BS. If their people want to buy Apple products, there is no moral case to be made to deny it to them by the guns of an oppressive government.

Trump would love this dump.
Oh please. A government's job is to ensure local industry gets priority. India is by no means forced to let an international company move in if it refuses to play by INDIA'S rules.

True, but those air miles...
Wouldn't be surprised if Tim and company flew in and out via international charter. They are damn pricey but you are practically in a flying hotel with the space you have instead of rows and rows of seats. While Apple does have their own corporate jets, taking them that far is not practical.

They can buy Apple products. Just not through Apples own retail store. Again, there is nothing wrong with the 30% clause. It's the duty of the government to make sure there is something in the deal for the country as well.

16 GB base storage on iPhones, lack of 4K support on Apple TV, and a Mac Pro that hasn't been updated since 2013. I wouldn't call that cutting-edge either to be honest.

Errr, I think you'll find Apples products to be completely cutting edge. Lest we forget that there was the, umm, oh or the ahhh, hhmmmm.

Well, they just are, I don't need to justify it, do your own legwork :p

Don't forget 5400 rpm hard drives...
This is soo funny as it's soo true.

IPS screens also

However you look at it, Apple always trails in most tech as they have to wait for others to make it for them.

Now if they invented, designed and built their own brand new tech of course it would be different.
But that's not apple.

Well, that opens the door for Samsung and Google to open stores in the country. Sorry Apple.

Hmm… If Apple can't meet the 'sell 30% local produced products' rule, exactly what products you are thinking of that Samsung and Google will sell in their stores that can?

India really is putting Apple under the pump. Good on India for trying to negotiate a deal that suits their country's own objectives instead of simply accepting another corporation setting up shop, using the workers only to then move on with little benefit to the country. Play hard ball, India.

The ruling class in India couldn't care less about the average worker. The country is filled with corruption at every level. I think what this finance ministry really wants is just some payola.

Interesting I thought that was the point of the visit - 100 of stores would equal thousands of construction and full time jobs. Would this be consider equal trade or am I missing something?

I thought Tim made a deal with Indian politicians, that Map data center is counted as domestic parts cost against the revenue from Apple retail stores.

I don't know about you but when I think of India, I think cutting edge...
Said no one ever...

That's because no one reports about the R and D centers that Boeing, Mercedez-Benz, Rolls Royce, GE, Microsoft and a lot of companies that make cutting edge products have in India. But poverty and corruption? Yeah let's report about that because that's what sells about India. And some people are ignorant to believe that that's all there is to that country. Stop being naive an start to believe that cutting edge work happens in third world countries also.

100s of stores? I don't see Apple opening more than 15 stores in the country... Construction jobs are temporary. And retail store job is hardly a permanent job that changes lives of people.

Not sure on Google, but Samsung already manufactures in India since about 20 years, follows the rule.

No wonder they were one of the first ones to have objected preferential treatment to Apple.

Congratulations to India for looking out for their own people first. I bet that they don't have a 24 Trillion deficit like we do in the US. Trump will stop the US sucker insanity!
Now imagine 30% Made in USA for all retail American store. Big Box stores such as Home Depot and WalMart would be totally broadsided by this policy.
