With iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4, Apple plans to introduce new features for the Apple News+ subscription service. Apple is adding Apple News+ Food, a section that features tens of thousands of recipes, stories about restaurants, tips for healthy eating, kitchen essentials, and more.

Content will come from top food publishers such as Allrecipes, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Good Food, and Serious Eats.

Apple News editors will curate food-related stories, and there will be a dedicated Recipe Catalog section where new recipes are added regularly. An included cook mode provides step-by-step instructions, and users can save favorite recipes for offline access.

Apple News+ Food is coming to Apple News+ subscribers with the launch of iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 in April.

Why not just break Recipes out to its own app? It seems a bit odd to merge news and recipes together... "breaking news: a city-killer asteroid has an 11.7% chance of striking Earth next month... and here's a recipe to some delicious, quick & easy snacks to enjoy while watching the fiery show." ;)

Curated content is fine and all but this seems like it should be its own app to me. Else, why don't we just fold Music & podcasts into this too... maybe movie trailers... tax prep software... todo lists... etc.

Don't most people read their news[paper] on the toilet? I guess they will be prepping food in there now as well.

As someone with zero interest in sports, it would sure be nice if we can finally remove that sports tab at the bottom.

Edit: Doesn’t appear to be a way to switch it out or remove it. I would have loved to replace it with either Food or Puzzles. I anticipate using the new recipe section a lot.

Maybe they're still going for that digital newsstand idea? Have newspapers, magazines, now cookbooks, all within arm's reach?

At this rate they'll just reinvent Barnes & Noble.

It makes perfect sense for a News app to now include games, recipes and reviews !

Seriously though, those are appreciated features, but is News becoming the new iTunes that they'll have to split someday ?

Well at least it's on the iPad too but it's not on Sequoia? I prefer to read my news BIG!

Seems odd, but they have to provide more value…
I had a free trial and did not find the News app worthy for me, YMMV

I like Apple News but I don’t subscribe to News+ because it has a very limited number of magazines and newspapers from my country.

That would save me some time. Honestly, I would have no idea what snack to put together for an asteroid strike.

I agree it should be broken out into a recipes app that also includes video support. If they really are going to have some kind of HomePod with a screen built into it this will be key for home cooks.
