Apple NAB Special Event This Weekend

I agree with the above poster, it'll be some cool product that won't be available for a few months. Getting tired of the promises, need products that I can actually use.

I really do hope it's not just Final Cut, I hope for ilife upgrades, something for us "poor" computer users.

Sorry dude,
You are going to be still be tired of waiting.
NAB will focus om professional products for film and video. Software and maybe hardware.
So if you want for your poor wallet and folks, you are looking at the wrong place.
Keep waiting.

I'll take a 13.3" Macbook with a 1440x900 display myself. Considering IBM and Dell have been shipping laptops with LCDs 1440-pixels-wide in 4:3, 14.1" format for a long time, some users, myself included, will be more than happy to deal with smaller icons, until they're all moved to SVG (as long as the fonts can be scaled somewhat).

This being Apple, though, I'm afraid even were this to happen they'll just make it available in the black model. Why can't Apple let its users customize their BTO models to their liking? After all, those who are not computer-savvy will just pick one of the standard options anyway.

I hereby officially expect nothing. Absolutely nothing of interest. They will release the new suite of FC, probably, and it will be the best thing since sliced bread if you need that kind of thing (FCE is totally meets all of my needs).

After the disaster that was MW2007, and the "Oh, did we say Spring??" news from yesterday, my expectations are extremely low.

Totally agree with you. I expect nothing from this "event". Hell they will probably just say "Updated Final Cut...in October with Leopard...Sorry guys, but iPhone is so totally awesome"

And Leopard secret features?!?! All fake.

I think I'm still angry about yesterday...I had to vent some more.

(Please excuse this post as a useless rant :D )

I thought steave boy said theres going to be alot of exciting new hardware over the next couple a months.

I myself would love a mini pro tower but would probaly imagine price point to start at 1400-1600 and then go up to 2500. Also new displays would be awsome. All i know is if there is nothing that peaks my interest I am going to go back to the PC camp for the next 2years. I have been waiting way too long for hardware updates for apples line to be updated.

leopard rant ahead...

is this apple's excuse of missing the spring 2007 date?

the first sentence i want to hear is:

"the october 2007 leopard release is not true...".

Most people probably don't care but I have been tracking some of my "predictions" from earlier this year.

Long and a lot of macrumors links . . . . .

There. Anything "sooner" is a win. Anything missing entirely or more than 2 months later is a loss.
I am shooting for a 70% record. Buy Apple stock.

A better question is since there IS a press event with Steve Jobs present,
what might he announce as "one more thing"?

Primary:
EMI content on iTunes

https://www.macrumors.com/2007/04/02/behind-the-apple-emi-deal/

Likely:
Watermarked vs DRM format

== CONFIRMED 6 of 12

Apple loseless format
HD 720i music videos

Less Likely:
iMac Quad with some music related software (Logic Extreme, Garage band 4 or something)
Apple BUYS EMI (they already own the Apple trademark free and clear)

nothing against you dude, but YOU have a lot of time in your hands...

the first sentence i want to hear is:

"the october 2007 leopard release is not true...".

And then the next one you hear will be "...It is actually shipping in spring of 2008."

I'm not expecting too much from this event, but I would love to be wrong.

I bet you'll won't be able to buy the different apps of FCS 2 on their own, you have to buy the whole suite.

And expect some nice Blu-Ray support-in DVD Studio Pro. I also predict AVCHD support will not be part of FC 6 (most of the cameras are consumer focused) .

People will be skipping meals so they can afford to buy an iPhone. Now-unemployed Don Imus will take a job at Rutgers as a janitor at the women's athletic facility so he can afford to buy an iPhone. Parents will sell children. Children will sell parents. All so they can slide their greasy finger across that multi-touch screen to unlock the iPhone... and smudge it.

I went for a time thinking the iPhone was neat (RDF, I suppose), but now I realize it's a huge distraction for Apple.

This is not an attempt to hijack this thread. The reason I am talking about this is because I thought Apple would use the NAB special event to talk about the secret features in Leopard, since Apple said it was going to be released in the Spring (June, presumably). When the seed hit yesterday, I presumed the secret features would be there, waiting for disclosure on Sunday.

I'm irritated about yesterday because they held to the Spring delivery date for so long, even when it's now obvious that they weren't telling the truth. They didn't just decide yesterday that they need to delay it 4 months. I bet they've known for months.

Anyway, I now reiterate what I said in my first post in this thread. Please cut & paste those here in your own mind. I expect nada on Sunday.

If there are monitor upgrades I think we might see a 24" addition to the line, I could go out on a limb here and say it might even be HD. The LG people have EOL the 23 screen so there is only so much life left in it.

FCS studio and maybe a few more graphic card options to the MacPro line. The new Nvidia 5500 cards that are replacing the 4500 seem to be a very logical choice. As Apple has changed the way it upgrades the MacPro line by adding BTO options instead of refreshing the line-up this could easily be added at anytime. If Apple can not release FCS 6 until Leopard then a 0.5 update should do the trick. Maybe through in some new features to Motion like a 3d camera as well as tracking and such, add some codecs and what not.

I am also hoping that we might see Apple showing use some demos of CS3 running on a the MacPro's, I would love to see After Effects CS3 performance on on of these. They should really show hoe Motion can be the best plug-in for After Effects, they really need to sell this to people because most do not seem to know this.

To be announced at the NAB special event:

Apple was just kidding, Leopard is still on target for an early June release. Sorry for the mixup!!

*crosses fingers*
:(

Yeah, I wish.
If this announcement came on 4/1, I would have agreed with you.

What do you mean it might be HD? The current 23" already has more (vertical) resolution than any HD standard.

For that matter, the 20" is HD (> 720p) ... The Powerbook G4 was HD (> 720p), etc... (I know, i guess you were talking about the 1080p HD standard and not HD in general, but still, the current 23" exceeds that already).

I will be at the NAB event this Sunday, so hopefully Apple will throw out something for those in attendance... perhaps a discount or something. ;)

As far es expectations go, Im betting Appe will announce the FC variants, including extreme, and Im hoping for a display refresh.

storage

I wouldn't be surprised to see an update to the XServe RAID.

Currently the XServe uses SATA (Serial ATA) and SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) drives while the XServe RAID still uses older Ultra ATA drives.

So an update to the XServe RAID from Ultra ATA to SATA and SAS to catch up with the XServe would not be unreasonable.

Fibre Channel over Convergence Enhanced Ethernet (FCoCEE) requires 10 Gb/s Ethernet (up from the current 1 Gb/s) and the CEE standard hasn't been officially adopted yet. So I don't expect to see Apple drop or radically change its existing Fibre Channel storage architecture.

This would seem to be an appropriate update to announce at NAB.

We'll know soon enough. :)

Sorry need to fix that, I mean HDMI, HDCP or something to that effect.
