how they can and cannot organise their music to the nth degree, rather than just, you know, listening to it.

JD power rankings gain MacRumors?

come on. these are bunk. they've been bunk in the automotive world, They're basically the equivelant of "pay to win" ratings
Yep. JD Power has never been taken seriously in the automotive world for very obvious reasons. The fact that we get a news article every time they open their mouths is pretty sad.

Please, this is ridiculous, first of all I have Apple Music and it's not a big deal I don't even use it. And the sound quality in Apple Music is not the best, sorry apple that it's true the new re-design it's not a big deal you still hide must of the taps. I am still very happy with Spotify, this is just bull, hey Apple how much did you pay for this. Sounds to me like Apple it's desperate. You really want to be #1 no matter what, Apple Music it's okay, it is not the last Coca Cola can in the dessert! Yes I am an Apple fan, still Apple Music service it's okay....

Get your marketing people to talk to JD Powers and they WILL find something you are number one in. That is what they do.

It's obvious how magical "Apple music" is by its overwhelming and dominating 9 point lead over Pandora and its astronomical 10 point lead over Spotify on a thousand point scale....

I've pretty much tried all these streaming services for years now. But I never used their customer service. Maybe some people do they need help. I wonder what kind of help this people need, just wondering.

I never found Spotify particularly easy to use. In my personal opinion, it's just kind of confusing and weird. Maybe it's changed since I last tried it.

But I do know that my whole family is enjoying Apple Music. Even my 63 year old dad is loving it--I'd say it's his favorite app on his iPad at the moment.

For us though, it was a no brainer. We had decades worth of CDs uploaded into Match and years worth of iTunes music purchases when Apple Music came out, and having that all in one place along side our streaming library is fantastic.

Apple is doomed.

Am I doing this right?
Lol! I thought you were but I gotta give credit to acedout! Apple's juking the stats by enlisting music fans who don't know what they're listening to. Lmao!

Spotify Premium is a great service and it's what I currently use most of the time (also subscribed to Pandora again recently). Desktop app is very good. I like the features like being able to remote control other instances, continuing where you left off. Lot of good user playlists, "Discover Weekly" playlist which is auto-generated for you has been good for me, and they are slowly starting to have good curated playlists. Chromecast support is solid (much better experience then Airplay, even with iTunes Remote). But one thing I really want is lacking: I want to be able to store my own music. So I am looking at Google Music again, and it might just work for me this time now that there is a decent unofficial desktop client ( https://www.googleplaymusicdesktopplayer.com/ ).

I tried Apple Music for 5 months last year, and it was an absolute train wreck. I've been one of the rare people who actually really liked iTunes. iTunes has had it's issues, but the feature set for library management and playback was solid. After Apple Music was added things severely went downhill (though I wasn't too happy about the UI redesign earlier than that which took away multiple windows, though I was still happy enough with iTunes). To make matters worse somewhere along the way iTunes corrupted my local library to the point where it's unusable. And they had removed the one thing that would have let me fix my library (being able to regenerate the library from the library XML file -- I know you can load it as a playlist, but that doesn't work properly). I'm still working on recovering from that one.

Needless to say, I'm not revisiting Apple Music any time soon. Lack of Chromecast support or Chromecast-like functionality also makes me less likely to want to use it (correct me if I'm wrong, does Apple TV use HDMI-CEC the way Chromecast does for music playback controlled from your phone?).

If such messed up interface can gain high customer satisfaction then everyone can develop a music app to earn millions.

Don't want to comment data itself but AM is not that great, in terms of software.

Good for Apple, every day they are getting closer to the Software and Services company they want to be. iPhone and Watch Bands are the future, sorry Macs.. you just don´t make enough money.

It's important to remember Spotify is the enemy of Apple and it's Devotees. Here in the Apple focused forum it's only natural that a large contingent will always sing Apple's Praises.

MacRumors forum is nothing like you are picturing, and this very post proves it.

Smart playlists are what brought me over to apple music. I like many in here like to rate songs out of 5 and make smart playlists out of them. So what does apple do? Eliminates star ratings on ios. Thanks guys! Wasn't bothering anybody but lets just remove a well used feature.

Apple Music is good but lacks some big things:

  1. Web app
  2. Ability to create smart playlist in ios
  3. BPM info to create exercise or sleep (activity) playlists
  4. And now star ratings in ios.
I have to say I may have to give the free spotify a go again, I think it can upload or replicate an itunes library if I'm not mistaking and well the price is better. Then again my data plan is so small and free users can't download to there device so maybe not.

I'm usually a die-hard Apple-guy, but Google has nearly won me over w/ their 3 month trial for Google Music.

Same all-you-can-eat streaming as Apple Music PLUS ad-free Youtube and offline video downloading for the exact same $9.99 price.

I wish Apple had a HI-FI mode just like tidal. I love the Apple ecosystem but that's the only service I'm not paying for..

But otherwise Apple Music is very nice.

Personally, I'm not bothered if people love Apple Music. I'd prefer to use the default music player myself, but looking at features alone, Apple doesn't come close to Spotify.

It's better to not go mainstream sometimes. Why not make up your own mind? If you're happy with Apple Music, then great! You'll never know what you're missing.

So many people bleat here about Dark Mode! Spotify has had that for years. Maybe that's good enough reason alone for many to give it a go?
Those circle ratings are complete crap. If based on a 1000 point system, all of these are above 800 and therefore score a greater than 80% rating. 2/5 isn't >80%. 3/5 isn't >80% and so on. Conversely, Apple scored 834/1000, which would be 83.4%, and numerically closer to 4/5 than 5/5. JD is literally manipulating it's own chart to imply Apple Music scored statistically higher than the competition, which it absolutely didn't as the numbers, if obviously not the bar graphs or "Circles of Excellence" clearly show. Every single service should have a 4/5 rating whether it makes for interesting reading or not, with Apple music scoring less than 2% better than the very worst performer in the group.

This is why no one in the auto industry takes JD's rankings seriously, and neither should any one else this ridiculous display of favoritism and bad math.

But Apple Music sucks, so how does Android leadership Recommend we best explain on blogs why they aren't on the bottom well behind Spotify? Biased survey? Math error? Trump effect?

I used Spotify up until AM and stopped Spotify since there was no student discount. I have 2k songs in my iTunes so I missed having a separate app. Once you get over uploading all your songs to iCloud Music Library and backing everything up firsthand, you see there's advantages. First most cars iPod capability uses data from the Music app to access playlists through the navi system. Second, whenever you add a song to your iTunes or edit a playlist, it will automatically download to your phone without having to connect to iTunes or even using wifi sync. Now that there's a student discount for AM and Spotify, I pay for both but still use AM 90% of the time.

Fanboys. People who use Apple products, LOVE Apple products.

Also, sample size.

Also, who did this company target? Kids, adults, techies, audiophiles?

Apple Music is also NEW. Spotify has been going for many years, so it's a much more mature user-base. If you look at those results in percentage terms, there is ZERO difference. You're looking at decimal places....

Just because a person wants wireless headphones doesn't make them any less qualified to judge the value of a music streaming app. You don't need musical ears to understand why a music streaming is good or not.

Also would like to add that since I like rap/hiphop music (from comments in recent posts, other MR users probably don't), I enjoy the exclusives (even the music videos) from Drake, Frank Ocean, and others that will follow. Beats1 is also nice because it has a few live segments geared towards hip-hop listeners and can even go back to listen to the streams. It seems like Spotify isn't able to get most of these high-profile artists. Spotify is great but it's not meant to manage my entire music library or make it any easier. IMO it can be a hit among younger listeners.
