Apple is making the 5 larger, but not too much larger. Why? The limits of current battery technology would make a larger screen phone largely impractical in terms of the size of smaller human hands and existing battery technology.

Yes, but Apple made it worse than it needed to be. They're so obsessed with making the phone as skinny as possible that it limits it's battery life (not to mention how fragile the thinness makes the phone), but could have kept the same thickness of the 4S (which is already thin) and really fattened up the battery.

Apple NEEDS an iPhone with bigger screen size to silence critics

What a thinly veiled critic, is YOU! ;)

To quote Paul Teutel Sr., "They don't tell us what bike to make, they buy what we make them."

Apple doesn't have focus groups.

If you send a suggestion to Apple, their lawyers send you a letter back saying, "thanks no thanks, we don't take suggestions and don't do that again." Ask that 9 years old girl.

If Apple listen to every Dick&Harriet, they'd be just like <gasp!> Samsung!

Apple doesn't need to play to the critics, it needs to play to their consumer, and Apple has plenty of consumers right now. Anyway, a larger screen wouldn't silence their critics, Apple's critics will always find something to criticize.

I just wonder how much of their business is new and how much is loyalty to the brand. I don't think they rake in the new customers like they used to these days.

They have a very solid and loyal base they will buy anything they put out no matter how behind the times they are

Bigger screen size wouldn't please everyone. Most are happy with the 4" or else they wouldn't be purchasing the 5

When it comes to Apple its more about the features, ecosystem, iTunes accessibility etc.
Apple is quality and always incorporate new bells & whistles with every model.

Somebody back a few posts ago put up a really good question :

How many people are upgrading to the 5 over new purchases ? how many people are going along with the whole "its the new iphone i must have it as its perfect like my old one was"

This number vs the Actual number of first time new iphone purchasers would probably shut a lot of people up , and surprise a few of the apple "uberfans".

This isn't criticism, this isnt a cheap shot i own a 4s and have used a 5 , and own a galaxy nexus and have had an sgs3

I just think its all a bit out of proportion the whole yay new iphone is perfect , oh wait no it isnt every time a release happens !

Since when is that their business model? Why should they care what the armchair analysts think?

However, I've noticed that a growing number of people have this obsessive desire for a bigger screen on their phones. They will have nothing less than a phone with a 4.8" screen.

I believe that for Apple to continue to be a great company it needs to play the game where the market is. When Apple stops doing that, they risk shrinking and losing their edge.
So where's the evidence that this is an issue? Their sales numbers should be impacted if this is true.

How many would buy a larger screen iPhone but switched to a different manufacturer? "I've noticed" means nothing. Where are the numbers? Without them, keep you day job and leave the analysis to the pros.

I wish Apple would of made the iphone 5 a little wider too, but I also don't want to hold a tablet sized damn iphone up to my ear.

I have tried the very large screen on the Samsung Note 2 and it's monstrous. I wouldn't want a phone that large.

The screen is difficult to use one handed. If you want something that large go for Samsung or just use a tablet.
