Or just buy a Tesla... the 2012 Model S received dozens of the same free OTA updates that the 2021 vehicles did (granted, it didn't receive all the features... they can't magically give it new cameras and other sensors... but as much as possible, they keep all the vehicles running the same software. They're like Apple in that regard but to a greater extreme sense since the vehicles are expected to be in use for several decades, not ~5 years like an iPhone.)
A Tesla is a no-go where I live. No proper way to charge and like 1 supercharger in a 50km radius.
Not that I’d ever have bought a German turd anyway, but not adding CarPlay is a deal breaker.
CarPlay is available though, this is not related to CarPlay at all (it‘s a separate media streaming service that allows you to use MBUX voice controls / UI to stream music without a phone).

Lovely. They add this feature but my C-Class still can't start CarPlay from my iPhone 12 (over USB cable, no wireless on the C-Class). This seems to be a problem for a lot of people, I see lots of complaints that CarPlay stopped working for them.

If this has to use the in car data plan rather than via your phone this makes no economical sense at all. At least in the UK the data plans through the car are a bloody rip off.

MBUX has no mean to use a wifi hotspot, so there is no way to use the phone data plan with it. It is only with the Mercedes partners data plans, making the feature utterly useless.

CLA == top-of-the-line???

Must have missed a few models being canceled:)

You still have carplay, you still can access your phone within the normal entertainment SW so whats the issue?
Lol this entire article is about integration into MBUX. That's the issue. We wouldn't be discussing this otherwise. Clearly, others think this is newsworthy and discussion worthy.

Are LTE/5G/Cellular iPads useless too?

In the USA, can't you get Unlimited Data with Mercedes Me for $20 a month? If you're in your car a lot, it's not an awful price.

Supercharging is for roadtrips and emergencies, not routine charging. Routine charging should be done at home or work. Adding a charger is pretty easy - it's about $10 for a NEMA 14-50 outlet plus a little more to run some conduit and wire. If you know an electrician, you can probably give them the parts and $50 to install it. If you have to call a company, maybe it's $300-400 instead.

In most localities, it's illegal for a landlord to deny you installing a charger.

Mercedes who cripples their infotainment screens to half size and don’t offer full screen in car play. Lol

Great. My brand-new maxed out CLA seems to already be obsolete… should‘ve waited for the new C-class.

This was my number one request for MBUX, pretty bummed out that they don‘t add this to the other MBUX vehicles. Should‘ve accepted that MBUX senior software engineer job offer from 2 years ago to get some insight in how f***ed up management decisions are made over there.
Dont worry, your new CLA if its the second platform generation it will get this starting with 2 of january 2022
Also the E class will get starting with 2022, EQA etc

Getting a maxed out Jetta today, with wireless carplay and charging, not to mention memory leather seats, adaptive cruise control, digital cockpit with Nav, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and all sorts of safety things I probably won’t use. For $27k. One ECU chip and one antisway bar later (under $700 combined) and good to go against many cars costing $20k more for those features, if available.

Suck it MB and BMW!

comparing a top of the line Jetta VW with a top of the line C class is ridiculous :)) ..only the price is better on that VW

Why is MB using Garamond? I thought Apple moved away from that look awhile ago. Nostalgia? Homage?

No cruise missiles?

Here we go again with awful infotainment system UI\UX designs. I'll admit this looks way better than Ford's, but that home row looks just like windows media player from Windows 98.

I thought the same before I got my Model Y last year…but don’t let that hold you back. The UI in a Tesla is so much better than CarPlay. CarPlay looks so cartoon-y and outdated compared to Tesla’s software IMO that now I hope it never comes to the vehicle (and knowing Elon, it probably never will). I switched from Apple Music to Spotify just to be able to use Tesla’s Spotify app and I haven’t missed it one bit. This is coming from someone who is heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem.
But you shouldn't have too, I believe cars should be platform agnostic. I shouldn't be forced into another eco system or use another app just o get it to work. I am in a VW, Passat but it didn't have the latest MQB to have the full experience and that is ok because the digital cockpit isn't fully integrated with carplay.

Many have likely heard of CPLAY2Air. I've had good luck with this and suggest people try this if they are truly frustrated. It may partly help. Otherwise I'd also be frustrated my 2021 AMG isn't included on this list. Still really wish Benz had wireless CarPlay. Honestly its kinda sad that Kia, VW, Toyotas, etc, etc have this and this "high end" brand doesn't. If someone knows of a good reason I'd love to me educated on it.

For anyone that cares, including our CLA owner, the new C (206) and S (223) have the latest version of MBUX. Once the other models with MBUX are updated I'd expect to see this feature available.

It‘s frustrating when you consider you bought top-of-the-line not even half a year ago and they forget about your model.
CLA isn't even close to top of the line. They're like $40k on a good day. My wife's brand new 2021 E450 Wagon has MBUX, and I honestly don't like it as much as my CLS450's Command system. Besides, in both cars, we exclusively use CarPlay.. So, since CarPlay already integrates Apple Music, not much of a loss here.

Still, I'm drooling over the EQS.. Not gonna lie, the EQS might get me to sell my CLS450. No integrated Apple Music needed as long as my CarPlay continues to work flawlessly. :)
