Well my top 100 list will be an odd mix of genres anyway so I will look at this and see if there is anything new or interesting - possibly anyway.

In before Taylor Swift fans lose their mind when she’s not revealed as number one on May 22nd.
More like, when she isn't the entire top ten.

And don't get me wrong, even if she couldn't sing a lick, she'd already be among the very best songwriters in history. But there are only a few entire albums I could listen to and TS ain't got one of em.

This gimmick is now a trope. I guess companies/orgs do this all the time because it works to get eyes but it is silly IMO.

At the turn of the millennium this was done for almost anything. IIRC MTV did one for the top music videos of all time, the winner being rightfully Jailhouse Rock outtake. And for recordings of the 20th century I think it Louis' What A Wonderful World.

Whatever Apple Music is selecting will likely not be as important as those two.

If it gets people talking directly or indirectly about Apple Music I think its a good marketing vehicle. For me personally, I was never a fan of greatest hits or albums lists. As the caption on my posts suggests, I am not very interested in majority opinion.

Best albums or best popular albums? Popularity isn't a measure of quality. Plus, WTF is "best"? So many factors. Especially when mixing genres. But it will still be interesting to review and hate on.

Any list of this kind that does not contain the names Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner and Brahms at least once is meaningless IMO. But I don´t have much hope.
This is fair, but did they actually release any 'albums'? I'm admittedly ignorant of what the music production process was in that period, so this is meant as a serious question. I assume they are limiting this list to music that was recorded and mass produced, onto a disc, for mass consumption, at the time?

They didn't, so I'm sure they'd be excluded from a "best albums" list. I agree that that music is among the best ever written, but even if it were included in a best albums list, how would you determine WHICH recording to include? Do you pick the recording done by the Berlin Philharmonic or the Chicago Symphony or...? Bit of a rabbit hole.

The problem is that musical taste is highly subjective of course but I suppose it will work for the mainstream people. From the about 700 albums I own, I expect less than 10 to be on this list.

Top Ten..

1. Something by Taylor Swift
2. Something by Drake
3. Something by Taylor Swift
4. Something by Drake
5. Something by Taylor Swift
6. Something by Drake
7. Something by Taylor Swift
8. Something by Drake
9. Something by Taylor Swift
10. Something by Drake
If Swift and Drake populate the top 10 this list will truly suck and music production is ready to be taken over by AI.

They should have a separate list with actual musicians, so Hotel California and the like will be properly respected. If that makes me a “boomer,” than glad to have lived with real music that gets crushed in iPad commercials. Representing personalities masquerading as “musicians” is what this current list will likely be about. Now get off my lawn!

Who are the experts? If it’s anything like Rolling Stone lists it’s going to be hot garbage. Let’s not forget their original 100 greatest singers list had John Lennon and Bob Dylan in the top 10 and only two women in the top 20 (Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner).

What about The ****ing Weeknd ? Apple sure loves its Weeknd.

I’m surprised Hotel California didn’t wind up higher. Then again, they’re taking into account all genres.
Which is why these lists are hot garbage. I know fitting artists into ‘genres’ is highly subjective but throwing all genres into the same pile and coming up with the 100 best is incredibly subjective too.

If they fail to include that guy in their top 100 they ain’t gangsta

Was Body Talk "best album" material? It was a good album but I wouldn't consider it great. I know lists like these are subjective but I was surprised to see Body Talk at 100

You forgot The Beatles and Nirvana. Guarantee one or both of those artists is in the top 10.

Not to sound like that guy, but if any rap, pop, or country album made after 1990 is on that list you know it’s nonsense. But I’m sure 90% of it will be garbage that’s popular because it’s forcibly played on the radio by that garbage company that also owns all radio.
