If only you could find and buy a PS5.
If you haven't been able to get a PS5 yet then you're just lazy and not trying hard enough. In the last year I've been able to obtain 9 PS5's for myself, all my family members who wanted them, and some friends.

Complaining about not being able to get a PS5 is just old and shows how lazy you are. If it were a priority to you (which I assume it's not), you'd have one for retail price right now.

This is awful. It doesn’t show you all your playlists and provides no way to control playback or make selections via your phone. Sptofy is light years better. This is basically just for people who want to run AM full screen on their console…for some reason.

Lets hope Apple will be as aggressive about being everywhere as Spotify is. That's their only way to make inroads against Spotify. The only condition in which I'm leaving Spotify is if I can seamlessly throw music to any device in my house, like Spotify can while enabling the level of remote control Spotify does.

The most important thing in the Spotify product is how brilliantly its been engineered. They've taken a function over form approach and my entire family loves using it. I'd love to leave Spotify, but Apple does not have the functionality Spotify has and Airplay is not the answer.

There's something that Airplay does that is just too close to the system level. I cannot stand using it because I have no idea what I do on my phone will disrupt the playback on where the media is being played. The system volume controls are hijacked and I can't stand how when I use airplay for lets say, Disney+... I can't continue to use my device for anything else. I can't just toss a movie on my TV for the kids and go back to work with my phone.

Spotify lets you just pick a device signed into Spotify and leave it at that. There's none of this messy intermingling of my phone trying to figure out what I'm trying to control.

If Apple wants my business they need to figure out Airplay or do cloud based client session control like Spotify, and it needs to be available everywhere.
Using control center you can play music on Apple TV or other devices without using air play.

But do you really listen to music on your PS5? I guess it depends on your speaker situation. I have a typical sound bar and woofer from Samsung. Not bad, but I have better ways to listen to music and I assume most people do as well. Now, for Podcasts it would be fine.
You’re right, I also don’t typically listen to Apple Music on my TV (and if I did, it would be through the Apple TV app anyway).

The appealing thing for me is how it works with games. When I have tried it with Spotify on PS4, once you start playing Spotify music it becomes the background music in the games you play, with the original game soundtrack dropping out while sound effects and dialogue remain. Pretty cool feature for some games to be able to chill and play with your own music.

I may only try this a couple of times and forget about it ?. But I do have friends who play grindy games where they enjoy listening to their own music while playing.

Let me output the PS5 sound to HomePods and I'm made up
You can do that now if you have the latest AppleTV, and a TV with eARC built into one of it's HDMI ports. On the new AppleTV you have to enable it and be plugged into the eARC HDMI port on your TV, and you can then set the default audio out for your TV in the AppleTV audio settings, and everything connected plays through your Hompepods. It's phenomenal. It's the sole reason I went out and bought the new AppleTV. It works flawlessly with the stereo pair of HomePods in my living room.

The unfortunate part with all these 3rd party app access, no Dolby Atmos and/or Lossless support. I'm addicted to hearing Atmos now.
I use the Apple Music app on my Sony Xperia 1 III a lot. It shows me the Lossless or Dolby Atmos icon on the songs.

The only devices that show a seperate control card are ATVs and Homepods. All other airplay speakers/tvs/etc. are just targets not players that support their own queue, etc.

This was one of the reasons why I didn't use Apple Music... Now I'm tempted to switch to Apple Music now that its available on PS5 hehe

True. Only Sonos can play Apple Music on their own... but you need to use the Sonos app for that.

Oh and to all those wanting a PS5? And it IS the same with the Xbox Series X, Microsoft don't expect the shortages to improve till 2023, and neither do Sony because the global shortage of chips is so extreme. You have to remember Microsoft And Sony are competing with literally everything else which has a micro chip in it. They've all got to he made in the fabrication plants.
It's amazing Apple managed as well as it has, they must have paid some serious cash to secure their orders.

Wait---you can play the streaming services in the background? Lol, I had no idea and feel stupid now. I'd much rather have that in the background than some of the play by play announcers in sports games.

Bad news - neither the ps5 or Xbox series X support Bluetooth audio.

Somewhat good news - you can use the 3.5mm to Lightning cable for the AirPods Max. Connect the 3.5mm end to your ps5 controller, and it even supports Sony’s 3D audio.
I have the PS5 headset though---the one made by Sony. Is Sony using a special sauce for that, like a mix of BT and proprietary?

Not everyone is in the USA or Japan. Try to find a PS5 outside of those countries. I’m in Taiwan. Sony release PS5 online once a month. They are sold out instantly once released. I was told by a Sony rep they get a few 100 each month. That is all the supply they get.
