Love him or hate him he was instrumental in creating the app store which I believe is key to iPhone customer retention rate and therefore worth indirectly more than 50% of apples overall profits.

Cue Eddy Cue hate...

Personally I love him
I personally think its utterly DISGUSTING that a man who has destroyed iTunes, making it the worst music app on the planet, would get that much money for failure. Apple Music forces / promotes Rap music as if its the only music on the planet. Apple screams about gay rights and equality, yet they ONLY promote music that is hostile to women, whites and police not to mention what it does to young black males. So no this guy deserves a welfare check not 60 million. He needs to go.

Funny how you use the word instrument for a guy that only promotes rap music on that horrible STILL BUFFERING music app.

I thought it saved the industry. After young people just kept downloading music illegally Apple was the only company offering an atrective alternative to old fashion CDs and Napster.

Streaming services pay very little to the artist. So while it's better than nothing it's not much more. And lesser known artists don't get big corporate marketing money behind them, which gets put into just a few mainstream acts that they market to death.

It's all about the money and not about the music.

Hostile to whites? Get over yourself buddy.

The problem is that android is not better.

Tell that to the 70% market share of Android users vs 23% of iOS users. People must love crappy stuff.
I'm not defending one or the other (i use both) but just reacting to your statement.

You don't think there was a TEAM of people that designed it? An office full of programmers and web people that built it? And an army of IT people that maintain the servers that the app store runs on? Let's not forget the thousands of Apple Store employees that SELL the gadgets that run the app store. Without them (and their minimum wage pay) the app store would be useless.

If Eddy gets $60M, shouldn't everyone?

If anyone deserves $60 million it's the Cue Man!

iBooks is just so, I don't know how to say it...like I'm at a loss for words because it is so superlatively unimaginable. To think that the Cue Man gave iBooks the thumbs up, that is just priceless! As anyone who has used iBooks to organize an epub library knows, the experience is like no other!

Oh and iTunes, it's come a long way since those early versions back in the Snow Leopard era. Totaly different app today. The Cue Man got in there to git 'er done and he ruled like a boss!

Hopefully he will spend some of it on a stylist. He always looks like he's just rolled out of bed and into a poorly fitting suit.

It's actually 86% Android and 13% iPhone as of last quarter. :)

But regardless... it's tough to use market share to prove any kind of point.

The average price of an Android phone is around $200... with many available as low as $100

I'd say the majority of those Android purchases are based on price... not the platform itself.

If you only have $100 to spend on a smartphone... guess what you're gonna buy? It won't be an iPhone.

Could've brought someone else in that would have been twice as successful at less than half the cost.

Are we supposed to give a damn?

If you're a stockholder, absolutely.

He wears suits?

I have no opinion on him. Some here, many in fact, act like they know this guy, yet they're Clueless.

Bottom line, this company is rewarding mediocrity.

Generating staggering amounts of revenue hourly Apple has more cash than ever. Operating at the level they are makes staying in touch with reality very challenging.

Did you forget to add /s at the end of your comment?

I guess you are refering to coding?
I'm sure Eddie will be the first to admit he is not the greatest at this - I guess its his team that sees to this aspect - with a view where possible to 'get it right first time' GIRFT

I went from love itunes to dont like it much, love the original iphone music app, to absolutly hate it now. Both apps are a mess now - compare browsing music on the original ipod and an iphone now and tell me honestly, whos better?? If Cue is the one responsible for ruining these apps he doesnt deserve a single dollar from me..

Life is good on top of the mountain. Good to see where the real profit in computer science is located.

Promoted by Tim Cook.

Apple Music = flawed and lagging behind
Siri = still buggy 5 years later
Maps = let's not go there
Apple Pay = good
iCloud = flawed and lagging behind

Receive $60 million

Apple does to behave like a startup that has no responsibility to an existing user base. Apple treads very carefully, but this results in very slow progress, too. The above points fail to realize just how MUCH those services have improved. No company can ever be at or stay at the front of everything forever, but Apple has remained at the front of hardware design and user experience in the grand scheme. The grand scheme. Perfect, no, but still far better than that of the competition, maybe not individual services, but across all of them.

Trust me, I have my list of beefs with Apple, but it's still not enough to get me to drop the platform for a less enjoyable platform.

There seems to be a lot of people on this thread that didn't actually read the article and/or understand what's happened here.

Eddy Cue was awarded restricted shares back in November 2011 (i.e. he could not sell them). And now just under 5 years later a large chunk of these shares have vested and become regular shares that he can sell/trade/etc.

Since then share value has increased significantly, and thus the value of the shares Cue was awarded have also increased.

This is in no way Tim Cook or Apple themselves rewarding Eddy for a job well done over the past 5 years. They provided Cue these shares and thus this money in advance, letting the market decide how much value Cue actually received 5 years later.

So if you're upset that despite perceived lack of performance due to Apple Music/Siri/Maps/iCloud/iTunes over the past 5 years that Cue just made $60M, your target of angst in this case should be the market (and everyone who purchased Apple products to help push their value up since November 2011).
