Insure your computer gear instead

Anyone think they will introduce an Apple Care+ plan with accidental damage along with the refresh?

Why not simply go to your local State Farm or Alstate agent (if you're in the USA) and get an itemized Personal Articles Insurance policy. It only costs a few dollars per hundred per year. I have this for my iPhone, MBP, 30in ACD, camera gear, and other items. It covers accidental damage, loss, theft, fire, etc. without deductible. All you need is to supply them with a copy of your receipt for each item you want covered. You can even do it as a monthly payment plan or add it to your monthly car insurance payment.

I think that the other year they brought out new iMacs while the promo was still on ..but it didn't include the recently refreshed iPods that happened around the same time , if I remember correctly ?

Cool, the first thing was what I was looking for and the terms suggest that the eligible iPods are restricted, whilst computers are basically "any computer", which is good news.

Thanks :)

As to the Mini, has Apple mostly just done stealth upgrades to it? This might be the case here. Apple doesn't talk about it much, so I can understand if they decide to ignore it officially, but then announce a specification bump.

Maybe at the end, Steve can go "And thank you all for coming. By the way, we upgraded the Mini, as well. Check the website for details. Good night!" :D

October 14th would be really really great and I do hope for new Cinema Displays at that point in time as well.

Someday they just have to update the displays!!!

the macbooks will see an upgrade soon (not only because its overdue)

on 2 sept I've received an e-mail from my local apple distributor telling us that they're doing a sale on the Macbook pro 17" model: be quick since we only have a limited amount of this in stock...

why would they plan a stock sale if there is no new model coming ;-)

The MacBook Air needs:

- True Firewire ports (repairs via Target Disk Mode, video from camcorder, etc).
- True Ethernet port (obvious!).
- More USB ports (of course!).

Until then, no purchase!

It's about time. I've been waiting bloody ages. I can't wait now I know its next month lol

Finally!

Finally - a date. But I'm wondering if I'm the only one who loves the current backlit aluminium apple keyboard. Also, I don't understand why the iPhone has a plastic back while the iPod has a shiny chrome one. Is it just me or is apple going plastic on pro and metal on entry level?

Your argument is extremely weak. That is like saying that Ferrari needs to slash the prices of their cars in half to be "price-competitive".

No offence, but your argument is the definition of weak .
Apple is in the same market as everyone else, and needs to deliver proper hardware.
Take the MBP - it's slow, and has arguably the worst screen available on any notebook.

It's a bicycle dragging that Ferrari engine around .

Your welcome :) but are you sure it's "any computer" ? .
I haven't looked but was fairly sure from the other year I did look that the mini was excluded ...

be ready for curveballs too

mini owners may soon be trading up to a replacement the size of a touch or ipod, who knows?

someone should measure the increase in craigslist laptop ads over the next few months. can one measure desperation levels too?

Multicolored MacBooks to match the new Nanos please :D

I think I could get a second laptop if it came in that groovy orange color

Your argument is extremely weak. That is like saying that Ferrari needs to slash the prices of their cars in half to be "price-competitive". Says who? You? I think companies like Ferrari (and Apple) are running their businesses just fine without your "advice". There's no rule that says you have to sell your products cheap. Ever heard of phrases such as "perceived value" or "what the market will bear"?

Obviously many of us believe that it is totally worth the additional $1400, or maybe even more. You couldn't pay me to buy an HP running Windows these days. Even if someone gave me an HP running Vista as a gift, I would turn around and sell it and use the money towards the purchase of another Mac.

I would gladly say that to anyone's face.

I agree with Apple retaining the right to charge what the market will bear.

However, the analogy is preposterous. Ferraris perform at a level far greater than a mustang. Moreover, they are handmade and exclusive due to the small number manufactured.

As much as we'd like to think our macs are special they really arent much different than a PC. The performance difference isn't that signficant and has more to do with preference. BMW v. Mercedes comparison would be more appropriate. And they tend to be in similar pricing segments...

Sorry, yeah. Mac Minis are excluded. They say, for example, "Macbooks" which doesn't restrict the buyer to just one model of Macbook, but any Macbook, customised how they like, which incidentally allows the purchase of new models of Macbook..if they're released.

I assume :p

So what?
October = little update for MB,MBP and January big revision?
so i better wait 3-4 months and get (hopefully!) a MBP with hdmi and maybe bluray :C

no need updated 08' MBP....

Okay. Compare a Lexus ES3xx with a Toyota Camry.

They both use a significant number of the same parts, but differentiate themselves with the quality of the materials or the technological features. And the process of buying a Lexus is very different then buying a Toyota (having done both in the same city from the same ownership group). The ES3xx has always looked better then the Camry, too. And finally, there is the "cachet" each brand has in the marketplace.

Taken all together, it helps convince people to pay more for the Lexus then the Toyota even though on a raw performance level (acceleration, braking, handling) they are very close.

Apple Notebook Updates on October 14th?
