I thought about getting one of the new truly stunning looking MB Pro's, but it should have included Blu-Ray, so no sale.

I thought about getting an iPod classic, but wonder why it doesn't include the previously available 160GB drive, so no sale.

I thought about getting an iPhone 3G, but I'm waiting for at least a 32GB HD - you know, just like the iPod touch has - but apparantly I will wait until after the holidays, so no sale.

I'm just sayin'...

It doesn't include the 160Gb because Steve Jobs said the thicker 160Gb iPod Classics didn't sell as well as the thinner 80Gb Classics. Therefore he concludes that consumers prefer thin iPods.

Other main reasons: Election, economy, the dawn of a new era?

A few days ago I started reading up on MacRumors as I searched for info to help me decide betw iMac/Mac Pro. I am looking to buy a new machine as I transition to CS4 and doing more graphics and video edition.

This forum has tremendously helpful "insider's scoop" and I'm now leaning towards a Mac Pro. But the wait for Mac Pro Gen 3 is going to be quite frustrating, to say the least.

Why the wait? Well, besides the need for Intel to churn out the Nehalem chips in Q1 2009 and giving Apple time to get rid of the possibly overstocked old technologies, the current social conditions seems to favor a later update.

One has to remember that Apple is backed not only by cutting-edge tech and supposed creativity, but also by pop-culture. The "alternativeness" initially of Starbucks quickly became part of the mainstream to such an extreme that even my neighborhood Vons has one. And look at what damage going mainstream mindlessly has cost Starbucks--now home to corporate fast-shots (as opposed to fast-foods).

In the post-Bush era, how will Apple capture the the users' imagination? Will Apple continue to sacrifice its more "elite" pro and prosumer base to move towards the dumb and dumber phenomenon shown in the movie "Idiocracy" (in which the seemingly least informed folks propagate the larger population)? Or comes January 2009, will we see Apple going back to its roots of being inspiring?

Be warned, Steve, Dell and others are perfectly happy to trade places with Apple, or what used to be Apple.

If I remember correctly, Apple usually updates their Mac Pros at Macworld, and updates their iMacs some time in the spring. I don't expect new iMacs until around April 2009. :)

The Mac mini can recognize 3GB of memory. You can get 2GB modules from Other World Computing.

People buying Mac mini's are mostly only reading e-mail and visiting web sites. Not high end gaming. The graphics are more than enough.

Thats quite true. I'm using my Mac mini for everyday DTP and illustration work. It already payed x-times back the money, that I have invested into it.

A nice little machine.

My only wish for the updated Mac mini would be:

1.) i would need a real phisycal second monitor output, aka a second DVI (right now using a Mactastic USB 2.0 to DVI external solution, alias a DisplayLink adapter, but it is slow, for anything serious, that moves). Anyway, for showing Photoshop palettes it is great

2.) an eSATA or simple SATA conector for external SATA enclosures/HDDs.

3.) also, keep the Firewire

Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic

Apple can't delivery products they have already advertised. The Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic were part of the IPOD update, and of today have still not been seen in the wild!

Come on apple, what going on

Anyone heard a release date for these?

Listen we need to stop using the OS as an excuse. We are comparing hardware here not software, and Apple is being cheap with us.

Its the only excuse they have. I wouldn't say they're being cheap as performance and usability are very secondary to aesthetic considerations.

Perhaps they are exiting the traditional "desktop" market altogether.

They have. That's why many Mac users have been calling for Mac OS X options other than Apple. It's very clear that Apple is no longer interested in meeting their needs, but they have too much of an investment in the platform to switch. It's either hardware well over their needs and budget (Mac Pro) or hardware that is far below their needs like the iMac I'm typing this on.

This.

I wanted the new in ear headphones for my holiday (vacation). It is disappointing to get told October and have that month come and go with no release.

...not to mention that multitasking in Windows is an utter crap when compared to OS X, be it under XP or Vista.

Windows 7 to scale to 256 processors  See the image for a screenshot of Task Manager showing 256 CPUs (the system has 1024 GiB of RAM - 4 GiB per processor).

Seems that the current 64 processor support was becoming a restriction...

On the other hand, OSX doesn't get much use with more than 8 CPUs.

That's Mr. Shaw, the most competent Windows fanboy troll on MR...

Why, thank you ;)

The two Mac Pros to date have not been updated at MWSF. The only spring iMac update in recent years was the current one.

I don't expect new iMacs until around April 2009.
Therefore, I expect new iMacs as post-Macworld releases at maybe January/February 2009.

(Unless I choose to be hopelessly optimistic and say Apple is trying to throw us off from an impending update.)

... and what about this:

http://www.macworld.co.uk/mac/news/index.cfm?RSS&NewsID=23219 :

"It [an updated range of iMacs] may also be necessary if Apple
is to fulfil its promise to eliminate polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
and brominated flame retardants (BFRs) from all Apple
products by the end of 2008."

???
Could that be fulfilled by a silent change of material (without changing any specs or anything) for the iMacs?

LAME. I was really hoping to get a new 24" iMac this month.

Apple is really letting their machines ferment too long - I would like to see them make some attempt at parity with the PC world for crying out loud.

Perhaps it's time to build my own Mac?
Dude there is 2 months before January, why the heck would they update their products now, when they have an event coming up in January?

I laugh at some the responses in this thread. Especially this guy...

Come on dude...the current imac is only 7 months old. Technology hasnt surpassed this machine enough to warrant an update. The Mini, I will give you that one. The Pro, however again is sufficient enough to do the task at hand. Most people buying a Pro dont go out and jump on the bandwagon buying a new machine every update. Apple knows this. They buy them for the long haul. So naturally the updates would be further in between.

Im glad they came out with this. I was tired of all the speculation threads about new imacs in November....give me a break. The Economy is downturning. EVERYONE is cutting back. No one is going to be "keeping up with the Joneses" in this economy. Besides, you would be complaining had you already bought a mac saying, "Ive only had my mac for xx amount of months and its already being updated?" Please:rolleyes: Apple cant make everyone happy all the time.

They have given you the green light to either wait for Macworld, or to go ahead and purchase the mac. I know the majority of you will wait, but the average consumer doesnt care about the up to date specs. So go out and enjoy waiting for macworld, or enjoy your new mac!
Couldn't have put it better.

As will I.

Well I'll be glad to recommend. :p

except for this AIO with a quad core CPU....

Is that a tv from Dell? :p

If true, the output of new products by Apple is quite poor this year:

- A updated iPhone (OK, 3G is cool, but the first iPhone should not have been EDGE in the first place)
- Some iPod updates (not impressive)
- New laptops (wow, a uni-case... pfffff! Sure they look good, but not a mind blowing / highly innovative update. Hardware specs are good though)
- What am I missing?

But...
- No Mac Mini update (it's like a small PC fitted with a 386 architecture, so obsolete)
- No Mac Pro update for a while
- No new Cinema display's (not counting the new display you can hook up to the new Macbooks)
- No other (innovative) Mac (tablet, return of the cube, midi, etc.)
- Feel free to add bullets here...

And...
- .Me still isn't what it should be
- Still no basic cut & paste functionality in iPhone 2.1
- No sync of notes in iPhone 2.1 (what's the use of the App??)
- No ToDo apps and syncing (iCal via .Me) in iPhone 2.1
- Free feel to add some missing .Me / iPhone functionality / Apps here...

*sigh*

All in all a dissapointing year. If Apple would not have produced the 3G iPhone this year, it would be the first year without a purchase for me in a while.

Man if some of you guys ran Apple you would run it into the ground, it's just absurd that you want them to release all that stuff in one year, don't you know anything about leaving something so that you can entice more buyers to buy your stuff, do you know how businesses work? :p

Because most buys are smart enough to know that its old hardware.
Yeah but they might only be looking at the price relative to the cost of Apple's other offerings.

Apple needs to stop giving outdated hardware - its ridiculous especially for the prices we are paying. I don't mind paying a heavy price but give us what we deserve.
Show us all the outdated hardware they have with the exception of the Mini?

Jobs has basically said F--- all of you! I said it last month, he has become very cocky and arrogant when it comes to the little guy on a budget. What ever new Mini comes out will not be sold for under $899 so yeah he might grant your wish at Mac World but he is going to bend you over with the price.

Its not the same Apple that we once knew and loved.
Apple is not for those on a budget, they never were and they never will be, if you're on a budget go look here: www.dell.com.

so there wont be any imac new products in november
sad well i guess i will have decide on current choices
thanks for info guys

Sadly it looks like Apple is leaving education as well. Your post seems to remind me of two other ones though. I've already told the switchers I know to not buy any Apple hardware this Christmas.

Right and I'll say it again, Apple is not for those on a budget, their computers are expensive compared to others. If you don't have money for their computers don't buy them or you can save up for it. No one is entitled to own a Mac, there are people around the world who can't even afford 1 square meal to eat each day and yet people complain about prices of computers they feel they are entitled to.

This is the same line of reasoning the Psystar guys have, they feel that Apple products cost to much, therefore they should be able to determine how much they cost, what sort of joke is that. I mean go and check out Sony with their 4000 dollar computers but I don't hear anyone complaining about that. Apple cannot compete with every PC manufacturer out there on price, they have never competed on price and they never will. There are many things in life that I want but since I don't have the money for it, I don't bother. I have owned many computers from Dell to HP and I buy on what I value with my money. That's what you should be doing too. If you don't feel Apple is good value for your money you buy something else but just don't expect Apple to lower their prices because you can't afford it. I'll like a Bentley but guess what I'm stuck with a Honda. Should Bentley lower their prices because I can't afford it. ;)

I hope you learned something in the nearly 30 minutes you spent on that post.

That was exactly the kind of thinking that kept Macs at a whole 4% of the market and prevented them from making money. Apple is not some kind of service for those who want to trick themselves that they're better than everyone else, they're a business and as a business their goal is to make money. The education market makes money for Apple. If the lower end users and educations users aren't there, they loose revenue.

Are they not making money with their current business plan, I mean look at Dell who are direct competitors with Apple, since they cater to those on a object, look what's happening to them these days, last I heard they were asking employees to take unpaid leave, Apple is doing just fine with their current model, they may not be overtaking Windows in terms of marketshare anytime soon but they are making money.

Apple makes money and Microsoft keeps it marketshare. All is right in the world.

The majority of Mac sales are MacBooks sold to indviduals and schools aka the ones you want to get rid of.

Sorry if this has already been stated previously as there are many replies. The first thing that came to mind when I saw this headline was that is a carefully worded statement.

"No new products"

Is this equivalent to:

"No new products or updates to existing products"

I do not think this excludes updates to existing products but maybe I am just living in denial (not de Nile, which is a river in Egypt).

I'd assume it does. It wouldn't make sense for Apple to start using cryptic messages like that, forcing consumers to parse through semantics to figure out whether "no new products" means anything but what it sounds like: nothing new before Christmas.

People on this forum that are trying to interpret that comment to mean updates are still possible are grasping at straws. Let it go. Wait until January . . .

Lol, that sounds easy. I decided today I'm gonna try. Toghether, with a friend, drinking beer, making a lot of music and work like hell to make a lot of money..

But it will be hard :D

I wish they came monday!
