I don’t really care about the order of ranking, as long as the list has some great music. Ranking order is highly subjective and not worth losing mind. Hotel California is one of my favorites, hope California dreaming makes the list too.
Van Halen I would be in my top 10 but I’ll be surprised if it makes this list. Rumors would also be in my top 10. Since they have the Eagles on this list there is some hope Fleetwood Mac will be too.

Not to sound like that guy, but if any rap, pop, or country album made after 1990 is on that list you know it’s nonsense. But I’m sure 90% of it will be garbage that’s popular because it’s forcibly played on the radio by that garbage company that also owns all radio.
Don't worry, I'm sure that Miles and Coltrane will both be in the top ten.

They should have a separate list with actual musicians, so Hotel California and the like will be properly respected. If that makes me a “boomer,” than glad to have lived with real music that gets crushed in iPad commercials. Representing personalities masquerading as “musicians” is what this current list will likely be about. Now get off my lawn.
Interesting you mention Hotel California as Don Henley is currently being called out for not singing live at Eagles shows.

Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar

better be in there because it changed the face of music.
I'm not sure I understand the basis for that comment. You could maybe make that argument for other Goth/Industrial artists like Siouxsie or Trent Reznor but I can't see that Marilyn Manson had any lasting impact.

Right, because nothing good has come out in the last 3+ decades. 🙄

And this is from someone whose music collection consists of probably 80% of music from 1990 and earlier.

quite a diverse mix here, interested to see what the rest of the list looks like. excited as well to see all the hate over something that’s ultimately subjective 😂

Are they correcting for population? Selling 10 million albums in 1964 (US population 191 million) is a much bigger deal than selling 10 million in 2024 (US population 341 million). If they are going just by sales, then

1. Something by Taylor Swift
2. Something by Drake
3. Something by Taylor Swift
4. Something by Drake
...

will turn out to be correct. (thanks Mrkevinfinnerty)

I don't think that anything that is less than ten years old has had time to be properly digested by the culture. I may even extend that threshold to twenty years. Anything older than that you might be able to be objective about.

I love these lists as they are fun to see what others think. I like when they also explain their pics, what made that album different from the others.

Genuine Question - why have you all abandoned CD's or digital purchases for streaming? In the long term owning the music works out way cheaper plus you don't have issues with rights or missing tracks on certain albums.

Kasey would be rolling in his grave over these.
Oh and I buy no streaming stuff, hard copy only records, tapes, cd or dvd or bluray. Period.

My Top 5:

#5: Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
#4: Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
#3: Dream Theater - Octavarium
#2: TesseracT - Altered States
#1: Frederic Chopin - 24 Preludes, Opus 28

I didn't realise Chopin had recorded that album

Sure, maybe you’re generally right about the ten year mark. At the same time, it wouldn’t be at all out of place to see something like Swift’s 1989 to make the list. It’s not like any list like this is definitive for all of time either. This list represents what the folks making it at this point in time thought the best 100 albums were. In any case, this is a far cry from saying nothing since 1990 should be on the list, which is of course asinine. I guess no Nirvana or Green Day. No Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, or Alan Jackson. No Eminem. There are a good number of artists that have released all or most of their music since 1990 that should and will be on this list.
