I'm confused here.. Does this new service mean I can stop my iTunes Match subscription? I can't see any point in keeping both, and the streaming option, while more costly does have advantages, particularly if I can store playlists locally for those times where I can't get online, and if I can share with my wife.

Can anyone confirm is my interpretation correct?

I would have to respectfully disagree. While it's true that Apple would prefer people buy their devices, as long as they are making money ($9.99/month) I don't see any reason why the Android version wouldn't offer the same features as the iOS version. I can see where their might be tighter integration with other parts of iOS or Apple-created apps but for the rest it should be the same.

You may be right. But I think this will be their first real android app they are making and it may take a few updates to get all the features in there.

..... But I plan on getting word from Apple on how users will be transitioning from Match to Apple Music.

Yeah, there's not been much on that yet has there? I know it only launches today but putting info out there about how to switch (will your currently matched music just transition over for example) well in advance can't have hurt I wouldn't have thought.

Are you sure? Can you show me where it says you can download and own an upgraded copy of your music? It does say you will be able to stream from Apple. But when you stop subscribing, will you have upgraded copies of your old music that you own? Please show me where it says that. Apple called iTunes Match a "complimentary" service to AppleMusic. They didn't in any way say AppleMusic replaces Match. I may be mistaken, but please show me that I am and don't just tell me I'm wrong.

No. The matched songs will be DRMed. You can't listen to it when you cancel subscription. It will be upgraded to 256 kbps AAC though (if yours have less quality than that).

"With an Apple Music membership, your entire library lives in iCloud. We compare every track in your collection to the Apple Music library to see if we have a copy. If we do, you can automatically listen to it straight from the cloud. If you have music that’s not in our catalog, we upload those songs from iTunes on your Mac or PC. It’s all in iCloud, so it won’t take up any space on your devices"

It's on the apple music page. iTunes match is built into Apple Music.

How does Apple Music know what songs are in my personal library?

That is MOST of what Match is, but not ALL of it. It puts your music in the cloud, yes. But it doesn't allow you to download and OWN upgraded copies of old music. It doesn't allow you to do what's detailed here...

http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-use-itunes-match-to-upgrade-audio-quality/

If you have already done this, and you don't add any more low quality copies of music to your library, then Match becomes irrelevant. But if you continue to add music from sketchy sources you won't automatically get access to owning higher quality tracks.

Yeah I think for the most part there will be feature parity. If there is something Apple thinks will get people to switch to iPhone then I can see that being left out. And Apple Music has Siri integration. Will the Android version have something similar?

iTunes match will copy and keep secure music that is not currently available in Apple Music Library, things like white labels and mixes that are not available in iTunes. Im not sure I would risk not having iTunes match for a few months...

AppleMusic WILL do that part of iTunes Match

Dude really? Please get your facts before posting. So far you have been 100% incorrect. iOS 8.4 comes out at 8am and Apple music at 9am to answer the op of that question.
Are you serious right now? Apple Music is live at this moment in several countries. Beats1 launches at 9 PT, not Apple Music. So please get your facts before calling me out.

I've been using Match as a way to not have my music occupying disk space.

I have 13k tracks uploaded, I would have to download all those tracks if I want to be safe. But I plan on getting word from Apple on how users will be transitioning from Match to Apple Music.

There is no conversion from Match to AM.

Can someone please report on the stream quality when they start the trial (ie. Low 128kbps, High 256kbps, Extreme 320kbps0? I think that is spotify's settings. Hoping apple will be comparable.

One question I have is this. If one can stream any and all songs from the iTunes Store would it be likely that there would be a decrease in people buying and downloading songs either individually or by album as has been the case until now since the iTunes Store was launched? And if that is the case would Apple eventually faze out the ability to download tracks or album and simply have the streaming service only?

Doubtful.

Apple Music will upload any tracks that's not available in iTunes. It's exactly like iTunes Match.

Apple Music provides a more complete experience compared to iTunes Match, yet I do believe iTunes Match should be free. Given that Google provides the same service... But then Google does that to to gather information from users.

Download if you need to first.

AM is restricted to streaming to 1 device per ID. FS is the solution. Otherwise you'll need to offline everything you wish to share.
