Apple is offering an extended three-month free Apple Music trial for new users over the summer, provided they haven't been a subscriber to the streaming service before.

apple-music.jpg

‌Apple Music‌ typically offers a one-month free trial for new subscribers since it was shortened from three months in 2022, so this deal is worth grabbing if you are curious about the service.

Note that this offer is for new subscribers only. If you are not currently a subscriber to Apple Music, and you have never previously subscribed to Apple Music or Apple One, or had access to Apple Music through a Family plan, you are eligible for this offer.

Engadget spotted the offer, which is running until September 23. After the trial ends, the service will automatically renew for $11 per month, so it's a good idea to set a reminder in case you don't want to continue paying for access.

To redeem the offer, open the Apple Music app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac and sign in with your Apple ID. If the offer doesn't appear immediately after launching the app, go to the Home tab where it will appear, then tap Accept Now.

They’re also offering a “3 months for the price of 1” deal to returning subscribers. Not as nice as a free 3 months but a good deal nonetheless! It popped up on the “home” tab in the Apple Music app.

Not always eligible for this type of deal due to the number of times I’ve gotten a re-subscription deal, so noteworthy that they appear to be including most previous subscribers in this associated deal.

I listen to my library (8K songs all AAC encoded) -- do not stream. Since iTunes went away, have finally started looking for a replacement as AM keeps getting worse and worse re: UI and more. Demo'ed Swinsian and will buy it once the new version (3) releases. Shareholders are happy, but those with extensive personal music libraries... not so much.

Shazam also offer Apple Music trials pretty much permanently. Depending on one’s previous AM subscription history, we can get 1-3 month free trials.

I'm in the same boat, refuse to stream/rent my music. I do still have the Music Match service I pay $25/yr for which is useful in just keeping things synced across all my devices easily. I have thousands of CDs I ripped with a huge music catalog I've had for decades now. I honestly wish Apple would bring back a great classic iPod, I recently bought a new/upgraded iPod classic on ebay with a 512GB ssd and new long lasting battery and it's glorious, and I can still sync it with the itunes/music app on my mac.

I have considered using new music apps for my large collection, however I have so much time invested into the playlists, smart lists, ratings and organizing within the existing apple music app I really don't want to have to recreate all that. Does Swinsian import everything from the current app, is it an easy transition?

Any reason you don't keep using iTunes via Retroactive?

That's what I do -- works wonderfully, even for syncing with my iPhones and iPods

It's what I do too, but we both know it will some day come to an end. Clinging on to beloved programs from days past is not all what it's cracked up to be. Retroactive enabled Aperture stopped working not long ago, stopped reading raw files way before that.

I hear you but not sure the Aperture comparison is super apt as the RAW compatibility thing has always been a sticky wicket for Photo apps. Music apps and files have no real analogue to that.

For me, I use what works ... I'll worry about it not working when that's actually the reality

I mean ... everything needs to be replaced at some point.
Why worry about it now? Just enjoy iTunes! :)

I use iBroadcast, it has been brilliant for me. I got fed up with some of my perhaps more obscure songs disappearing from my Spotify playlists without notice. Presumably a rights thing. Worst was when a whole album for Tinnitus sounds vanished, I have yet to find one anywhere near as good since.

I did at one stage have a trial after a hardware purchase, cancelled just prior to its expiration. I'm guessing this counts as a subscription and disqualifies me from this offer?

Can you elaborate on this? How do you get the free trials?

You can open Shazam app, scroll up from the bottom to see your recent Shazams, click on the gear icon in the top-left corner and, if you are not already subscribed to Apple Music, it should offer you a free trial, right there at the top.
