I was offered the three months free then when I signed up apple charged my Apple Card for $9.99.

I was offered it too. Very cheeky for apple to hope people sign up, like you did.
It shouldn’t offer the trial for non-eligible customers!

It does says “eligible customers only” though
Why would they offer it to someone who isn’t eligible? Why would they not say your ineligible when you accept the offer? When they offer it to you, you can assume you’re eligible. It‘s possible they would offer another trial to entice you. It‘s not like they don’t know. They give no explanation of eligibility.

I'm trying to figure out why News+ is the only service that doesn't offer a yearly rate like the rest.

What problem are you trying to solve?

Is it really that hard to grasp the concept of someone wanting to read to learn something new or entertain themselves?
Is it that hard for you to grasp the concept that what News+ offers for a fee is available free already? And those parts like magazine that aren’t available for free aren’t anything people are interested in enough to pay money for, hence why Apple has to give this service away as well?

They could offer a free year and I'm not biting. I still see the one year of ATV+ for when I bought my iPad Pro and I'm not doing that either. I wish this subscription craze would end.
You can choose to decline the year of ATV+, that's what I did. Then the message goes away.

I actually generally like the idea of Apple news + and the value of content it provides. What I don’t like the feeling of is the continuous feed of news articles. There’s a danger to getting sucked into these services and spending too much time in them. But this is coming from someone who outside of this forum doesn’t use social media.

It has really, really, really been pissing me off how much Apple is shoving this and Apple Music in my face practically everytime I open the News and Music apps on my iPad or iPhone. I've seen countless threads of people bashing SAMSUNG for doing this in their Music app (calling it cheap for them to inject adverts into an app that comes with a premium device), and here is Apple just taking cues from SAMSUNG shoving spam in our faces when we just want to use the software on our $1000 i-device.

I don't have a paid subscription to News+, but I use the app to follow various sources that I like. I usually check out the latest MacRumors articles there. It's convenient as a one-stop app, but I've found that subscribing individually to a favourite paid news source (that isn't part of the News+ package) is way better bang for buck and less cluttered than settling for a hundred sources of meh articles.

You don't want to use News, but yet you open the app. I'm missing something here. I couldn't even tell you what the interface looks like now, I don't use it and haven't launched it in ages.

Is there a point to *someone else's* curated news experience?

At this point what is the purpose of signing up for Apple One if half of the services have 3+ month trials? I have no interest in News+ but it doesn’t really seem like a toss in on the most expensive plan if it’s a free trial all the time and the fitness service still hasn’t launched.

I havn't bought a physical newspaper or magazine for years. Most magazines in the UK are 60% adverts..

I'm sure 9 quid is a good deal compared to buying physical, but its of no value to me..

You need to buy better magazines, Classic & Vintage Commercials for example has a lot less adverts than that. :)
