Good for you. It's beyond me that these people are considered 'musicians'.
I always thought it was electrical discharge machining...The article references "EDM" but doesn't say what that acronym stands for?
Apparently, it's "Electronic Dance Music" for anyone else (like me) who had no idea.

Here's a breakdown of the basic EDM terms.
Remix = An edited version of the original song. Artist has full access to the original version (i.e. basslines, vocals etc)
Bootleg = Same as remix, but artist doesn't have access to the original song components (i.e. makes edits on top of the normal MP3 file)
Mashup = Two or more songs combined together.
Mix = Essentially a mixtape consisting of numerous songs, remixes, mashups etc.
If it's being pushed by one of the largest tech companies in the world is it really "underground"
I wish they'd make a classic rock station that's live with DJs. I'm personally not a fan of the music on Beats1 though it is cool.
Not to discount your plight, but anecdotes are typically only good for evaluating an individual experience. Your experience with Soundcloud is not everyone's experience. I'm sure there are artists who have a completely differing experience than you did. Their anecdotes would most likely be varying degrees of opposite from yours.
Hmph. I'm bitter about that punk ass kid featured in this article, enjoying all that attention.
Must be nice!![]()
Same terms as they used to be in music, for actual regular compositions, just reapplied to a world of DJ overlaying/overdubbings and other samples to call itself new.

More from Apple that I could care less about.
Yet, care enough to come to this site, read about it, and comment on it.
Fair enough. Supporting evidence does make them seem to be in a world of hurt. Again no offense, but your single anecdote was a just that... a single anecdote. I tend to lend little credence to them singularly. Combined with your other links, you make a very compelling case. A pretty disappointing, very compelling case. I really liked SC. They do look pretty f'd.

EDM is all I listen to now for the past year and I love it! Just came back from RARE NorCal concert this past weekend where DJ Carnage killed it HA
As someone who was a professional club DJ for over 30years, one of my biggest pet peeves is the current common use of the term "remix" to refer to a "cover" version (which is a song re-recorded with new artists/vocalists).
Bye bye Soundcloud.
