What purpose some the iPhone Plus serve? If someone is willing to pay for the Plus they can pay for a Max. There is clearly a market for the Mini and the Plus seems redundant.
False. The Mini phones were never bought in large enough numbers to actually make it worthwhile to Apple to keep making them. Even the Zenfone left the small phone era behind, and I don't believe Samsung makes any small phones these days either, even in their various smartphone ranges. Clearly the Plus models sell enough for Apple to keep them around.

I went from a 13 mini to a 16 for better battery life (it's so so so much better) and better camera, but I still dislike the size and I've been having serious pains in my right hand since. I use a PopSocket and it's bad to the point I might have to give the phone up.

Even the 13 mini was too big IMO.
I feel like that's something you should talk to your doctor about rather than blaming the phone. Because I use a 15 Pro Max and even with my relatively small hands I can manage the phone perfectly fine with no pains whatsoever. Granted I use a super nice case with it (no popsocket) but still.

But calling the 13 mini too big when it was 5.4" is an unreasonable claim to make.

If I were you Id file a lawsuit against apple because the phone is causing your hand to hurt

The "most people want large phones" argument is idiotic. Apple current (16) lineup is selection of 5 large phones and 0 small phones. Selection of 4 large phones and 1 small phone would sufficiently accommodate "most people want large phones" while also serving people who want small phones.

Except every single smartphone manufacturer has moved away from small phones due to the fact that there is just not large enough of a market anymore. Nobody's going to manufacture something en-masse just to acommodate a niche segment of the smartphone market.

They could and they originally did, but they were selling in such small quantities compared to the larger ones it wasn't worth Apple's time, money or production lines to keep them going when they could have been producing larger phones that sell in large quantities and clear any backlogs especially early on.

They keep making things bigger ... and only bigger

It's a little hard to have folks speak with their wallet where there are no actual options

We can only guess.

In a real world example: I know a guy who is operating a small phone repair store near my house. He has two iPhone 12 mini that was sitting in his inventory for like half year without anyone want buy it.

The resale value on the mini iPhone is really bad, they go less than $250 in Canada. Given Apple along all the smart phone manufactures are all given up on small phone. And Apple is only one who is able to sell mini phone in volume and with reasonable profit margin. Even Apple can't stop making small phones.

The SE was not a “small phone”, which is why people who ask for small phones don’t buy it. When we say “small”, we mean “small”. Like iPhone 4s was the last phone I could use one handed. Give me an iPhone 4s sized phone, and people who want small phones will buy it.

Small is relative. If you mean a specific size, like a 3.5" screen, do us all the favor and say as much.

13 mini owner here- I replaced my battery earlier this year so I think I'm good for a while sticking with this one. I really can't use a larger phone I tried it and it just isn't for me, but it's fine, none of the new features are that groundbreaking for me.

My hope for an upgrade is this rumored flip phone coming up- then I could have the pocketability of the mini which is really all I care about at this point.

Dammit! I need an SE3 256GB for my MIL. Should have bought it yesterday. She can't remember a password and prefers the button. Is it possible to turn the password completely off on any other iphone?

Apple released the 12 Mini with terrible battery life. So anyone looking to upgrade around then went for the 12/12 Pro instead. It's like Sonos complaining that no-one is buying their speakers at the moment. Release a flawed product, people won't buy them.

My 13 Mini is working fine and I'm planning to hold onto it. I'm hoping Apple come to their senses in time and release a Mini every 3 or 4 update cycles. Would keep everyone happy.

So a company as rich and big as Apple cannot offer a mini phone ? It sold millions before. I've big hands, but I hate bigger phones, iPhone 6 I swapped out for an iPhone SE on released day because I wanted smaller. Just put the latest chip in the same case as the 13 mini and be done, not hard or much to ask.

Looks like I know what I'm gonna buy in a couple of weeks. iPhone 13 mini here I come!

Or I will just keep my iPhone 8 since it's still working.

Now that Apple doesn’t offer a sub 6” phone, I imagine one of the major Android competitors may try to come out with something. Or more small phone offerings from the smaller companies. Hope so anyway.

This is one of those developments that I've just come to accept I'm "out of touch" with the rest of the market. I loved the smaller phones. I hate having to carry around a big, heavy phone. I still have my iPhone 4! And use it as a (severely crippled) music player, and my kids take pics with it. But there's just not enough of "me" out there to justify them making one. Sucks.
