I listen to my library (8K songs all AAC encoded) -- do not stream. Since iTunes went away, have finally started looking for a replacement as AM keeps getting worse and worse re: UI and more. Demo'ed Swinsian and will buy it once the new version (3) releases. Shareholders are happy, but those with extensive personal music libraries... not so much.
Doppler is also very good (but might lack a few features Swinsian has). That said, has Swinsian 3 been teased yet?

Tbh I have not paid for TV+, AM or Arcade in years because there is always some trial somewhere. I just keep making new Apple IDs each time I used up the limit of how many times as you can on an Account to use the 4 months vouchers we get here

Excluding past users implies nothing has changed in Apple Music over the years to convince anyone to be a returning customer.

Not really. Excluding past users from free trial promotions is the norm in the subscription market for a variety of reasons including trying to cut down on customers signing up for free trials over and over again.

If you own a PS5, you can get 6 months free for new subscribers and 5 months for returning.

Um….

(1) This is a limited time offer. How is someone signing up for the offer, allowing it to expire after three months, then renewing? Kinda impossible.

(2) Just as code can exclude a past customer, it can just as easily exclude a customer who has already taken advantage of a trial.

I received six (I think) months free of Apple Music when I got my Air Pods Pro2. However, I never knew I got the free service - unsure if I missed an email or an alert, but I had no idea until I got a message of "your trial expires next week, we'll charge you $xx/mo now".

I had no idea and never used it. My bad, their bad, dunno? But I would have given it an honest look had I known.

Nah

Thx though Tim

Have done several of your AM trials and I find the product still pretty lacking honestly
I'd never pay for it

I actually find value in YouTubeMusic though ... but I only get that from my YT Premium sub.
I wouldn't pay for YTM on its own
Yeah AM's discovery is absolute junk. They promised personalized human curation, but I think what that was code for is "we'll push anyone into your feeds as long as their record companies paying us enough."

Irrelevant, junky suggestions from AM. Honestly I have gotten more and better suggestions from instagram reels than I ever did with AM.

Meanwhile, I agree the recommendation engine for YTM is pretty good.

That Taylor swift fake controversy stunt they did at launch, was cringe AF too.

Can anyone confirm this...? I currently have over 1,000 songs I purchased from iTunes over the past 10 years. I remember a thread in the past where if you join AM then leave AM somehow the songs you purchased are removed? Is this true?

I would like to join AM but weary of this...

No.Your purchases are not affected

Apple is offering an extended three-month free Apple Music trial for new users over the summer, provided they haven't been a subscriber to the streaming service before.

Note that this offer is for new subscribers only. If you are not currently a subscriber to Apple Music, and you have never previously subscribed to Apple Music or Apple One, or had access to Apple Music through a Family plan, you are eligible for this offer.
Whats this “provided they haven’t been a subscriber to the streaming service before” line?

All the times previously if you stopped being a subscriber you can go back later and use an another free Apple Music deal and it works. Example best buy offers free 3 month offer for members.

Does Apple music use the Music app? Because I freaking hate the Music app. Doesn't recognize flac, and when you want to add new music you have to put it in a specific folder and then it organizes the music the way it wants. There were other annoyances but those two were enough for me

They’re also offering a “3 months for the price of 1” deal to returning subscribers. Not as nice as a free 3 months but a good deal nonetheless! It popped up on the “home” tab in the Apple Music app.

Not always eligible for this type of deal due to the number of times I’ve gotten a re-subscription deal, so noteworthy that they appear to be including most previous subscribers in this associated deal.
Can you send link to that?

It's not about signing up for this specific offer over and over again but other ongoing or limited time free trial promotional offers that may exist or come along over and over again.

(2) Just as code can exclude a past customer, it can just as easily exclude a customer who has already taken advantage of a trial.

It can be easier to manage customer usage to exclude all past customers (trial customers, regular subscribers, etc.) than limit to just past trial customers. It also allows companies to better streamline and target their marketing efforts. Sometimes past customers get special "we miss you, please come back" offers instead.

As I said, free trial offers excluding past customers is the norm in the subscription market and does not necessarily imply anything about how little has changed with the product.

The last part is curable. Go to Music settings, files, and uncheck the Keep Music media Folder organized.

Otherwise Music (or iTunes) will make a complete mess out of everything. You get a folder for Linda Ronstadt, and seperate folders for Linda Ronstadt and every person she ever did a duet with.

Excluding past customers certainly does imply the company feels the offer would be unconvincing. It can even imply the company does not want old customers to become new ones. That’s could be seen as even worse. I understand you don’t like it worded that way but spin is spin.

Regarding your claim that excluding past customers is an industry norm. There are heaps of examples where trial offers do not exclude former customers. I don’t think you’re qualified to speak for the entire ‘trial offer’ industry? 😆

Anyone that actually uses Apple Music, do you notice high latency or long wait times for a song to start? I have YT Music as well and don't see that issue on that app. It's like Apple has traffic shaped Apple Music to have the lowest priority for bandwidth.

It does not imply any that but you are more than welcome to your unusual interpretation.

Excluding previous customers from free trial subscription offers is much more common, hence why I called it the norm in the product subscription industry.

Apple needs to provide a way to opt out of their annoying subscription advertisements. The owners of the platform shouldn't be allowed to use that monopoly to constantly nag users about additional add-on services. Why are governments only concerned when Google and Microsoft do this?

Every time I buy a new device through AAPL, I get a 3-month Promo.

I don't (or ever intend to) use such a thing, so the reminders are--basically--annoying.

Seems like an exciting thing, but I just have no use for it.
