Sounds great.

Perhaps prices that are actually competitive this time around, instead of being at twice the price for similar specs of other PC notebooks? The fact that I can equal the $2700 17-inch MBP's specs with an HP for $1300 is kinda sad.

i think we all know you can not buy an hp with the exact same specs as the 17 mbp. even if it were based on hardware alone. plus when taking into consideration the software and etc there is no comparison.

but i am excited to see what more they will do with the mbp, and how they will change the macbook.

i think that who ever actually thinks that the new macbooks will be aluminum or some type of metal are stupid. there is no way that the macbook and macbook pro are going to look identical besides size there needs to be some product distinction......

think bout it you guys know im probably right

WHAT

It's not going to be aluminum. Dude, don't scare me. Of course its going to be aluminum. I want that cold touch of aluminum on my palms. It's got to be aluminum. Those pictures we all saw sure looked aluminum.

Damn, I don't know what to do, I just bought my Macbook 2 weeks ago, Went in to get the free Mobile me and iWork at best buy and they gave me a new receipt for 03 of september. Meaning I have exactly until the 17 to return my Macbook .

I don't know if I want to take the 15% Restocking Fee. But It'll kill me to have a last gen a month apart. I also didn't get it through apple due to no financing. This blows.

What do you guys recommend? I have both software at home, If I return it do I have to return the software? what If I had them open? I heard about someone saying You can return it without the Programs if you say you already opened them.

what i would say is if you do want to return it, you can return it without the restocking fee if you purchase another product. so within 14 days you can exchange it for another product you wont be charged the restocking fee. but it sounds like the updates will take longer than the 14 days you have.

Happy, happy, joy, joy

F-I-N-A-L-L-Y the most awaited event of the year! Yes awesome for the ipod revamps, but I was really eager for the new Macbook and Macbook Pro updates!!! Let's hope it turns out to be true!!

Imagine: Macbook-chromatic

Silver Macbook with black keyboard
Black Macbook with black keyboard
Every other colors with white keyboard

It seems too nice to be true...

So I was just thinking....

Maybe not having 10.5.5 can point to some type of upgrade sooner rather than later with MacBooks/ MacBook Pros/ Macs in general. :)

It seems them have been running around a bunch of Release Candidates for a while. Surely, the work and testing is nearly done.

Granted, I could be completely wrong too.

Thoughts?

With as many 10.5.5 betas as have been circulating, I'm surprised we haven't seen it released yet. I thought it would be out around the end of August but maybe the attention on the new iPods caused a delay. I think we'll see it soon.

I really don't think there will be case redesigns. It will be new CPU/GPU and hard drives. Perhaps new track pads (MacBook Air style) but that is it. I would expect radical changes to be reserved for major innovations and a larger event.

IMO they wouldn't have held up the new models this long just for new chipsets and disk drives. My guess (just a guess) is that there will be some major design changes.

Um... Not exactly... Not everyone needs a laptop
with extreme video editing capabilities or a larger screen. (That's
very much distinction if you ask me).
I truly don't believe that that fact that one is plastic and the other metal
is a factor to a buyer when considering purchasing a mac laptop.
The fact that the macbook might get a metal enclosure is
because the macbook is due for a major aesthetic revamp (as is the mp)
and those details make it more appealing to consumers both old and new to
macs. I own a macbook which I bought last year for christmas
and true, I'd buy a metal cased macbook because it's more appealing to me, however I didn't buy the macbook pro because with all of its features the most that I felt needed and wanted was the metal casing. Therefore, I ended up saving about $500.

October will introduce the montevina chipset and after that there probably won't be any "big" upgrades until nehalem, but intel isn't releasing mobile nehalem until H2 2009, i.e. next summer, so we won't see nehalem macbook/pros until at least then.
The latest signs point to the rest of the Nehalem variants coming in Q4 2009 for quad-core and January 2010 for dual-core.:( It's also hinted that Sandy Bridge may also be delayed for "sufficient Nehalem lifecycle." And I also I think these Nehalems are on 45 nm instead of 32 nm, because if otherwise, Intel would have made a big deal out of "32 nm." So that would mean non-high-end Nehalems may not get 32 nm until closer to mid-2010.

I really don't think there will be case redesigns. It will be new CPU/GPU and hard drives. Perhaps new track pads (MacBook Air style) but that is it. I would expect radical changes to be reserved for major innovations and a larger event.
The original MacBook was released without an event. It's still possible that there will be an October event.

MacBook: White keyboard, MacBook Pro: Black keyboard
MacBook: Black display bezel (maybe other swaths of black), MacBook Pro: Aluminum display bezel

there needs to be some product distinction......
Specs?

Some of you seem to think apple puts something special inside the macbook pro case and that ain't the case. Charging huge premiums for no real returns should not be rewarded. Mac OS is great (and better than anything windows) but not 1400$ great.

My friend raised an interesting idea today. He was talking about how a big part of the new nanos yesterday was their rainbow of colours, and he pointed out that they could very well use those coloured aluminium exteriors for the new MacBooks. I'm not sure they'd go that far, but they might release a (PRODUCT) RED MacBook, and the new silver and black nanos with black accents are DEFINITELY what we'll be seeing - Apple has been making a transition to that style gradually since the Mid-2007 iMacs and the MacBook Air. Now the question is how we'll tell apart the MacBook and MacBook Pro - will it just be screen size or could it be more?

I just hope it looks like this mockup!!! YEAH!!!

yes

Like finally hopefully Apple releases new notebook! I've been waiting what seems forever!

I thought I couldn't wait for the new MacBooks and MBP's...

But as time has progressed (we've been hearing about upgrades ALL YEAR) I have started to realise my MB is doing very very well, and could easily last another year and a half.

The only real reason right now is HDD space and a bigger screen. So unless Apple pull something really special out of the hat "next month" then I am pretty happy with my trusty MacBook :)

That's because you don't have one. :p
Quality is far superior. I've had, sony, dell, and ibm notebooks. After couple of months of usage they feel like they're about to fall apart. :D

P.S. Every macbook has been blessed with a spirit.

ok guys, if I exchange the MacBook at bestbuy for another MacBook do I still need to pay the restocking fee ? What if I did that and then 14 days later return The unopened macbook ? Worst come to worst , couldn't I trade the MacBook unopened for store credit ??

Aluminum is the only way to go...or this

I am extremely excited about some macbook news. Even though its a rumor better than nothing. I am just throwing out their the idea of Oct 7th.

And this.:D
