Hi,

I am new to your awesome mac forum and have a few questions.

I am converting from a PC to a Mac!!! Yeah!

I have been waiting patiently for the new macbooks to arrive so I can decide between purchasing the current macbook or the new one.

I have a few questions for all you knowledgeable Mac users.

1. How soon will the new models be available to test and buy in stores after the press release tomorrow?

2. What do they do with the old models? Do they still have them available at a discount? How much of a discount would you expect?

3. I am not a gamer and I don't use video- I will use this for blogging, writing, picture and file storage, photo editing and heavy internet usage. My current Dell desktop is 1.0Ghz/1GB/160GB and seems to work fine for what I need. I want speed, and the ability to have several applications open and running at once. Would you recommend that I stick to buying the current macbook version 2.4 Ghz/2GB/250GB at full price, waiting to see if I can buy said model at a discount after the new ones are released or is there something miraculous expected in the new upgrade that would affect me so that I should wait to buy the new model?

Sheesh. I know that is alot, but I'd appreciate any help!

And you can bet I'll be following you on twitter tomorrow to see all the fuss:D
If you don't care too much about what is added tomorrow, you can probably save a lot on an older macbook after the updates

Does intel have any plans for on board with it's own ram like how some ati boards have and how some nvidia chips can use?

They are here!!!

I'm not sure of the MacBook Pro's but the picture of the MacBooks is dead on what the leaked pictures show... DEAD ON! Definitely aluminum definitely sexy looking. Definitely not under $1,000.00. Although this distributor doesn't handle some residential models for other companies...

They snow massive stock of the new MacBooks. They still have the older MacBooks in large stock. Are they the under $1000.00 notebooks? No Blu-Ray. Yet.

good work, welcome to the enlightened.

wait

1. How soon will the new models be available to test and buy in stores after the press release tomorrow?

normally surprisingly quick

2. What do they do with the old models? Do they still have them available at a discount? How much of a discount would you expect?
Apple refurbs often get around 30%

I want speed, and the ability to have several applications open and running at once.
:) sorry that made me chuckle:) Any recent mac will happily chug along with loads of apps open, just load if with at least 2gig of ram. I often have 30 or so apps open and mines 2 years old.

Has this happened to anyone else...

You are SOOO happy that there is a Keynote, and you tell yourself that you are NOT going to look at this website until the Keynote steam is up so you can be sooo surprised when Steve shows off the new goodies. However, you make it until 2:30 when you can't take it anymore. You end up spoiling it for yourself and clicking over to MacRumors.com Has anyone else gone through this fight with your mind?
:apple:

livefeeds, then go back and watch the keynote.... This time, it will have to be the keynote as I will be in the dentist chair.

Where are you getting this information?

Our computer distributor. It's a very large national, and Canada, distributor.

I'm not under any non-disclosure agreements but still would rather not say who. Suffice it to say that they have nearly 750 of each of the new MacBook models.

EDIT: No sign of iLife '09 again nor of any other versions of iWork.

I don't know what I'm going to do. I could get the spoiler free link, but I get email from Apple anyway, so I would probably get a spoiler from my inbox alone. Probably, I'll go to Apple's main site and watch the keynote as soon as it's up and get the spoilers anyway.

The present update will be very meaningful for me, If apple does not provide an alternative for travelers like myself (other than MBA) I will be in the very sad condition of leaving apple for the first time in 15 years.

well, based on your number 3 - I don't see the fuss of you getting all excited about tomorrow (except for maybe - "hey I got the newest"). save yourself the money and keep an eye on http://macmall.com

they have competitave pricing and that is where I bought mine from, preconfigured with Parallels and XP.

Chck out their current discounts....

All of this is current macbook and macbook pro specs and prices. Not the new stuff.

But how do you know? I just feel like that doesn't make any sense that before the keynote, a computer distributor gets the information that only Apple has right now.

EDIT:

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought that all looked familiar, I just wasn't sure.

I can't...

I can't post the picture because this site appears to only post HTML links but it is the same aluminum of the 'leaked' photos. Same profile. I can't see the keyboard but you can guess that... The specs are from the related items...

THEY ARE HERE!!! Watch tomorrow...

I can relate with what you are saying here.

What are you guy's opinions about whether or not they will be released for sale tomorrow. If not how soon?

Well, it'd be cool if they were available tomorrow, but even iPods tend not to be available the same day as the keynote. I figure they'll be available about two weeks after the keynote. That's just a guess, mind you.

My guess is available by the weekend in the USA and up to a decade later everywhere else.

Well I need them to be released by next wednesday for sale at least online or I'm stuck with this super old outdated one I ordered a month ago but didn't get until last Wednesday.
