Unless you are into hip hop Apple music is useless. Spotify suggestions, search, user-created playlists, is miles ahead of Apple music. Apple playlists get updated at most a few times a year and are generic AF. Like many other people hear I dont know one person who uses Apple music its all spotify. Spotify is just better.

Oh sir, please enlighten us which ways Spotify is better?

Besides “because I said so”.

Spotify is crap until it:

1. Allows me to upload my own music and stream my own files
2. Lyrics
3. Vídeos
4. Human made concise playlists, not 500-plus playlists that are basically a google search
5. Decent navigation, without tiny buttons
6. iPad interface
7. Apple Watch interface
8. A tried and true desktop interface
9. Voice controls, not asking Siri because it’s impossible for them, but any speech recognition, e.g. YouTube has speech recognition, why a paid service can’t pay any cloud service for speech recognition
10. Most of all, Apple Music has more music in it.

Apart from points 7 and 9 (both completely irrelevant for me) you are just talking nonsense, Sir.
In any case, enjoy the tool you like best, whilst trying a bit harder not to find inane reasons as to why a lot of people worldwide shouldn’t prefer a different tool.

Both are great products but in terms of searching for music, Spotify has trumps. In terms of audio quality....Apple is on top.

Most people that complain about Spotify audio quality have no idea that once you become a paying subscriber you can change the quality to CD equivalent level. (You actually have to go into the settings to do this)
I assume you knew this and still believe that the quality is not good enough... how much I would love to do a blind test to prove you right.

Jeez, some of you people need to lay off the Apple kool-aid, and this is coming from someone deeply vested in the Apple ecosystem.

More like

World = Piracy

How is using Spotify or WhatsApp piracy?

That was always BS, it was a paid hit by the crap competitor.

Guess what? People are more interested in real people impressions than on crappy bloggers.

iTunes Match or whatever it was called did a number with a few of my live albums when I tried Apple Music, it definitely wasn’t a “paid hit”. Not every criticism of Apple’s services are paid opposition.

Oh you mean like Google has over the Android phones they sell. So that makes them a monopoly because they put YouTube on all their devices. Ahhh.. LOL
Apple blocked a Spotify update because they claimed that by requiring people buy subscriptions through the Spotify website and not giving Apple 30% that they were violating App Store TOCs. How that doesn’t violate Microsoft Corp. v U.S. Government, I don’t know.

Whether or not Google does it does not concern me. It can be true for both. However, Google pre-loading YouTube on their devices is in no way equivalent.

Zune was ahead of it's time in terms of software. That's why I did not own an iPod. The all you can eat model was a good deal for 15 bucks a month. It launched way back in 2006. If the software had more time to mature, it could have really been something great.I used my 80GB with a subscription until I got an iPhone and switched to Spotify. Now I use Apple Music.

You want simplicity?

Too soon, brother. I'm still hurting over the demise of Zune. I had the original 30GB, it broke and went to the iPod Nano (the ol' fat one). I realized quickly that the Zune 80 was best and went with that. I loved that software and hardware. It had so many great features and really was the only competition to the iPod. It had such a community vibe to it..."welcome to the social". It was ahead of its time and Microsoft failed to market it well. I still have my 80GB, although it's in pieces because it needs a new battery. I really should get on that.

I switched to Spotify as Apple don't support Siri on Sonos. I think they will lose a lot of customers for the same reason.

Spotify was better for my genre of music (Trance/Dance) , but i cancelled both Apple Music and Spotify, got all the music i like on CD for next to nothing used on eBay, ripped it into iTunes, and pay for iTunes Match. My music is now on my Macs, iPads, Apple TV and iPhone and no monthly subscriptions. Just a small fee once a year. I can also burn my music to CD too for some of my older cars.

It is so easy to find CD's for cheap. Rip the in lossless, or high quality and use iTunes Match. Streaming is not the end all - be all of music people.

I love Apple. Been an Apple fan since before it was “cool”. Before the iphone, ipad, imac & ipod. Back in the 90s when there were no Apple Stores, just small sections in the back of stores like the now bancrupt Comp USA. When store clerks used to laugh when you asked where the Mac section was. Anyway...i love Apple. However...i hate their music service. I like Spotify & Pandora much better. I use Spotify when i want to listen to a specific artist or song, and Pandora when i want to just randomly listen to a genre of music. Sorry Apple. This is one area where you need major improvement.

I call B.S. I’ve never met an actual person in the real world who uses Apple Music instead of Spotify.

Spotify has a great iPad interface.

Spotify is also widely known to have the most complete music library.

And, once again, I call B.S. I’ve never met an actual person in the real world who uses Apple Music instead of Spotify.
Oh......here come all the “because I don’t see it means it doesn’t exist” arguments. I can counter that with more people I know use Apple Music. It’s a silly argument.

The iPad interface on Spotify does not support split screen so that alone makes it garbage. Also no Siri support.

He edited his post to include them. And you prefer to pay and have no options rather than a free advertising tier AND a paid tier? Weird choice but whatever flows your boat.
Well, I am not sure how sustainable Spotify's model is in the long run - plus I think Apple pays musicians more so that is a plus at least.

Nice to meet you. My family is on AM. So there's 6 real world people.

Steve said people want to own their own music, not rent it. I agree with Steve.

Steve said that years ago. The times have changed and for the most part people don't give a crap about ownership of anything. Convenience always beats out quality.

The problem now (and this is partly due to the iTunes digital store and it's former popularity) is that music has lost a lot of it's value. Not that people don't enjoy music, but rather the relationship between the listeners and their music has been degraded. People used to buy whole albums and listen to it as a whole. Beginning to end. You couldn't skip a track on vinyl. CD's enabled you to skip to your favorite tracks, and then with iTunes you could now just buy the tracks you wanted. When looking through someones library you do not see an artists discography, but just their hits. Spotify took this and ran with it, making the hits into playlists. It's the new album. The playlist though does not have songs that tie into each other, there is no story or theme being presented, so most of the songs are just fluff. When the fluff song becomes old, people move on. It devalues music.

When music is devalued, there is no reason to own. Just stream. If you are like me and find music that still tells a story, or presents a theme, you will buy the music.

I am the same way. I have tried Apple Music twice. I keep going back to Spotify. It's just superior. I really want to like Apple Music but a lot of songs are missing and the playlists are terrible.

I've tried Apple Music three times and every time I come back to Spotify. I feel like I can't find any good playlists or new music. Spotify is just much better in my experience for its' UI and ability to find new music through playlists people have made for each genre. Being able to 'go to radio' on a song is great too.

In my circle of co-workers, friends and family, I don't know of anyone that actually has a paid Spotify subscription, but I know most of them do have Apple Music. This is not to say they don't sometimes listen to the free version of Spotify. So all this nonsense about I don't know anyone that has Apple Music. Yeah Right!

One thing Apple doesn't make up is how much profit they make, one thing Spotify can't make is profit. IPO is the only thing that has saved them. Amazing with all those supposed subscribers they still can't turn a profit.
You can’t make a profit when most of your users are using the FREE TIER. That means Spotify is paying out royalties to artists and trying to make it up with ads. Apple Music actually pays artists more per stream too which give Apple an advantage.

FREE has never been a sustainable business model. Spotify knows this so all you happy users can expect price increases and lots of other money making schemes from them as they go public. They have loads of users that pay nothing so they’ll have to find a way to get them to pay. I think they’ll try to do a smart speaker or something.

No thanks albums were 10 bucks a piece, I rather rent music because I rarely listen to same music twice and I can do unlimited for 10 bucks or even 5 bucks if you area student. Glad it gives people an option to buy music but it’s way to expensive to buy a single album

Off Topic:

Is there a way to do that when listening on HomePod, aside from saying "Hey Siri, I like this song."? One thing that annoys me about HomePod is there is no interface whatsoever on my phone. Sometimes I'd just prefer to interface that way or see a "Now Playing" sort of display.
Yes.. open up your 'now playing' card in the Music appl. Tap that little arrow with the circles at the bottom-middle of the screen. Your various Airplay destinations should pop up (iPhone, homepod, apple TV, whatever). Tap on the HomePod bubble, and then your 'now playing' screen is your HomePod! You just scroll down to see what's up next. Hope that makes sense.

I use both services and have done so for the past year. Here's what I've found:
  • Apple Music has better quality music I feel. It just sounds less compressed and has more detail.
  • It lacks a lot of big genres. I love Latin music (my Latino half calls for it), and I struggle to find playlists around this. On Spotify there is just mountains of the stuff.
  • Music variety is better on Spotify but Apple Music has some great deals with the mainstream. I love House and they have some great stuff from Ministry of Sound and other big labels.
  • The playlists on Spotify are just better. Period. The social element is far superior in this aspect and finding fresh music online is just so much easier. Having said that I use SongShift to keep my playlists in sync so I can enjoy better quality audio in Apple Music.
  • Apple Music integrates way better in my car than Spotify. (I own a BMW with ConnectedDrive and while it has Spotify integration, the Apple Music controls just work better. Weirdly I can't skip tracks on Spotify on my steering wheel, but I can with Apple Music).
Both are great products but in terms of searching for music, Spotify has trumps. In terms of audio quality....Apple is on top.
Something must be wrong with you BMW. There is a dedicated Spotify app for both my old 3 series F30 and my new 5 series. Have you downloaded the app or are you just selecting the iPhone as a usb device?
Skipping tracks from the steering wheel was no problem with both of these cars.
