I’m sure the licensing of music video rights across nations is just as complicated as one would expect.
These license people represent the ideas of past generations. They should finally go into retirement. Music videos are nothing more than music in terms of distribution and profit making.
Therefore national barriers should not stand in the way. Apple was able to enforce this rethinking in the field of music worldwide.

What difference would've have made?

A bigger audience.

Kind of the point of the events, no?

Why would announcing it at WWDC matter or change things?

I was thinking the Watch or iPhone event.

It's funny how this forum craps on Apple over nonsense simply because it's Apple.

I'm not "crapping on" anything. I'm making an observation.

Had this been Microsoft, Samsung or Sony not a single person would be crying about those companies not pre-announcing a new feature....that doesn't require a prior announcement. It's only a streaming music video feature. Lordy.

Take a chill pill, maybe?

A bigger audience shouldn't affect your bottom line. I'm sure you're not too worried about Apple's well being in terms of how many audiences they will reach this feature out to? They'll be just fine. I mean it's right in the app. People don't need an announcement for an extra feature in Apple Music. And anyone that even watches Apple's keynotes are probably the same people that go on forums or read tech news so they don't need announcement for this. Haha, you're telling me to take a chill pill when you're making a mountain out of a molehill. It's really not that serious to make a formal announcement over.

Here's what I wrote: "Interesting that they're soft-launching this when they had multiple opportunities to mention it at an event."

If you think that's "making a mountain out of a molehill", I don't know what to tell you.

Speaking of cost: I see no mention of cost. Is this free?

EDIT: Ah --"Watch NOW for free". Read: You will eventually have to pay for this.

Right?! I can see them offering this free and later blocking it off inside one of their paid services, as they did with all the genre-specific streaming radio stations years back. It will become another value-add exclusive to Music and TV+ subscribers.

This is actually cool. Getting back to what MTV used to be. I don't think I'll like much of the music they put on it (unless they have nights where they play 80s videos), but it's a great idea.

That would be in MY perfect world too as I love the 80's music. But let's be real about it, Apple needs to cater to millennials and younger generations so much of the music videos they will be showing are today's pop music.

ER, stupid Q: but where exactly is it? Don't see it on my iPad...

Apple today unveiled "Apple Music TV," a constant live stream of currently popular music videos, live shows, and events that will run for 24 hours every day (via Variety).

Users in the United States will be able to watch Apple Music TV in the Apple Music app as well as in the Apple TV app. In the TV app, you can scroll down a bit to find Apple Music TV highlighted today, and it's at the top of the Browse tab in Apple Music.

The new service has begun with a countdown of the top 100 most streamed songs in the United States on Apple Music. On Thursday, viewers will be able to tune in to a launch celebration of Bruce Springsteen's upcoming album, while on Friday it'll be the exclusive home to the launch of two music videos: Joji's "777" and Saint Jhn's "Gorgeous."

Apple said that every Friday it will debut new videos on Apple Music TV, and that viewers can expect to see Apple Music 1 radio host Zane Lowe appear on the platform doing interviews and more.

So is this channel going to play anything besides rap, hip hop or Taylor Swift type pop? Apple Music did zilch when Eddie Van Halen died even though Van Halen albums topped the iTunes Charts immediately following his death. And I remember when Prince’s estate released his music to streaming services. Spotify was running billboards everywhere to promote it. Apple Music barely mentioned it. I can’t get into the service because it only focuses on certain types of music. Thankfully I can just listen to my library and don’t have to pay attention to what Apple curates.

I saw the videos in Apple Music TV when this story first got posted, on my Mac in the TV app. But now, can't seem to find this in the TV app on a Mac or on an actual Apple TV, TV App ... but maybe it's in Music ... searching for Apple Music TV is rough ... there are a billion non-answers on Google.

But can't wait to see this again someday ... fun idea.

I always though it would be dope if a streaming service could bring back music video shows, or just some form of music video programming. But I didn't see this coming, it wasn't even advertised. I'm just finding out about it today.

I'm interested to see what they've come up with. I've been missing the different music video shows we had between BET, Vh1 and MTV back in the 80s and 90s.
