It never fails. Apple gives a free month to someone new (for a total of 4 months) and many of you complain and see the act as something terrible.
....

You are the product. Apple is using you for social network advertising. Apple already has a mountain of data on you and data mines that too select who to spam with notifications. Apple is taking advantage of your social network of friends.

Why would I do that to a friend?
End of the day its still a great service, its not like they are marketing crap, even though your definitely setting your friends up for $9.99 a month for life. But hey people will spend that on Starbucks every single morning so when you look at it like that its not a big deal.

Everyone has data on us, we can stop talking about that now its almost 2020. You can look at it that way or you can say let me just send this great music service to a friend, maybe it can help change their life in a positive way. I know Apple Music did for me by discovering new music I would have never come across. Yea this move from Apple is all about business but the end of the day it's a good service and I'm sure we have friends who would love to give it a try, that's all that matters.

I didn't say one couldn't voice an opinion. Send the feedback to Apple. Mocking Apple and denigrating them for making the offer (in and of itself) is wrong, in my opinion.

That's the only way people without power can feel good about themselves. At least for a few minutes.

Read the article. It explains why this makes sense.
[doublepost=1550271431][/doublepost]

So your theory is Apple, a for-profit business, would not be promoting their music service if iPhone sales were better? Is your theory basically that they have a maximum amount of revenue and once that cap is met they no longer feel the need to expend any effort in generating more revenue?

The product here is Apple Music. I don't see where your friends, family, or their personal information is being sold, so terrible analogy.

You want an Apple hater to read the article? LOL. You don't understand, they don't come here for information, they come to vent and try to make themselves feel better for using their Android phones and other non-Apple products. Winning!

It makes more sense to send them a link to the Apple Music site where they are offered a free 3-month trial.

As long as you're stingy with your friends, you're doing just right. Congrats.
[doublepost=1550341249][/doublepost]We live in a pretty broken world. Now people are already scolding when you give them something for free.

I will take up the Apple offer and know that I can make a person happy with it.

I bet there is little information telling you'll be billed for an ongoing subscription unless you "cancel" your "gift" in the first month. It's kind of a trap.

You'll have to explain that to those of us who aren't Jared Leto superfans.

He never ages, but not sure if i can say the same about AM. Never used my 3 free months, but mostly bc i have been using tidal and now it somewhat knows my musical taste lol. And theyll also let friends give others free month(s) so... http://tidal.refr.cc/ZCTGXTQ

Apple is today sending out notifications to Apple Music subscribers that, when tapped, allows them to send a referral to friend to sign up for a free one-month subscription to Apple Music.

According to Apple, the referrals for a free month of service can only be sent to people who do not already subscribe to Apple Music.

The person who signs up for the free trial will see their subscription renew after a month, or one month after the standard free trial.

That means people who have not used Apple Music before can get a total of four months of service for free, because Apple already offers a three month free trial for everyone.

Those who have already used a three month trial and then canceled may be able to get an additional month through this referral link.

Not all Apple Music users appear to be getting these notifications at this time, but we've seen multiple reports both from MacRumors readers and on Twitter.

Apple has promoted Apple Music in similar ways in the past, offering free trial extensions to those who previously signed up for Apple Music.

[doublepost=1550352961][/doublepost]Apple Music is astonishly bad. I wouldn't even give it away for free.

If it wasn't for smart playlist I'd probably be a Spotify user but I put a lot of time rating my music over the years. For that reason I chose Apple music.

But seriously apple if you want me as a subscriber to market your service to people give me an incentive, not just the person who's getting the free month. Sorry but I'm not wasting my time and effort to make you money and get nothing.

Yeah, I'm sure they won't be a friend anymore when they find out they coulda got 3 months free if they didn't know ya.

But Timmy said privacy.. not that they didn't try the ads business model before and failed miserably.

Does that mean you get four months free? How are artists compensated for these Freebies?
iTunes gift cards that can only be redeemed towards purchases of the artists own music.

Said the fish right before he took the bait.

I prefer the Mac app over the Spotify Mac app. I prefer the iPhone app. I prefer the watch app. I love the TV app.

... but I don’t use it due to the ****** music recommendations. I listen on dubstep. Apple Music doesn’t in ANY WAY show me new dubstep songs. The chill playlist has no dubstep. The new releases playlist just gives me some random new songs from the typical artists (Taylor Swift, Coldplay, or whatever else most people listen to). And the favorites playlist is awful, last week it was purely Kpop because I was listening on kpop a few years ago. And the week before that it was only hip hop.

Meanwhile, the “Discover weekly” on Spotify serves me EXACTLY the kind of dubstep that I have in my library.

For a while I grabbed the discover weekly songs and imported them to iTunes, but even that didn’t help the music recommendation in iTunes.

The 'gift' to other potential Apple music interested users, should be good.

You will always get those trying to take advantage of the situation.

Dunno what to think about Apple Music right now. I wrote some feedback to Apple about the weird recommendations or that my personal radio plays songs I disliked (and it even shows me, that I disliked it) and that the "For you" page has nothing really interesting for me.
I spent hours liking and disliking songs which doesn't seem to change something. I also copied over Playlists and the weekly mix from Spotify. Giving a month of Apple Music might be nice for someone who is interested in using the eco system of Apple, but most people should already tried AM, no?

Apple Music is not perfect, but neither is Spotify. I’ve been using Spotify for much longer than Apple Music. For example if I started a radio based on a song Spotify would cycle endlessly same 15-20 songs.
