Hasn't been hacked yet, and amex does a great job at monitoring my activity, to the point where they're very proactive. Again, its easier how much more risk is there

As I mentioned above, it was the retailer that was hacked, not me, not my credit card company, and not my bank.

I didn't have any false purchases or money stolen from my account personally. But my credit card number was a number reported by the retailer as one that was stolen. So my bank informed me, cancelled my cards, and I had to get new ones. Plus anyplace like Amazon or Auto Pay that used that credit card number also needed to be updated.

So even if you don't lose money by a credit card hack it can still be PITA.

Dude, if you see that logo, Apple Pay WILL MOST LIKELY WORK, even if there's no Apple Pay sticker in sight. If it doesn't work, then it means that they forgot to enable NFC.

Just had too many bad experiences. I'm going to wait until I see other people using it frequently before I bother with it.

That's how I switched to using my phone for airline tickets; once I saw multiple people per flight using it then I knew it worked smoothly. That took a couple of years too.

We're not there yet with Apple Pay. Over the last 2 years I've seen other people use it 3 or 4 times, total.

What if you use your wallet or purse? What would be the future payment system? Fingerprint? What if you lose your fingers? Retina scan? What if you lose your eyes? So many questions. I can't wait for the future you imagine.
I've broken a phone and lost a credit card on vacation. It's much easier to get a replacement credit card. Did a good job going from the ridiculous to the sublime.

I have heard that in most places in Western Europe you only need to hold your card near a pay terminal and not insert it into that terminal, is that true?
Yes, it is. In practical terms you slap your card against the terminal for one second or something, a few green LEDs blink (on the terminal) and you are done.
If the amount is over some limit (20€) the terminal will ask for your PIN.

I use Apple Pay extensively in the UK but unfortunately it is up against a very easy contactless card system that is well established here. This is also very easy so a lot of consumers can't see the point in Apple Pay as a result.

Contactless payment is not the future; lose your iPhone and without credit cards, you are stranded.

It's much easier to whip out a credit card.

Having said that I use Apple Pay at times.

Good point. But loss of a credit card while traveling is no easy matter either. It's happened to me. But you make a valid point that it would be a pain. However most people carry their credit cards and ID with them. (try losing your driver license while flying sometime if you want ot know about pain). So lose your phone hopefully you still have your wallet/purse with your CC's. I think Apple Pay wins for ease of use and security. Taking out your wallet, finding the right card, ETC vs. take out the phone and use your thumb print. As our phones carry more and more info, losing it on a trip becomes a much bigger issue not just because of your CC's on it. I have trip itinerary numbers, airplane tickets, rental card codes and of course my contacts. So losing the phone destroys way more than your ability to use your CC.

In their advertising, they should focus on one word: "SECURITY".

Security is why I put my wallet back in my pocket and pay with my Apple Watch whenever I realize that a business supports Apple Pay. Each transaction generates a unique one-time code, protecting your actual card number from prying eyes and any spyware that might have made its way onto the retailer's computer network.

If they can convince iPhone owners that Apple Pay is more secure than a traditional card, even with a chip, then maybe consumers will go through the trouble to get comfortable with that form of payment, use it whenever it is available, and start demanding it at more stores.

And why not whip out a card and use it contactless?

And Eastern Europe. Up to a small-ish amount (i think $25 here) you don't need to enter your PIN either. Larger than that, it still asks for the PIN.
Data point: even my credit cards have PIN codes, it's not like in the US.

Even if more retailers accept it, most consumers don't know a damn thing about it. Most of my friends and family don't use it for that reason - and many of them are at least somewhat technically literate. Apple needs to spend a little time on a consumer focused campaign.

Until I don't have to hand the waiter/waitress my credit card and watch them disappear with it for 5-10 minutes, I don't think Apple Pay does much to protect me. When at a register, I can watch the clerk take my card and swipe it and hand it back. What I can't see is what the minimum wage restaurant worker is doing with my card when they disappear with it. Some restaurants have terminals at the tables, but that is about 1 in a 100 (or fewer!).

I use it were I can, and its a deciding factor in where I shop, within reason.
Nowadays, whenever I'm in a retailer who has any POS system that looks remotely up-to-date, I ask if they have AP. It's not a deciding factor, per se, for me, but increasingly important. I feel like adoption will increase if customers continue to ask for it.

I don't use it, mostly because it tends to be easier to use my credit card.
No way! My mileage varies from yours.

Educating? What's so stinkin' hard about about placing your finger on the home button and touching your phone to a payment terminal?

Now marketing is a different story. If 60% of the population is clueless, I guess it's time to make some commercials. And, and, put more effort into retail partners.

I love using Apple Pay. I get ticked off when a retailer still doesn't have a contactless pay terminal installed. Like, really?!?! Holy ****, it's 2017!

Wish they would go ahead and roll it out for all of Europe. We're supposed to have a single market by now, I don't understand why they roll it out to France and Spain but not Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, ...?

I use it a lot. I wish more places would take it. I'm interested in seeing how a casual restaurant will have their server bring over some device so I can use Apple Pay.

What is the future then? Retina scanning? Lose your eyes and you're buggered? :D

IMO, something like Amazon Go is likely what's going to happen.

It's basically win/win for consumers and retailers. The former because they don't have to wait in lines (saving even more time than NFC would) and the latter because they don't need nearly as many employees to staff a store.

It used to work at Stater Brothers but they did some kind of update to their POS POS and now everytime I try it pops up asking for a 10-digit code and they have to reset the scanner.

I went to one recently that uses the chip and Apple Pay worked fine. Granted, I used a credit card there and not a debit card.

Security doesn't matter (much) to most people in a country where banks reimburse for fraud, no questions asked. I'm not sure this is the right approach to take here.

I am all for using Apple Pay, if only my bank had supported it! The middle-service solutions, like boon, etc. seem a bit awkward for what it's worth.

Use credit card is simple and secure enough to use in countries in like US and EU

QR code is cost effective to be adopt by merchant for countries like China and India

Apple pay is no go

Until the ridiculous £30 limit is removed here in the UK, I will always feel a need to have my card on me. When I have a card on me, I end up using it instead of Apple Pay, even though I really like Apple Pay.

Remove that limit, though, and I'd use Apple Pay for everything, and eventually just leave my debit card at home.

Lol...Checks haven't gone away, but now with my banking app I can scan them in. Credit cards aren't going away either.

And as @maflynn said above, it's easier to use my credit card than take out my phone fro my pocket. Ymmv on all these points.

You should chat to the Apple Watch naysayers, who will tell you taking your phone out of your pocket isn't a big deal. ;)

I think the biggest issue is just retailers not advertising that they take NFC. I use NFC wherever I can because I like Android Pay, it's fast and easy, but I also assume that anywhere I see the NFC logo I can use it.

I use it every time I go to Wegmans and Shop Rite, as well as my local Ace Hardware. The only store with NFC that gives me issues is my local Rite Aid, but "NFC not working" is barely on my list of reasons my local Rite Aid is a ********.

Used it in the beginning, some times it would work others it would not. Just easier to pull out CC and slide it into a machine. Another feature that is kind of useless. Well, I do like that I can use "Apple Pay" in the Apple store app and other apps as well, so that's cool, but I don't shop that often on my iPhone.

Well, Bank of America and Wells Fargo are rolling out NFC-enabled ATMs. That's how you can use Apple Pay AND can still get cash.

And we go back to my point... With the simple plastic card you can Use ANY ATM. You think the garbage 3rd party ATM inside Amadeus pizza in hells kitchen will get apple pay NFC anytime soon? Who has the time to go hunt down an NFC enabled BA/WF ATM just so they can use ApplePay. People use what is in front of them. And 10/10 times it will be compatible with the little 3.5x2 inch plastic rectangle.

Only time i use apple pay now is on Seamless on my ipad... Out on the street is just easier to keep using my card with the chip.
