anybody get applecare with their referb?

Not yet. I'm on the fence about it and am leaning towards not bothering. L A Computer Company has AppleCare for $90 off retail, but, I didn't buy it for my mid2012, never needed it, and Apple still swapped it out with a 2016 when it was just over 5 years old and just needed a battery. Apple used to also have a flat rate repair program for portables that would cover pretty much everything for just a little more than applecare costs. I'm probably going to wait and see how the machine works for the first few months and if it smells like a lemon that will need to go in more than once I'll gamble and buy it.

My experience:

Tuesday, July 25 — Genius Bar appointment. First been told that I will get a battery replacement in 3-5 days, I mentioned that I heard batteries being out of stock at the moment, and she confirmed that and said I will get a replacement.
Tuesday, July 25 — Call from Apple (just couple of hours after my appointment) got my cc info.
Wednesday, July 26 — Another call from Apple, they entered a wrong item number and reentering the replacement info again and need my cc info.
Saturday, July 29 — CC has been charged.
Wednesday, August 2 — Received email that my replacement arrived, got a call 1 hr later after email from the Apple Store that my replacement has arrived. Model exchanged: mid 2012 rMBP 2.6GHz, 16GB, 512GB. Model received 2.7GHz, 16GB, 512GB in Silver with TouchBar :).

Nice! My replacement model was ready for pickup today, but I need to back up and wipe my current model.

All I know is that it's a silver Touch Bar model — so that's a 2016 or 2017! We'll see tomorrow.

I restored everything to my 2016 from my time capsule back up.

But I'm considering making some individual files to back up (most of it already is backed up that way anyway) and blowing the HD away and starting fresh. Clean install everything and start over.

Feels like there is too much carry over. It even installed the stuff from the mid-2012 Nvidia Cuda graphics card.

Dropped mine off on 8/3 for a display and battery. Just got a call from the Apple Store that the top case was constrained with no firm date, but expected in 1-2 weeks. No offer for a replacement...just an offer to do only the display and wait until the parts come in for the rest.

I am late in getting my replacement but I did get it. 2017 tb, 2.8, 256. Thanks MacRumors, without your info, I would not have known about this.

no words to describe how i am upset, had a big project going on in agust and just finished, so i look up rumors again to give my macbook pro, which had the same issue mid 2012- retina with saying battery service,

is there any any any any tiny little chance of replacing now? :(

You might get the battery replaced for free but unlikely you'll get a replacement device. You could ask.
