Wow! One step forward. Native Apple’s CarPlay to Tesla’s vehicle next? I think I remember asking about this request a month ago. Still waiting... 🤨

Not going to happen. Vehicle manufacturers want full control of the in-car experience to monetize it in the future. Location-based ads, app and game stores, movie & music purchases, etc. They aren't going to cede that control to Apple or Google. It's used now because most cars aren't 24/7 connected like Tesla and Rivian. You'll slowly see it stop being supported by legacy manufacturers in favor of first-party systems.

And this was being developed way before the Twitter stuff. One has zero to do with the other.

So what you're saying is that you're not buying a car any more, you're buying a subsidised crappy Android tablet that someone stuck seats and wheels to?

If they'd only give us Podcasts....
I created a whole workflow to download Podcasts from YouTube and I copy them to a USB thumb drive. I thought that was a big brain move but Tesla's built-in media player sucks so bad it doesn't even go back to USB media playback, it just assumes you want to stream. It has no +-30 skip, it doesn't remember location and they took away timestamps from playback.

The whole streaming system is so second rate and they just keep telling us about new games.

Miles better than the sentry mode though.

Musk was using it as a bargaining chip for Twitter ads.
If that is true, Elon Musk could get himself into serious trouble, because that would mean that he uses his power as CEO of Tesla, which is a publicly traded company, to negotiate an advantage for Twitter, which is his private company. I know he sees all of those companies as his own empire, but he owns only 20% or so of Tesla and the rest is owned by other shareholders. He technically only is a Tesla employee, and could be charged for embezzlement, if he acts in his own interest.

I don’t have a Tesla, but just out of curiosity, rather than paying for premium connectivity, can you just hotspot your phone? Or is that not a thing in Tesla’s?
This is why lack of Carplay and Teslas in general are a Joke. Any other car can stream music and use the infotainment system linked to your phone. Telsa wants you to pay for what you already have in your hand right now and a cellular plan. They want you to use their own tablet with cellular to play in their "walled garden" (sounds familiar).

They are solving for something that's not a problem. Already have my phone, cellualr plan, and apps/app-subscriptions. Just need the car to interface with it. I do not need another tablet with another cellular plan and appstore which is basically what a Tesla infotainment system is.

Yes you can bluetooth and buy a mount for your phone that you hope its good enough not to get a ticket. Alternatively, just go with a car company that leverages what you already pay for and lets your use the apps you already have.

I plug my phone into my Hyundai and guess what right on the car screen I can use Amazon Music or my personal Plex library. Wow. I don't have to pay Hyundai? Amazing. Like I said Tesla talks a pretty big game considering they are 1000x worse than Apple in my book. Paying an insane amount of money for a car that forces you to pay monthly to use things sitting in your pocket already being paid for. There is zero technical reason for it. We have seen third parties implement it. They want the same money they call out Apple for taking.

Literally why other car manufactures bailed on custom infotainment systems and just added carplay/android auto. Customers don't want to buy what they already have.

Don't have this update yet but very stoked. Personally I don't care about having native CarPlay. Nothing against it but I'm mostly satisfied with the native Tesla software. I know some don't feel that way but having Apple Music be supported like Tidal and Spotify is okay by me.

As much as Tesla's ahead of everyone else in the car industry, not having Apple Music, CarPlay and Android Auto kinda feels backwards, no matter how good and technological the interface is.

Carplay in its current iteration is not that groundbreaking... It's just your iphone interface blown up on the car's display with limited apps.... I would understand this claim if Carplay had other functionality that controlled the car like climate control, locks, windows, etc.... But it doesn't do any of that so I don't see what the huge deal is as people make it out to be..... The next iteration of carplay that Apple demoed looks a lot more promising because it actually integrates with the car and shows real time driving data, and lets you control things. but as it stands currently the Tesla interface is far superior and if I have to stream a podcast or do something silly like that I can just bluetooth to my phone.

Car manufacturer Tesla today rolled out a holiday software update that introduces support for Apple Music. According to reports on Twitter, the 2022.44.25 update allows Tesla owners to access their Apple Music accounts directly in their cars.

There were hints that Apple Music support was imminent when a Tesla exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles featured a vehicle with an Apple Music app installed.

Apple Music integration has been a feature long desired by Tesla owners, and Apple Music subscribers who want access can install the latest software to get it.

Yes you can use hotspot on your phone and the car will automatically connect to it as its connection. So you don't need premium connectivity if you can use hotspot on your phone.

Premium does add the ability to check the sentry mode cameras from anywhere when away from the car.

You do know you can use use hotspot on your phone and the car will automatically connect to it as its mobile connection in place of premium connectivity right?

Other car makers went to CarPlay and Android Auto because they suck at making infotainment systems. Just look at ford and the one in the Mustang Mach E as a perfect example of a steaming pile of trash. Then get into a Tesla and you have one that actually works.

I used to want this, but honestly what’s the point once Apple Music is there? All of Tesla’s other native apps are good.

Yes, you can.
