BS. If their people want to buy Apple products, there is no moral case to be made to deny it to them by the guns of an oppressive government.

Trump would love this dump.
The people of India can already buy Apple products from resellers in India.
What objectives does it suit? Certainly those of the people who just want to be able to buy Apple products.
Did you even read the post? -- "30 percent of goods sold by foreign companies must be manufactured or produced in the country"
The guess is the Government of India wants manufacturing jobs for the people of India.

These kind of politics are why I would never want to be CEO of a major multinational company.

Why wouldn't you?

There's no requirement that you need to be good at your job. And if you fail, you'll get your million dollar golden parachute on top of your million dollar annual salary (see: Ron Johnson, Carly Fiorina, Leo, Apotheker,.... Marissa Mayer's next.)

but the ministry of finance has decided Apple's products do not fall into the cutting-edge technology category

if that isn't a slap in the face, I don't know what is
The truth lol

Imagine if in the U.S. every retailer had to sell 30% of Made in U.S.A. products... that would be something. I remember when the "made in the U.S.A." was like... wow!!!! take my money!!!

If they want to be douchebags then Apple should too and cancel the Maps Development Center.

Sure, when someone (in this case, India) is looking to make a deal that's in their best interest, they're douchebags.

When Apple wants to make a deal that's in their best interest (GT Advanced Technologies, Foxconn, etc.), people applaud Apple or make statements like, "If you don't like the terms, then don't sign the agreement."

And FYI, Apple needs India to grow their sales. There's not much growth potential left in the U.S. and Europe. Tim Cook will figure out a way to make the deal.

Did you even read the news as you're clearly missing the point. Apple products are available in India for years. It's about the Apple Store.

Or just pay out the lobbies to kill the problem.

Lobbying isn't allowed by law in India.
"The waiver is available only for investment in "state of the art" or "cutting-edge technology", he added."

Looks like someone forgot to do the needful to the right person. Bummer.

It's hard to tell what cutting edge in India means. Running water and toilets? Air conditioning?

Cutting edge technology means successful and very competitive space program, not the 5400 RPM hard drive in iMac and 16 GB storage in iPhone or lack of copy paste in Calendar in iOS.

I'm certain Apple employs a large number of Indian employees and contractors, not only in America, but also remotely sourced from India.

Shouldn't that apply towards the 30% locally sourced?

They are not making a moral case. This is a financial case by the finance ministry. India is not going to let an american company set up shop sell china manufactured products to India and take all the profit overseas(To Ireland?)

If Donald Trump is the badass he says he is, he should embargo India for this.

But he's not going to be President, according to the latest pools.
