Blu-Ray drive anyone? Considering 10.5.6 is rumoured to have Blu-Ray support that would be a nice added upgrade at either the base or extra addon.

Don't hold your breath. Likely won't be till Macworld at the earliest. 10.5.5 isn't even out yet. Probably will on the in the Mac Pro's for a while anyway.

Since i just ordered a new MBP - I'm sure the new MBPs will have 8 cores, 1TB hard drives, 8 gigs of ram stock, and BluRay, all for a crisp $999.

:D

That's ok, I hope they do. I knew the updates were coming, but I had no choice in buying now, I needed a laptop as a second machine muy pronto.

The main thing I hope they don't change, is that I hope they don't give the Pros a black macbook style keyboard.

I guess my point is, while I prefer OS X, I prefer specs a lot more. I could live with a Windows system, knowing that I got more than twice the machine for the money.

PC companies offer them in laptops that cost $500 or less, not $1300! For $1300, you can get blu-ray, and a screaming graphics card that murders the Macbook!

Why don't you buy a PC and shut up then...

Sorry for the bad english, I'm french lol ;)

EDIT: Ok, ok... maybe the ''shut up'' is inappropriate: sorry

Where did you see that rumor?

Right on the MacRumors site: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/549500/.

Its coming from K Rose who was pretty much spot on with the iPod prediction so...

Good point but Apple has put hidden hardware capabilities on there products before the technology was completly ironed out. The wireless N chips that shipped MB/MBP's in late 2006 were a sneaky addition and maybe the Blu-Ray drives could be too, although this would be a little different scenario.

You argument would work if Mac laptops WERE better specced-than the PC laptops that are so much cheaper. But in this case, you can either buy a car for half the price of the Ferrari that outperforms it, or, you can buy a Ferrari that costs twice as much and is slightly worse. EDIT: And a Ferrari may be expensive, but it PERFORMS. A Mac doesn't.

Vista really isn't so bad. I've got plenty of people I know who use it. After SP1, it really improved.

At the risk of sounding redundant, please refer to my comments in posts #106 and #113.

I work in the IT department of a very large fortune 50 company (sorry can't specify). We use mostly Windows PCs but have a pretty good amount of Macs for our marketing employees. I just started a new position in our department that manages the company IT assets.

I asked our inventory guy if he had any info on mac notebooks and all he said was that we basically can't order any new notebooks until November, but didn't have any specific reasons why. So this sounds like good news that would be in line with a mid-October update.

Here's to hoping:)

Your argument is extremely weak. That is like saying that Ferrari needs to slash the prices of their cars in half to be "price-competitive". Says who? You? I think companies like Ferrari (and Apple) are running their businesses just fine without your "advice". There's no rule that says you have to sell your products cheap. Ever heard of phrases such as "perceived value" or "what the market will bear"?

Obviously many of us believe that it is totally worth the additional $1400, or maybe even more. You couldn't pay me to buy an HP running Windows these days. Even if someone gave me an HP running Vista as a gift, I would turn around and sell it and use the money towards the purchase of another Mac.

I would gladly say that to anyone's face.

here, here! if you don't want to spend the extra money on a mac, then don't. you make the choice! :p

The pertinent question is, why apple cultists defend being bent over by Apple.
The same argument could be made for Windows users. That is why markets for both types exist.

To continue with my car analogy, you could say "why do people put up with the hassles of driving an exotic car? Low gas mileage, low ground clearance, not being able to leave a car unattended in certain areas for fear of vandalism, not being able to tow a trailer, etc."

The answer is quite simple: because the things that are important to you are not necessarily the same things that are important to others. The sooner you realize this little tidbit, the sooner you will realize why these Mac vs. PC arguments are pointless.

The real pertinent question should be why, every single month, 100,000 new "Apple cultists" happily walk into an Apple Store or go online to get bent over before walking out with a new Mac.

or as my friend and recent convert put it:

My Mac is way better, not better, but way better, then my old Dell.

I have been telling her that for 7 years...

I want to buy a macbook so bad and I just about did but now that the new laptops are hinted about coming out I am waiting but i can't wait much longer.... so please for a guy to keep his sanity please revise the new macbooks so I can get one....

Is 120GB the largest size available that fits in the Air? I love the concept, but it would be great if it had more memory and was able to keep the same slim profile. 200GB seems right to me, but we won't see that in the next revision.

I already have a macbook pro, but at the moment I'm ready to buy a macbook next to the MBp. I hope they'll release them soon. The macbook in his common shape I like, but because I'll buy just for fun I want a new design and/or new features.

We might get something like a big version of the iPod touch ,as a netbook...low powered with a newly invented Apple chip inside , maybe it will dock into the iMac too :apple:in some funky Apple way:apple: ......Macbooks soon though , the shopping season is almost upon us , so undoubtedly the rumours will speed up and continue to be 'leaked' till boom , Macbooks before October , nice

TabletMac

What about a TabletMac (a Multitouch Macbook Air without keyboard) on October 14th? That would be great product!

The pertinent question is, whyapple cultists defend being bent over by Apple.

I don't consider my self a cultist, but let's see...

1. Unix under the hood. Unix has been the most stable operating system on the planet (besides VMS).

2. Even with a new Windows Machine, I had my problems (broken hardware, crashes, etc). I have switched to mac 5 months ago (wow already). Not one crash. Software was cheaper to replace, plus more free opensource software available.

3. Apple may be slow at implementing new hardware, but they have less problems than generic quick adopted hardware on an issue prone OS.

4. Apple is end to end experience, so their software matched hardware and less compatibility issues.

5. Automatic backups through timemachine - on Windows you have to buy some software (like Norton save and restore) and you have to use a special disk to mount the drive and retrieve back the files. On Apple, All I have to do is take my external hard drive to another machine (does not matter if apple or pc), plug it in and browse to the file.

6. with Apple updates, I have had less issues (actually none) with software updates. Most every service pack or security update on Windows breaks something.

7. Apple is so much easier to work with.

8. Apple is very selective on the hardware they implement - so you never have to worry about compatibility issues.

9. I can get so much more done with less software on the mac. Mac has it built in.

10. Edit - oh yeah and the laptop does not feel cheaply made. My Dell Laptop would sag when I press keys in the lower right corner.

And just to know that I am not an Apple Cultist.... I tried Linux. I liked it alot, but I feel there is still much more work to do on the end user desktop and applications available. Umm... I think that is it.....

Its about time. It feels like there has been word the refresh would happen every month since july. This time it feels right.

I bet they release "the brick" on Oct 14th and then don't update the MBP and MB till January. :p

And probably the revision after that. You usually need 200 gb for video and audio editing, or gaming, right? The Air isn't designed for any of that. The limited memory, the low-power processor, and lack of a dedicated graphics card makes a 200+ HDD overkill.

Actually this may be good for me (a software trainer who travels 80% of the time). With the multiple training docs and other stuff this would be a great solution. Again, I am speaking only for myself.
