What purpose some the iPhone Plus serve? If someone is willing to pay for the Plus they can pay for a Max. There is clearly a market for the Mini and the Plus seems redundant.

The 10-15% weight savings. And most people simply don't need the 5x telephoto since the base camera can already do 2x.

Whilst there is certainly a strong arguement for larger devices ignoring the basics of ergonomics, there is also a reason Apple don't make a 9" Macbook Air.

Customers want bigger screens to get immersed in their favorite apps on the go. It is where the industry is going. It’s staying that way.
Not all customers are the same. I like big screens. My Mac Mini is connected to 2 32" screens. I have a 13" iPad. But my phone is carried around and not for immersion, it is just to keep me connected while away from my big screens. I compromise on screen size for device size with my phone.

The iPhone Minis were out in the period when most people were stuck at home with Covid lockdowns, so it is no surprise they weren't buying pocketable phones then.

It has a bigger screen but it lighter and cost less. Seems simple enough.

I have a 16 Plus, it’s another $300 to get a 16 Pro Max, not worth it for me.

Make iPhones Small Again
Yes!!! Some of us have small hands so the smaller phones work better for me. If they dont bring back smaller iphones then maybe this will encourage them to get started on the talk about them making iphones flip phones as theyve been talking about lately. Rumor has it the iphone flip phones will be coming in late 2026 or early 2027

Modern iPhones are a burden, both physical and ergonomical. iPhone Mini was just the right size and weight so it doesn't pull your shorts down or bulge uncomfortably in your pocket while still being usable one handed. The non-bloated price was just a cherry on top.

Such a shame.

I know the minis didn’t set the world on fire sales-wise but surely it’s worth apples time to sell to a segment of the market equating still to millions of unit sales? Not every SKU can be a best seller.

What’s worse is phones are still creeping up in size. The pro’s went from 6.1 to 6.3 etc making the choices slowly worse over time from a size perspective.

This is really sad. Shame Apple never made a premium smaller iPhone. Still believe people are under the false conclusion that there isn't a market for a small(er) phone because the 12 and 13 mini weren't big sellers. I mean by that logic you could say people don't want larger phones either since the 14/15/16 Plus have not sold well either. The minis weren't be sellers because even people who would prefer a smaller phone value other things MORE (Like battery life, premium cameras, premium materials, better screen technology) and Apple never gave us that option unlike with the Plus where they could also chose (and did) the Pro Max instead. Again I'd like to see Apple try a smaller (but not quite mini) Pro.

More so than the loss of hardware, I'm worried about what this means for software support from third-party developers.

A lot of devs have not been great about taking the time to cater to older phones. So I'm worried we're going to increasingly see apps with half-baked UI layouts that don't really work (e.g. designing for a large screen and then having elements overlapping on a SE due to the lack of screen real estate).

What do the App Store rules say about this kind of thing? How much is Apple's own review process looking into how well an app runs on a deprecated resolution?

All of this! And also the 12/13 Minis were a "thing" during COVID ... the exact time period folks might not be as interested in pocketable/smaller devices. It was also difficult for many to get to stores and try them out then as well.

After living with and using the 13 PM for 3 years (since launch), the 6.1” 16 *is* small IMO - have no problem using my wife’s 16 one-handed vs my 13 PM (which I also tend to drop/fumble a bit more)

I went from a 13 mini to a 16 for better battery life (it's so so so much better) and better camera, but I still dislike the size and I've been having serious pains in my right hand since. I use a PopSocket and it's bad to the point I might have to give the phone up.

Even the 13 mini was too big IMO.
