This could work, if Siri was usable. But as it stands now, this is 90 million more reasons for Siri to mess things up.
Amazon has free music streaming included in Amazon Prime membership. It also has a pay streaming service with a more expansive library. Not even Amazon, the king of value, can make that work.
Amazon charges $3.99/month for a single device plan. That's right. It's not even free for Amazon Prime subscribers. This plan is also more limited than $4.99/month Apple Music Voice plan in that only one device can be paired with it, limited to Echo or Fire TV. While Apple Music Voice is also limited to a single stream (just like Apple Music Individual), it can be paired with many Apple devices at once.
And yes, the article points out that Apple is offering a 7-day trial.
And, in addition, they train better their voice recognition system. Win/win.Apple is trying to boost their subscriber numbers to look better when compared to Spotify's paid subscriber numbers. That's really all that is going on here.
This is intended for those not already using Apple Music. ?

More like 2021’s version of PingThis is 2021’s version of the iPod shuffle.
This music voice plan should have been FREE since Siri is doing all the magic. I’m not sure why Apple is even charging a service fee for this.
We are already paying for Apple Music Service Fee. Paying for a small feature extra makes no sense. ??♀️
Is there even a free trial for this?
Wait - what? Right there, in the very first sentence of the article, it indicates that this no more than "a new low-price subscription tier for Apple Music." Said another way: if you are a Music subscriber, there is nothing at all to see here. Move along. Continue using Music as you always have.It seems very odd to deliberately remove functionality from the iOS Music app and force you to use your voice. Very weird diversion from the most natural approach in that setting. I thought Apple’s philosophy was to make the human-machine interaction as natural as possible in any given context?
If you have an Apple device, you "paid for Siri."Pay for Siri? Ha.
Oh yeah... I still have such a hands-on relationship with my music that I didn't even know to think of that potential. Makes sense/cents. 😜And people already using Apple Music, like me, who only engages AM via Siri for multiple HomePod use.
I'd much rather pay $5/month than $10/month.
Nor have I.I've never had a problem engaging AM via Siri.
Apple is paying you to use Siri. Regular music plan is $10Pay for Siri? Ha.
It is not free if I am paying for Prime.Amazon has free music streaming included in Amazon Prime membership. It also has a pay streaming service with a more expansive library.
I wouldn’t use Siri even if they paid me. Or Alexa. It’s all over-engineered. I don’t need a computer to tell me when to take a cr@p or “suggest“ music or movies or anything else. It all just gets in the way. Remember how computers on the Boeing 737 Max “suggested” that the pilot go into a steep nose dive? Give humans control of their machines.Apple is paying you to use Siri. It's a direct answer to Amazon's plan where you pay $4/mo to get music streaming on one Echo. For a casual listener with (perhaps just) a HomePod mini, its a cheap(er) way to stream music. They released it going into a holiday season where some people will likely be getting HomePod minis as gifts. It makes perfect sense. My guess is this is a way for Apple to entice more people to use Siri more so they can improve its algorithm and accuracy to better compete with Amazon and Google AI.
At least things with little initial value that only depreciate, like digital music.Well of course. Everything should be FREE!
I have two HomePods. But there are times I want to play something that Siri doesn’t comprehend or my dog barks while I’m trying to talk to Siri and she says “sorry I can’t find Franklin shut up on Apple Music” and idk how you’d get by without being able to search manually.I understand the purpose is for HomePod owners but gosh, this seems goofy to me.
You need to reread the article. You don’t seem to understand the subject matter. Your comment makes no sense. This music voice plan should have been FREE since Siri is doing all the magic. I’m not sure why Apple is even charging a service fee for this.
