Does this come with WSJ at least?
Yes. Here are the newspapers:

The entire publication list is here: https://www.apple.com/apple-news/publications/

For me, reading paper-based media (books, newspapers) is as much about getting away from devices as it is about the content itself.

Also, who honestly spends the equivalent of £/$10 a month on print, or least has the time to read more than that money's worth of print?

To be fair, a decent mag is at least a fiver. Newspapers are a quid a day. It’s not a bad deal if the stuff you read normally is on there.

Why would they offer it to someone who isn’t eligible? Why would they not say your ineligible when you accept the offer? When they offer it to you, you can assume you’re eligible. It‘s possible they would offer another trial to entice you. It‘s not like they don’t know. They give no explanation of eligibility.
Apple respects your privacy so they don't know until billing time.

I'm of the opinion that Apple News+ is the best way to consume news in the modern age. I particularly like the deep takes you get across multiple sources with differing viewpoints. It really allows you to develop an informed opinion about the big issues of our time.

I seem to be the only person I know that actually likes Apple News+, but then it has the magazines I would normally buy and it's cheaper so a no-brainer.
I like it too. Having full access to magazines of my interest is a lot different than scrolling through Instagram. Not sure I’ll subscribe after my trial though. I get an edu discount with Apple Music which comes with free TV+ so I don’t have interest in a bundle.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but I’m subscribing to Apple Music Family, and 2 TB of iCloud, separately. It only saves me $5 per month (USD), but I don’t have time for Apple TV or News, and certainly don’t want Fitness or Arcade.

It’s only an extra $5 per month for the 4 services, but I really can’t see myself ever using Fitness.

They could offer a free year and I'm not biting. I still see the one year of ATV+ for when I bought my iPad Pro and I'm not doing that either. I wish this subscription craze would end.
Paying monthly for TV, newspapers, and magazines isn’t new. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s not part of a craze. In fact, subscribing today is better than ever, since everything is on-demand.

Also, this is ad-free. Well, I’m not sure about News+, but ATV is OK as a service.

I feel like Apple just robbed me of £10! A most un-Apple experience.

A pop up for 3 months free for Black Friday appears on my iPad. I think sure why not, I’ll set a reminder to cancel if it hasn’t improved any since last time.
I set up the subscription and instantly get charged £10 and no free 3 months.
I understand now that I’m apparently ineligible but that knowledge isn’t much use to me now.
I should never have been presented that pop up. I’m raging!

Apple News name is wrong. It's Apple Magazines.

If Apple market it as hundreds for magazines for 9.99$, then it "might" work. News should be free in 2020.

I don't think news should be free as newspapers have to make money to pay their journalists and this shows since you have major cities in the US that have cut back coverage or eliminated their newspapers all together. Not everything in life should be free.

I guess you have to pad those numbers out somehow! (And how many poor customers will they get an accidental free month's sub out of because they forget to cancel and can't figure out how to get a refund?)

‘people who value journalism and understand a free press is our greatest tool against government overreach.
I’m not sure how to interpret the intent of your comment. On the face of it, I agree with your words. However, if your intention was to support Apple News, then I very much disagree with you.

Apple News furthers the race to the bottom in journalism. It will help do to “news” what the music streaming services did to musicians. It will further promote click bate journalism that has very little substance by rewarding just pumping it out versus well researched and substantive reporting that takes time, effort, and funding. It further promotes the corporatization of information.

I don’t know what the answer is to foster good journalism, but it’s not Apple News and other services like them.

I deleted the News app ages ago, the editors are woke cultists. All of their “coverage” is slanted toward their politics. Not worth the bother. I can’t imagine paying for content in that app. Pure trash.

Not nearly as much as I wish people on Macrumors would stop thinking that if they don't like or want something Apple makes then nobody else outside of the MR bubble does. 🙄

grr..this happened to me too. Is there an easy way to reverse it? SLEAZY apple...
A company makes an honest mistake and you call them sleazy? SMH. I hope you realize you can simply call Apple and they will reverse the charge or credit your card back. A day of MR members not trashing Apple is a day we all live in a unicorn world. Lordy.

Here's a thought. Maybe customers can read the T&C before signing up, especially when it states "Eligible Customers". Does Apple need to hold everyone's hand? I can assure you Microsoft and Samsung don't hold anyone's hand, nor do they throw their terms in the consumer's face so there's no mistake on eligibility.
