What could Tim be thinking about?

I truly love Apple products, but I find it almost laughable to call them the most innovative company in the world. SpaceX, for example, is revolutionizing an entire industry right now...Literally doing rocket science. HomePod vs. Falcon Heavy? C'mon, it's not even close.
Oh man. From the picture it looks like TC is scoping out the trajectory to the moon cuz he'll be riding the HomePod all the way there and back. Forget falcon heavy. HP is so much cheaper and environmentally friendlier.

"For delivering the future today"

Reality today: Just 4 out of 18 products in the MacRumors Buyer's Guide are categorized as "Buy now."
So? If i need that Apple product today i'm not going to wait 6 months for a new model. This is stupid way to measure anything.

Touch bar was truly the greatest innovation in history

Fast Company today published its annual rankings of the 50 most innovative companies in the world, and this year, Apple is the number one company on the list for "delivering the future today."

Apple was picked for its impressive list of accomplishments in 2017, which included the iPhone X, the Apple Watch Series 3, ARKit, and its unique focus on hardware and software integration that sets it apart from its competitors. Apple designs its own chips that are optimized for its operating systems, resulting in performance that blows the competition away.

Apple also topped the list for its focus on privacy-based artificial intelligence advancements, its growing entertainment business, and its work to improve medical care with CareKit and ResearchKit. Its accomplishments boosted it up three spots from last year, when it was ranked the number four most valuable company in the 2017 list.

To create these rankings, Fast Company says that more than three dozen editors, reporters, and contributors surveyed thousands of companies to identify the most notable innovations of the year and trace their impact on businesses, industries, and the larger culture.

Other companies that made the top 10 list include Netflix, Square, Tencent, Amazon, Patagonia, CVS Health, The Washington Post, Spotify, and the NBA.

In addition to a master list, Fast Company publishes a breakdown of most innovative companies by sector. Apple also topped the list in the "Consumer Electronics" category, beating out companies like Amazon, Nintendo, and Sony.

Is this a joke?

Not surprised. And certainly well deserved. Congratulations!

Is this a joke? I think the future is AI this should be going to Microsoft or Google for most innovative company

LOL.....how much did Apple pay them for this honor?
iPhone X = Note 8
HomePod = Amazon Echo (And amazon integrates software just as well as they do)
Apple Watch 3 = Samsung Gear Watch

The list goes on and on, really they haven't been innovative in a very long time, even the original iPhone was simple an improvement on the smart phones that existed at the time.

Let's look at what Amazon has managed to do by comparison:
eReaders - Hands down they win on this one, they are easier to read on than tablets, yes they do only one thing, but they do it incredibly well.

Fire Tablets - Honestly their performance compares to the iPad and is substantially cheaper. Although this isn't truly innovative, what is innovative is the Mayday button that can summon live help within about 30 seconds and the help can fix about 98% of all issues on the first call.

Amazon Echo - This invented the category of smart speakers, so can't really call Apple innovative on this one.

Then Google has come up with wireless earbuds that will translate in real time and look nicer than Apple's airpods.

What have they done in the past 5 years that has actually been innovative? Even Facial ID is copied from preexisting technology.
Your comparables aren’t even close to accurate.

Apple is great and all compared to many companies but those of us who have been following them for a long time are just disappointed at how much better we know they could be. Apple always held themselves to a different standard and now it’s more like “be a little better than the next guy while making the most money” than some revolutionary call to think different. At least they’re one of the most innovative when it comes to privacy but unfortunately I also feel like it’s holding them back to a certain extent and now they’re caving to countries like China. I hate to say what I think Steve Jobs would have done, but I can’t help but think he’d tell China to go to hell. Money wasn’t his primary driving force. Money was more of a security so he could try crazy things and not lose his company again.

The continued infatuation of Wall Street and the press with Apple. I find the award to be odd, considering that Mac and iOS hardware has looked and acted the same for many years (except of course for that awesome notch design, which hopefully makes onto more products!).

THIS IS garbage.

If they win an award for the philosophy of software & hardware integration, the award should go to steve jobs.

But these last 4 years under Tim Cook, there has been little to no innovation! Tim Cook is the master at maximizing revenue in the short term and pissing off long term customers though. If anything, Apple has just copied and let others lead the way. Honestly, get that picture of Timmy O'Tool off there!

But to be balanced, Airpods were cool because of the W1 chip. Also, Apple Iphone companion (aka Apple Watch), isn't too bad but I have no luv for it. So many other great and fantastic tech companies changing the way we live through innovation, but that hasn't been Apple since Tim has been leading the charge!

Is that right? Interesting how the competitors are copying Apple’s key decisions on that product line, such as moving to All USB C.
That decision seems okey with many. But Apple never released half cooked product. Have you seen those keyboard issues?

In terms of the innovation.....Was it the excellent and rock solid APFS, the lack of ports on a "pro" system, the quality Macbook Pro butterfly keyboard that a piece of dust can defeat (https://theoutline.com/post/2402/the-new-macbook-keyboard-is-ruining-my-life?zd=2&zi=3mee6gbe)

...perhaps it was the secret until found out forced obsolescence iPhone battery system or the ginger haired emoji?

Or maybe it was the stellar Magic Mouse 2 bottom charging port. Winning great accolades on the Apple website for that innovation :p
