Wow, talk about statistical manipulation...

There were 4243 respondents. Only 4% of them thought Cook was "overrated".

That bizarre ratio you quoted illustrates the point that Fortune itself makes in the article: he's 3rd on the list of most overrated CEOs and also voted 5th most underrated.

Or, as you would say, 3:5...
Let me restate, then:
Of the 4243 respondents, that called-out a personal opinion of Cook's management style:

183/4243 [overrated] : 72/4243 [underrated]
2.3 : 1 felt Cook overrated
(Off [(182+72)/4243]=6% that voted an opinion)

I'm guessing this vote took place before the iPhone recently tanked. At least they understand Cook is overrated. He is totally overrated and they need someone else driving the train.

I would bet this is the last year of this award.

Despite its recent financial stumble, Apple has topped Fortune's annual ranking of the World's Most Admired Companies for the 12th consecutive year.

Meanwhile, MSFT is holding on as the richest corporation at number 1:cool:!

Apple is about to report EPS and stocks sometimes give you opportunities to buy.

AAPL's estimated earning range is too high - lowest is $4.14! It was $3.89 last year for this quarter, and T Cook said that they hadn't done as well this year. If it makes $4.0 it will be a surprise, says me with zero statistic behind that number:D. Well, if the Wall Street can make such guesses …

Apple finished ahead of Amazon, the runner-up for a third consecutive year, while Warren Buffett's holding company Berkshire Hathaway, The Walt Disney Company, and coffee chain Starbucks rounded off the top five. Apple rivals Microsoft, Google, and Samsung ranked 6th, 7th, and 50th respectively....
What does the revision to the guidance have anything to do with this article MacRumors?

I’ll take that bet. But how to collect the winnings is the question.

What other company can charge $749 for sub-1080p screens and still have them sell? I mean, you gotta admire that
What other company has people complaining that a 5.1 inch screen doesn't have 1080p resolution, when nobody has eyes that can see the difference? (There were even complaints that an iPhone doesn't have a 4K screen).

APPL's estimated earning range ...

Nobody will ever take you serious if you talk about APPL, which is a long defunct oil company. Apple is AAPL.

Bravo. In reality, it was just over 4%. 94% feel that Tim Cook is rated exactly right.

In other news, MacRumors curmudgeons voted Apple the Most Heinous Company. In typically humorless forum posts, Apple critics disregard all evidence to the contrary and unilaterally declare Apple as the worst company to ever exist.

“Where is my US$99 iPhone?” seems to be the rallying cry. “Apple keeps overcharging. We know they use slave labor and never pay taxes. They also use inferior intel parts. No way there’s more than 3¢ worth of parts there,” others say. Rampant denial and equivocation is expected when news is received that anyone could reasonably disagree.

Expect to see more comments of “Fire Tim Cook” as critics rally together in force not seen since the last Guy Fawkes day.

There are both sides to every story. There are those that will blindly bash Apple and then there are those that blindly praise Apple. Neither of those sides looks at the details, just spews their mindset forth.

I ranted/raved about my 2016 MBP when it came out as a worthless, over-priced, POS. However, (after 1.5 years of updates), it's been stable for the past couple years and is almost as good as my previous 2012 rMBP (lack of ports don't bother me anymore as all my conference rooms have USB-C adapters). Though the Touch Bar is still as useless as it was day one lol.

This is obviously satire, isn‘t it?
“Social Responsibility“ seems to have a different meaning in US, i guess.
Like „i punched you only 3 times, whereas the others punched you 5 times. I’m socially responsible!“

WTF? Look what Apple have done and keep doing in China and Africa and say it again to my face. Sick world...

Yeah, for now. Just like Apple was the #1 for a time too. Stocks go up and down.

Apple makes 3X the profit of Microsoft, BTW....so Microsoft is more expensive relative to its earnings...significantly more. We can argue all day if that's right or not, but stocks are about earnings at the end of the day.

Based on the guidance we got from Cook earlier this month in the letter, Apple is going to do at least $4.10/share. Fewer shares = more EPS.

Yes, this will change.

MSFT is not as good with the P/E ratio, but their software and services segment seems more solid - and their user base is enormous.

If the actual number of units Apple sells goes down, the earnings might not hold, even with the concentrated shares.

Failing upwards. See Apple.
Admired for what?
Disappointing customers?
Failing to deliver basic desktops as promised?
'Curating' free speech?
Using inferior build quality standards?
Pushing their workers to hurl themselves out of factory windows?

I thought the comment was referring to the old MacBook Air that they still sell, then checked and realised it costs much more than $749 so it can't be that!! You do have to admire that they can still sell that old bag of crap for £949!!

Apple topped the list in every category, such as innovation, quality of management, social responsibility, use of corporate assets, financial soundness, quality of products and services, and global competitiveness.

This statement made me laugh quality of products poor battery in i phone 6 mac book keyboard issues and now more issues with mac book flex cables .

Here's how I read this:

Apple, itself as a company is admired as it's an extremely large, financially viable and world renowned brand. It's got good cash flow and any CEO Would love to get a shot at running the company.

On Tim's "rating". and why it seems to be a little more negative than the opinions on Apple itself, is that many of those CEO's probably see the job he's done, and believe they could have done a much better job.

Its sort of the same situation you would have seen with MSFT and Ballmer. Ballmer had seen MSFT through some of it's largest financial growth. But at the same time, that growth was despite him, not necessarily because of him, and most of the industry believed that if it was a competent CEO, they would have done even better. I believe this is probably the mindset that is shown by this report. Apple is succesful despite Cook, and they (who claimed he was overrated) believe they can do better.

But since they're thinking hypothetically, we'd probably never know.

Yes, I do admire the hobbled products, the products that have been neglected and discontinued, and the astronomical high prices, the reduced quality control, and the sheer number uncritical fans.

In the past I’ve often felt these posts are unfairly critical. I’m slow to change. Even I can see that each one of these points is simultaneously true.

Proof that Fortune is pay-to-play like JD Power Award and delivered just in time when needed.

Constantly surprised by the need of some people to waste so much time putting down products they claim to hate so much. Amazing. Apple isn't perfect, but apparently the competition is lacking as well. Do people seek out those sites too?

Ughh!! This 1080p resolution stuff is getting sillier than the megapixel war in early 2000 on photography!! And I bet all people moaning about it can't tell the difference. Just like the ones on this video.
