comparing a top of the line Jetta VW with a top of the line C class is ridiculous :)) ..only the price is better on that VW
The VW doesn’t have a 350HP turbo V6. It’s otherwise pretty comparable to the 4-cylinder C-Class, albeit with front wheel drive.

CLA isn't even close to top of the line. They're like $40k on a good day. My wife's brand new 2021 E450 Wagon has MBUX, and I honestly don't like it as much as my CLS450's Command system. Besides, in both cars, we exclusively use CarPlay.. So, since CarPlay already integrates Apple Music, not much of a loss here.

Still, I'm drooling over the EQS.. Not gonna lie, the EQS might get me to sell my CLS450. No integrated Apple Music needed as long as my CarPlay continues to work flawlessly. :)
Top-of-the-line = all options added / maxed out configuration.

Supercharging is for roadtrips and emergencies, not routine charging. Routine charging should be done at home or work. Adding a charger is pretty easy - it's about $10 for a NEMA 14-50 outlet plus a little more to run some conduit and wire. If you know an electrician, you can probably give them the parts and $50 to install it. If you have to call a company, maybe it's $300-400 instead.

In most localities, it's illegal for a landlord to deny you installing a charger.
I‘ll get this checked out. We asked once a few years ago since we own 3 parking lots in the complex garage, but they said no can do.
Isn't CLA MB's most entry-level model? It used to be the C-class but they just keep reaching lower...
CLA is the hybrid between A and C class. It used to be a popular car with the younger crowd, but they kept pushing the envelope there which means it‘s more of a C-class now than the A as reflected by the pricetag.
The user above citing maxed out $40k for his wives CLA probably means a 2012-2016 model variant, the current gen model starts at 40k here with a lowish HP engine (and next to no features). They‘re nowhere close to being entry level with configurations pushing 70k pricetags if you want the beefier tech.

When I brought my CLS450 in for service the other day, I was offered a GLC or the CLA as a loaner (they were out of every other option). My service advisor told me "don't even bother getting the CLA as you won't like it". He knows I despise SUV's...

CLA's aren't great -- definitely not a C-class equivalent. I like C's -- they're not bad looking/driving cars. But, honestly, I kinda prefer my CLS over most of their S class cars too. It has all the toys of the S, but built on the smaller E chassis (and more sporty).

I mean, the CLA is still a Mercedes -- but, probably more of a re-branded Renault than a true MB.

Getting a maxed out Jetta today, with wireless carplay and charging, not to mention memory leather seats, adaptive cruise control, digital cockpit with Nav, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and all sorts of safety things I probably won’t use. For $27k. One ECU chip and one antisway bar later (under $700 combined) and good to go against many cars costing $20k more for those features, if available.

Suck it MB and BMW!

Jettas are great, so congrats on a nice purchase.

I'm not sure what any of the above has to do with this article, though. No Jettas have the feature described here.

Yeah no ****, going from CLS to CLA is asking for trouble.

please please please stop just sticking tablets on the dash. at least make an effort to intergrade it somehow
No need, looks good as it is.
But shame on Mercedes for not offering wireless CarPlay in all 2020 models.
Had to buy a carlinkit and that works even better than wired.

I thought the same before I got my Model Y last year…but don’t let that hold you back. The UI in a Tesla is so much better than CarPlay. CarPlay looks so cartoon-y and outdated compared to Tesla’s software IMO that now I hope it never comes to the vehicle (and knowing Elon, it probably never will). I switched from Apple Music to Spotify just to be able to use Tesla’s Spotify app and I haven’t missed it one bit. This is coming from someone who is heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem.
Since you have a Tesla, can it play music stored on an iPhone? Wired or wireless (Bluetooth)? Thanks!

A company that makes amazing complex mechanical devices for over a century unable to create a decent UX just shows you how difficult it is to create a decent one. They should higher Forstall.

Or just buy a Tesla... the 2012 Model S received dozens of the same free OTA updates that the 2021 vehicles did (granted, it didn't receive all the features... they can't magically give it new cameras and other sensors... but as much as possible, they keep all the vehicles running the same software. They're like Apple in that regard but to a greater extreme sense since the vehicles are expected to be in use for several decades, not ~5 years like an iPhone.)
Yes, but all the updates doesn't help you to get apple music in a Tesla (without an iPhone). Up to now, there is only Spotify and TuneIn. But I'm still hoping!

(on MR forums, various Beverly Hills plastic surgeons discuss pros and cons of various Mercedes classes, trim levels, etc)
I feel so out of touch with my decade old focus, lol. I read this as “MB decides Android Auto and CarPlay isn’t as lucrative as a data plan, so they **** out a bad version of a tablet ui and charge you for it.”

No sympathy.

It was TuneIn only from 2012-2019 - they only just added Spotify to the car ~2 years ago.

The next major update is supposed to be a complete rewrite of the UI. Tesla has been talking about having an App Store for 9 years, and they have an app SDK that they've given to a few developers (it's how the cars ended up with games like Beach Buggy Racing, Cuphead, and Polytopia on them - Tesla gave some third party game developers access to the app SDK). Musk said an official app store would be added once Tesla had sold 1M cars - he said developers wouldn't be interested until the userbase was at least that large. Tesla sold their 1Mth car about 13 months ago. So I expect the App Store to be part of this complete rewrite.

Musk has also mentioned they're working on adding more music and video streaming apps to the cars. So even if an app store doesn't come, that might.

Car Play and Android Auto might come with the update. Or maybe not.

The major update is being held up by FSD though... I'm guessing Tesla built the new UI with the expectation that users wouldn't need to be focused on driving anymore.

We'll probably see Thursday at Tesla's event. (Huh. It overlaps with WWDC. Maybe Apple has finally decided to play nice with Tesla - that could be interesting. Or maybe Tesla just intends to one-up Apple and crush whatever auto-related news Apple happens to have... I've noticed Musk does have a habit of just tweeting stuff to make Tesla dominate the news whenever another auto company ends up with too much publicity.)

MBUX is generally regarded as a very good system, and Mercedes still offers Android Auto and CarPlay. There is also no charge for this. Although there is a charge for the data itself, nothing stops you from using AA/CarPlay if that's what you want to do. For those who want to stay in the MBUX environment, however, this is a great addition.

I honestly don't understand why anyone is criticizing this. It's something that wasn't there before, that MB drivers can either use or not use as they see fit. As a BMW driver, I'd love to have this option, as I prefer the car's UI to that of CarPlay and Apple Music is the only thing that forces me back to CarPlay.

Sorry OT: But my car still have TuneIn (and Spotify in europe). But I read the same information about Apple Music and Tesla. There exist pictures from the new UI where you can also choose AM in a Tesla.

But at the end of the day; right now it's not possible and Elon tweets a lot which sounds hot but its more a middle warm. We will see :)

Yes, it's still there. I didn't mean to suggest it was taken away in 2019 - just in 2019 they pushed out an update adding in more music options (the big one being Spotify within North America.)

No, the A class is MB’s entry level car, or a Smart car if you want to get pedantic.

Contrary to popular belief the CLA is not a version of the C class but a coupé and shooting brake version of the A class.
