Hi,

I am new to your awesome mac forum and have a few questions.

I am converting from a PC to a Mac!!! Yeah!

I have been waiting patiently for the new macbooks to arrive so I can decide between purchasing the current macbook or the new one.

I have a few questions for all you knowledgeable Mac users.

1. How soon will the new models be available to test and buy in stores after the press release tomorrow?

2. What do they do with the old models? Do they still have them available at a discount? How much of a discount would you expect?

3. I am not a gamer and I don't use video- I will use this for blogging, writing, picture and file storage, photo editing and heavy internet usage. My current Dell desktop is 1.0Ghz/1GB/160GB and seems to work fine for what I need. I want speed, and the ability to have several applications open and running at once. Would you recommend that I stick to buying the current macbook version 2.4 Ghz/2GB/250GB at full price, waiting to see if I can buy said model at a discount after the new ones are released or is there something miraculous expected in the new upgrade that would affect me so that I should wait to buy the new model?

Sheesh. I know that is alot, but I'd appreciate any help!

I am a switcher too! I switched a little over a year ago. If you don't care about the new stuff coming tomorrow then I recommend buying a refub from apple.com. I bought a 24" iMac and a Black macbook and saved a lot of cash. plus both times I recieved more than what I expected. the imac came with 750GB hard drive expected 500 and macbook came w/ 160GB&2GB of mem expected 120&1
Called apple the first time about imac
they asked if I was okay with the product, I said yes.
they said it's yours!never call about the macbook I figure they fix'em and ship 'em. This also happened to a friend of mine plus they still come with the same warranty.

Wow, you got seriously played. Don't worry, it wasn't your fault, you just didn't know every single piece of Mac knowledge like some people here.

EDIT: Or were you trying to play everyone else? Kind of worked.

So that's the current white one? But the picture is different from the white ones in the distributor's website. That is different from the other ones. There are several different models of MacBooks and some have the current pictures (black AND white) and some have this one. The ones with the high stock show this picture, the other ones show the older picture and not so much stock. The white ones show it face on with the screen open, these are different. Honest... That is from the website of the distributor. You need to be logged in to see it.

I've been played... Sorry. Nothing to see here, move along...

*mumble mumble* I could have sworn they were different... Honest... Drat!

I just want something more portable than my MBP for around $800 PLEAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSE!

RIP MacBooks with great wifi range. Get ready for marginal aluminum based wifi reception. awesome.

Well, some have speculated that the outer shell will be plastic (with inner aluminum). If this is true, the MacBook would get excellent reception. Plus, we already know the new Airport Cards are behind the screen which would give it even better reception.

My Aluminium iMac has as great reception as my Plastic white MacBook.

And my black Macbook drops the wifi connection a lot more often than my iBook G4, which is rock-solid and never drops the connection. Normally it's not noticeable since it scans and picks up the router again almost immediately. But it's very annoying when connected over VPN because the entire session is lost. It's gotten to the point where now if I have to use VPN I use the iBook.

Another quick question- so do the plastic macbooks get better wifi reception than the alum mapbookpros?

so you can definetally buy the macbook tomorrow

You know, what threw me (out the window evidently) was that they, the distributor, has such HUGE stock of these. I mean like really, one model is over 800 in stock! For last years garbage, that's a lot to be carrying. Like a whole lot. Most of the MacBooks are over 500 in stock.

Did Apple just flood their distributors with this 'old stock'? How nice of them. I mean, figure this way, as soon as the new model comes out this will be like trying to get people to date your sister. Right? If they know you, you have a tough sell...

I can't speak of anything except that I jumped the shark, or was it the couch. I forget...

can some one please answer if you can buy the new macbook tomorrow because i was told by a realiable source that you can

do they have backup in case SJ drops dead? Because you know it's going to happen soon I just want to make sure the keynote goes off without a hitch.

Sorry. If you can, you can.

I'd think that Jobs wouldn't want to look like that old (probably before y'all's time)IBM comic of the IBM salesman sitting on the end of the bed telling a rather undressed woman how good it would be, when it came out later that year.

IBM used to 'pre-announce' stuff like crazy and then wondered why their stuff didn't sell... DUH!!! They once pre-announced a microcode bump for a midrange mainframe and sales plummeted. Well, why buy the slow current model when if you waited 6 months you could get the faster current model... their sales division was too good at selling what their engineering division hadn't produced yet...
