just like video streams are variable quality and fixed price.
Netflix plans have separate tiers based on streaming quality. $8.99 for SD, $13.99 for 1080p, $17.99 for 4K and HDR.

true, but audio also requires a tiny fraction of the bandwidth.Netflix plans have separate tiers based on streaming quality. $8.99 for SD, $13.99 for 1080p, $17.99 for 4K and HDR.
It’s Apple. Of course they’ll charge a premium. If they can do it at no extra charge
LDAC is not the end all be all either. A lot of other things to take into account besides.Almost… Sony’s LDAC bluetooth codec is as capable as bluetooth gets at the moment, Apple don’t currently support LDAC… watching this news with excitement!
I love MQA tho hahaThey also use MQA which many truly into HiFi detest because of its ties to DRM
You are the first person I have come across who owns 60 million songsMusic isn't going to change forever for me. I already own all of the music Apple wants me to rent.
Thanks captain obvious. We all know this and chose apple for many reasons. You know, not all of us line up to use Apple services with our Apple devices bought with our Apple credit cards. I enjoy my iPhone and my two Macs very much. My AirPods? Really great.
But I do not, and will not, use any of Apple's services because they're sub-par, to me. Whatever audio shenanigans Apple introduces won't change that. I have no interest in Spotify, Amazon's, Deezer's, or Tidal's "hi-fi" streams either.
If it matters to you, then by all means. Choose the one that works best (or just choose Apple if that makes you feel good) and enjoy it to its fullest. Genuinely. However, I assure you the vast universe outside of Apple's money-making machine will shrug and march on just fine.

Dorsey bought tidal at a bad time.Long way to catch up to Tidal. Tidal sounds fantastic on good audio gear.
If you use Bluetooth, it doesn’t matter, lossless adds nothing. Not sure how existing hardware will feed lossless from Apple.
I’m kinda hoping they announce some sort of partnership with Sony to bring LDAC and 360RA to Apple Music, only better and that Sony will be updating their compatible hardware to fully support it… I’m dreaming I know.I’d LOVE to think Apple’s getting ready to support LDAC! Unfortunately I expect them to release their own in house solution. It’ll be great for people who own AirPod products, but I don’t.
I’m still hoping against all odds that my Sony WH1000XM4s will somehow be supported by Apple’s new tier.
No. I would imagine this is over AirPlay.is bluetooth capable of playing hifi music? or would i need a lightning to headphone adapter?
If you're going to refuse the 2 options you have available to you then I don't think you can really complain.also, put out a dedicated Music app for Windows? No, i’m not using iTunes and the web player sucks.
Do you think perhaps Apple will announce some kind of new audio hardware that never made it to the rumor mill? It’s weird that they didn’t launch this until after they killed their sound-quality focused speaker.
Agree 100% on the organizing and GUI. While Apple often follows the less-is-more approach when initially designing something, they tend to make a mess sometimes when adding features. Makes me think of this study from this April about how humans solve by addition rather than the often-superior solution that would involve subtraction. All I can think about is: will any changes make the Music app even worse for organizing and navigating all my personal non-purchased music and music video files. Every major “improvement” has made it worse incrementally.
Be thankful. Silence is better than the usual "music" they use in their product videos.Wow. A spinning logo with no sound. Is this music for the deaf? Or does it only work on iPhone 6? LOL
Settings>TVI see no option to regulate the video content quality per networking channel. Where is that located? Turning off cellular data is not the same.
I doubt it, it’s pretty rare that new hardware doesn’t leak these days.Do you think perhaps Apple will announce some kind of new audio hardware that never made it to the rumor mill?
I agree. But, there’s no way Apple would make any level of fuzz over a hifi tier that is useless to most people. My hope is that the plan is for the hifi tier to be tagging along, but not directly related to the spatial audio. So that if you just want the hifi part, just turn off spatial audio.I really hope the announcement has nothing to do with “spatial audio” which is a silly gimmick for music. No different than the dumb 3D trend for movies. Remember 3D TVs a few years ago? LOL. That gimmick fizzled out real quick.
