I still don't understand Apple Music. I want to own my music. I have tried both Apple and Spotify over the years and just don't like not having the songs I want and the ones I don't remain unbought.

iPad and Mac apps will be showcased at the WWDC with the new iPadOS and MacOS.
Maybe.
Well, the iPad app will be showcased, and if we're lucky they'll mention which brand of duct tape they've used to attach it to MacOS.

iTunes Store is still in the sidebar if you want to own the music.

Serious question, I’m on Spotify. Is classical music not available at all on existing Apple Music?

I have zero subscriptions with Apple, and I will not. I buy a CDs and have the music I LIKE on my devices.
Better yet I buy a heap of CDs 2nd hand, so my music collection is cheaper than a subscription.

I have a friend who has an album on Spotify, they get paid $0.01 for every 1000 track plays.

Yes - as everyone has indicated - the cnet video explains why a separate classical music app is needed. - AppleMusic has a huge classical catalog, however it is subject to the shortcomings (that are shared by spotify and all the streaming services currently) outlined in that video.

It is, but as the Apple Music (app) interface is designed for 'modern' music geared towards categorisation by artist/track/album etc, finding the classical music you want isn't really doable. Sure, if you just want to listen to a performance of Beethoven's 5th that's easily done, but if you want to listen to Beethoven's 5th played by the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Carlos Kleiber in 1975 (commonly considered the best rendition ever recorded), then you need tools to find it that the Music app just doesn't offer. I suspect the same's true of Spotify too.

"There is no version of Apple Music Classical for iPadOS, making it an iPhone-only app."

There is no version of Apple Music Classical for any platform right now. Calm your horses...

No PadOS version? I guess that’s not a huge deal but I use my iPad to play music/podcast and such as background noise in the house which frees my phone up for…. Ummm, using it as a phone. 🤣

How much time do you spend ripping, organizing, and syncing music from thrift store CDs?

I would expect any ipad to be able to run the iPhone version of the app, albeit in that weird aspect ratio at 1x or 2X zoom.

So very glad they made a standalone app! Based on the screenshots and the PR it looks like it’ll be nicely curated and properly categorized! Yea! 🙏

I may not buy anymore HD Tracks Hi-Res classical anymore, happy wallet! Honestly.

I still feel better owning my music though.

All I can do is shake my head in bewilderment.
