What about app purchases, etc.? Are Apple refuding those too when you return your phone? You suggest it's as simple as returning the device and buying something else, which isn't true at all, because people have invested money into the platform, which Apple have now made unusable for them. For taking it back and getting a refund to be viable, Apple would need to refund ALL costs involved, not just the price of the hardware. Alternatively, they need to fix their product.

If you are a new customer, I'll bet that you can get most of those purchases refunded if you play your cards right. If you are an old customer, you can go back to your old iPhone. You could also downgrade to the 3GS.

This argument has been addressed in mire detail in earlier posts.

And if those speakers claim to produce a "full spectrum" of sound than you have every right to demand Sony fix them. As a consumer who recently bought a product which is still under warranty, I have every right to demand that Apple fix my phone. I have absolutely no rights in regards to anything else, but I do have that one.

For me it is a blatant problem. The bumper case (for an extra $30) has completely fixed my problem. However, without it, I was unable to reliably make phone calls no matter which way I held it. I could use two fingers to hold the phone on each side and still I would drop calls.

Someone should do a study on who has this issue and where they are generally located. You say no one you know has this defect, but literally every person I know who has an iPhone 4, can easily reproduce the error.

Edit: I'm in Philadelphia

I may have the "right" to demand it, but why would I waste my time? I can write letters to Sony and complain on the Internet, but in the end is Sony going to change the design if their speakers? No, they will tell me to do the logical and reasonable thing: Return it if I'm dissatisfied.

And what about if you've sold your 3GS? A lot of people will have sold their devices in advance with the reasonable expectation that Apple would make a device that worked properly. Having to re-purchase a 3GS to get a device that works properly has a good chance to mean these people will be out of pocket since they won't just be able to get their old 3GS back. It's a real slap in the face for the enthusiastic customers who make Apple what it is; they have been let down badly by this.

The bitching and moaning on this issue has become a joke. Nobody is forcing you to keep your iPhone. If it doesn't meet your needs get a different phone.

I suppose your bitching and moaning is somehow in a different class. Well, nobody is forcing you to keep coming to this forum. If it doesn't meet your needs, find a different forum where everyone thinks like you.

I assume you had a previous iPhone and did not buy a bunch of apps with a new iPhone 4. Since the phone has never worked for you, it would be weird to rush out and buy a ton of apps.

So you sold off your old phone then? Even before you knew your new phone was going to be to your liking?

Seems like a risk you took, and one you are responsible for... You have to deal with the consequences yourself. The fact that you own a bunch of apps is irrelevant. Apple owes you nothing more than refund on your iPhone 4.

Why would anyone rush out and spend a bunch of money on apps for a phone that never worked for them? That seems crazy.

I have owned every iPhone since the release in 2007(hence all the apps I have) and I have had no problems until now. No I have not sold my 3GS and can still use it, but to me that is not the point. Why would I have to revert to my "old" technology when according to Mr. Jobs my "new" technology is supposed to be a lot better and faster. I shouldnt have to just accept the whole "put a bumper on it" decision and settle for second best. I think apple customers deserve better than that !

Nah, Steve Jobs is going to announce that there is no reception issue with the iPhone 4.

The issue is caused by a 1D-10-T error which will vary from user to user.

stupid theory no. 1,000,000: Apple sidesteps iPhone 4 issue and re-instates 3GS in 16 and 32 gig models with retina display and updated camera. Got a problem? buy the old one!

With no evidence, but pure speculation, I believe this press conference will address the iPhone 4 signal issue (refund <30days or product repair only), but also state there will be a delay in delivering the Next Round of International iPhone 4 Releases until August.

If you sold it in advance, well that was a risk you took. Bottom line? This phone works perfectly for a majority of customers. They may even have a fix for those that have problems. If the fix isn't to your liking then maybe it's time for you to abandon Apple as they obviously don't meet your needs. Sorry, but those are all risks you take when you "invest" in any platform.

Ms Puddinman, yes I agree with you the phone works perfectly for everyone i know. Bottom line, yeah i know about that.

Interesting how i was saying in another post that ms. verizon will brick jailbroken Droid X, so your phone becomes a brick, of course till you call them and plead your case. Apple wouldn't do that.

So if others want to go to ms. verizon, and use ms. google's first gen windows-mobile like product, go ahead.

I'm happy with mines. I talked and hold it any way I want. I use any thing I want with the phone, and it works!

I just hope ms. jobs reads thoose reporters for days. I'll be very happy. :) He's fierce.

I havent seen any problems with my phone. Once I recieved it in the mail, I activated it and it has been smooth sailing since. I had a 3G and this phone is leaps and bounds better!!!!!:D

Actually, used 3GS prices have been dropping the past couple months (because of the vast demand for i4s), so the sell-and-rebuy arbitrage may actually make money for the people who do that with the right timing.

At this point with the antenna & proximity sensor issue a recall is not unlikely. I know Steve Jobs is agonizing over this right now, but they should do the RIGHT thing and recall.
