Sorry if this has already been stated previously as there are many replies. The first thing that came to mind when I saw this headline was that is a carefully worded statement.

"No new products"

Is this equivalent to:

"No new products or updates to existing products"

I do not think this excludes updates to existing products but maybe I am just living in denial (not de Nile, which is a river in Egypt).

Whatever about it, I think he has a point here though. I just read it again, and it more sounds like really ''no new products'' as in ''not releasing new Mac Mini'' and not like ''not putting more RAM in iMac'' for example.

I also read iMac may not be updated till april? Is that true? I can't wait even longer! January already is a challenge for me!

April would be a little bit too long, but this is Apple we're talking about. Just look at the mini.

everytime Apple comes out with something, i hardly ever buy it because, i think "oh they'll come out with a better cheaper one" but now i have to wait until next January for their new products to come out.:apple:

I reread the quote and it looks like not even updates will happen. The article title, though, seems to say no actual new products.

Where did you read that from? Because I'm sure it'll be updated on February or earlier.

April was mentioned a few times in that other thread here in the forum.

11 reasons for 11/10/08

Hey,

I still think we could get an iMac Update tomorrow as there are several clues one could interprete as pointing towards it.

1. November 10th was somehow announced - maybe some truth in it?
2. Hardware Updates were not expecially denied by Apple
3. the iMac is just 16 days away from the average update cycle (see buyers guide) -> Update in January would be ~60 days overdue
4. Apple states that there are i.e. still some Polyvinylchloride (PVC) parts in the iMac -> Apple promised to remove all parts containing PVC until the end of 2008
5. There are only three 20" 2.66 GHz iMacs and only one 24" 2,8 GHz iMac left in stock at Amazon Germany -> stocks running short were an indicator for an update last time.
6. Back-to-school initiative was used to get rid of old Macbooks (already updated) and iMacs which are going to be replaced
7. Some german price comparison sites show dropping prices for the iMac -> Resellers want to get rid of old models before update
8. Another theory about the latest vague press statement by apple about the product line being complete until 2009 -> It could be a strategy to sell more old iMacs because no one (well, only idiots) would still buy old ones when an update is straight ahead
9. November 10th 2008 is the 25th anniversary of Microsoft Windows -> would be ironical to release a new/updated product
10. Last hardware update was also on a monday
11. November is not too late for Apple as they already updated the iMac once in November 2003

So let's be optimistic! :D

Long time lurker and now first poster. I really hope you're right. Finally saved up enough money for one and this update delay is killing me! What to do. If you're right, I'll be a happy chappy tomorrow. If not...well I guess I'll still be happy knowing that an iMac will be mine sometime in the next few months...hopefully!

Same here.
The only thing i'm really waiting for is a new graphics card because I would like to use the iMac for gaming aswell. (8800 GS is fine for recent games on mid-high configuration but i'd like to run them on high in a native resolution and therefore a Geforce 9800 would be great maybe for 1-2 years to come)

April was mentioned a few times in that other thread here in the forum.
Why are you so sure it'll be updated on February or earlier?
There are many reasons why.
  1. iMacs haven't gone a year without updates for quite a while. The only two that have come close (11 months) were in 2004 and 2007 when the case was redesigned. That's not happening this time.
  2. There are new CPUs coming in Q1 2009, a 133 MHz bump as well as a quad-core. Apple could update then (with or without quad-cores). There's another bump in April (so April is probably too early), but that's also 133 MHz.
  3. It looks like the Q1 bump is more comprehensive (4 CPUs) than the April one (2 CPUs). So it may make more sense to update it in Q1 instead of Q2.
  4. The current iMac update happened a few months before Montevina. So the next iMac update may happen a few months before the Montevina refresh.
  5. February would be nicely in between MWSF and a notebook update in May or so (that update would be 7 months after the last update, which is reasonable).
And no, neither February nor April has any rumors backing it. So it's all in the air as of now.

I wonder myself, why do so many people think April?

Hihi Macpeople!!... I'm new here :)

May i know when will apple release non-gloss Macbook?...

thanks

... hope diminishes ...
Which time do they usually present things?

Well, still tomorrow to hope for.

BTW - recent iMac stocks at Amazon.de (Germany, see previous posting):

20" 2.4 GHz - 1 left
20" 2.66 GHz - 2 left
24" 2.8 GHz - Out of stock (well, 3rd party resellers only)

Today would be great though. Well it's still 9:33 AM in Cupertino.

Also... have a look at the Buyer's Guide:

I added some red lines to support my theory:
Can't you see some continuity in there? It's like a curve!
descending and ascending times from release to release..
The moon seems to be waning ;)
Next update could already be overdue and after this update another one could follow just 3 months later.

Does anyone know if apple will announce another new iphone next year?

Is there any news about iphone?--Is it possible that another new iphone will come out next year? I just dont want the thing happen like buying an iphone 3G now but after a couple of months there is another new iphone come out.

seems like ipod fad is over (or at least majorly slowing)...

iphone still has another few products coming out...

then they need something big as a new product....

come on JOBS!

Its far from over. iPod is king in the MP3 player world.

Remember, Apple owns over 70% of the portable music player market even with the higher pricing of the iPod nano models. If Apple could lower the price of the 8 GB and 16 GB nano (4G) by just US$25 they would literally clean up the market, in my humble opinion. :)

conference call

I may be mistaken, but in one of the recent conference calls didn't Jobs say there would be 'brand new' products introduced at the end of the year, or possibly the beginning of 2009?
