What the hell are you talking about. The rules are in place way before Apple wanted to open stores in India. Stop acting like Apple is the victim here. Its called respecting law of the land. You want to earn huge profits but don't want to comply with the rules?

And you evade. I will ask you again. By what means does this government prevent Apple from opening these stores? By the initiation of Reason? Or by the initiation of Force?

Congratulations to India for looking out for their own people first. I bet that they don't have a 24 Trillion deficit like we do in the US. Trump will stop the US sucker insanity!

Trump is a psuedo-fascist who will do nothing good to help the US. He does not care about the common people. He wants to cut taxes on billionaires like himself, censor the internet, legalize torture, cut education, he denies climate change, and so on.

Guess Apple forgot to grease the palms of those making decisions in the Ministry of Finance.

Yes a job is a job. But at some point quality of job enters the picture. 20 new apple store employees < say 20 new mechanics/hvac techs alone to keep facility up and running. India is gunning for the latter. It could pay out better long term.
More importantly, you're not looking at the effects on other businesses. If Apple were to place a store down, how many local stores would have to close and how many local employees would lose their jobs because their own smaller business has lost their market niche? That number isn't zero, and theres a good chance its higher than the number of employees Apple ends up hiring.

Not only that - you have to realise that the Apple Store would extracts money out of the local economy, while local businesses keeps more money in the local economy.

So...the jobs weren't enough then I gather?

Odd question maybe, why does apple want to skip 3rd party stores so bad here? And not in say South Korea where they seem to have no issues staying 3rd party. Korea only has 3rd party stores. IIRC its apple policy making that not happen. For odd reasons they won't open a store there.

Based 3rd party stores I saw like Frisbee...if apple gave in a little an apple store or 2 might do very well there.

Samsung and Google have more jobs in India then Apple would have even after opening the new centres. So that would not be a workable strategy to bend rules. Only option for Apple is if rules are tweaked for all or if Apple manufactures locally some of its stuff.

India the country that gives a free pass to outside tech companies when most of it's populous don't have running water, electricity or healthcare basics. People in india are worthless in the governments eyes. Apple gets refused only because indians love a good queue.

As consumers, are we prepared to pay the arguably higher prices that will automatically entail local manufacturing ?

Do we support our own local communities or just wish for cheaper prices ?

Do we vote with our wallets or let empty jingoism and rhetoric rule the day ?

Some of the considerations for living in a globalised economy.

Cheers !

Maybe he got the 256 GB instead of the 512 GB gold Macbook that he wanted ! ;-)

It's more to do with an equal playing fields for all markets... its pure protectionism by india.
What would be the result if the rest of the world forced the same rules on india?

I find it wrong, and distasteful..

But apple don't make t-shirts or jeans, how can they manufacture anything in indian?

Dell could open 30 million stores in Indian because 100% of their customer support are located in India

Nice. Trivialising a major issue that affects women, everyday, in that country. Full points for sensitivity analysis !

Cheers !

What - as trivial as putting buttons on buses and phones? Don't worry! - simply press the button if you get raped - problem solved!

Me thinks you are missing the point.

And there is nothing 'trivial' about rape of ANY gender - less sexism please.

Can you imagine if the most desirable country in which to market anything had such laws?

But yes, much better to drive that country's masses to compete in the "cheapest labor" race. That will certainly end well. Let them eat cake.
How much money do you think Apple Store employees make? A retail store is cheap labor.

Hey people,
Smartphone market is peaking and Apple's hopes for MORE growth hinge on emerging markets such as India and the overheating China economy. That's why Cook is busy kissing butts down there. Apple needs India more than India needs Apple so expect more of this
