I want to like AM, but the recommendation algorithm just is not as good as Spotify's. And that's not to say that Spotify's is any good anymore, but it's still slightly better than AM's.

Maybe when Apple adds an "Angry" playlist I'll reconsider.

When I’m home relaxing, I’ll sometimes listen to generic jazz playlists. Ive always liked the (your name) Station, but lately it’s been throwing jazz songs in there along with other genres. Again, that’s recent, so I’d always assumed AM sort of understood that I don’t have liked or favorite individual jazz songs, because I’ve never hit like on one or put one on a playlist but, guess I was wrong.

That aside, I generally like AM, I’ve gotten plenty of good stuff from Discovery. I used to use Spotify but we do Apple One. Doesn’t feel like I lost anything.

Apple Music have never given me a single recommendations that wasn't utter garbage and the complete opposite of what I was listening to. If I use Spotify I find new music to listen to but when I use Apple Music that never happens.

If I make a playlist and listen to it they shouldn't require me to liking songs or having much past interaction to be able to play something relevant, just play something based on what I was just listening to. But no, Apple Music would play me something like K-Pop after listening to my "best of 70s/80s list"...

But then again Apple seem to be terrible with algorithms in general, Siri have always been unusable, Apple Maps is terrible and the list goes on.
I’ve had good recommendations from Spotify but equally good and better ones from Apple Music. I used both for a while and switched full time to Apple Music because it did so well with music discovery. And I have really eclectic tastes. I think that was too much for Spotify to handle. Apple Music has done well with my wide ranging tastes in music though.

When I’m in the music discovery mode I find new songs I enjoy almost daily on Apple Music. That wasn’t the case with Spotify.

I tried the relax one and it did relax me a little.

It's better than the relax playlist because it goes on forever instead of just updating once a week.

I do hope Apple will add useful AI features for personalized playlists, among other things.

For example: "Siri, play relaxing songs with lyrics in English and Japanese with no heavy bass."

And Siri will know what I personally mean by relaxing and also avoid artists that I don't like.

Isn't it interesting how we "lean into" feeling down with regard to music. I actually thought I was weird for doing this. Apparently it's common...

Tim Cook is really obsessed with Apple Music opening people to new music. I wish it had much less emphasis on that and just made the things I already know I want to listen to easier to find.
Exactly I find it absolutely cluttered and a complete eyesore. I never know where to look for things. It’s just pages and pages of scrolling of playlists. It needs some serious steam lining or customisation

Thanks but no thanks. I pick the music I want to hear based on other criteria.

How do you discover new songs if you only ever pick songs that you know? 🤔

These are great new discovery opportunities. Listening to the "Feel Good" category at the moment, and already heard several new songs that fit my preferences nicely. 🤗

I would like this pretty well, IF it applied those moods to my existing library of songs.

I like everything in my library, if Apple could filter my songs by those moods and start playing the ones that fit a mood I choose, that would be great. Much better than trying to give me all new songs that fit the mood but are "personalized" according to my listening history. That will be hit or miss.

I should add that music discovery works well for me with AM. There are multiple playlists I check out when they're updated weekly, and I've found a lot of stuff I like. But for the moods thing, I'd really like it to feed me a selection of music from all the tracks I've already curated for myself.

Yes. People are often told to "just cheer up" or suppress their negative emotions. Having music that seems to understand how you feel can be validating, and help you honestly recover.

Will never use there suggested music it never works for me lol , I got my bands I save them into playlist, almost 98% of the time the music Apple suggest to me is literally not what I listen to at all lol

Good step into the right direction.

One thing that's sorely needed is genre-specific discovery playlists.
I discovered some amazing music with the apty named playlisti, but it mixes pretty much all the genres into one big playlist.
I'd like to be more specific, like when I want to discover rock, electro, throwback music and so on.

I have friends. I listen to Pandora. I have a SiriusXM account. I have Amazon Prime Music. My question for you is, why do you believe an algorithm knows what you should listen to?

It doesn't "know" but based on the information it has, it ought to be able to make a better-than-random guess. I understood that it is just supposed to start playing something after what you choose is over, and if you don't like it, just skip.

Good points being made. Spotify and AM both need teaching and it takes time. If the user is reluctant to engage that way, they’re bound to be unsatisfied. The algos do not read minds yet.
