Do you think the new MacBook come with an HDMI port?

I hope that both the MB and the MBP will come with an HDMI port. :apple:

While it would be nice, Apple hasn't made that change yet. Plus when they do that you lose component (s-video) output and VGA.

Nothing stopping them offering HDMI in addition to DVI

As an additional port? AFAIK that is the only way to keep the analog signal.

Besides I don't know if Intel/Nvidia/ATI offers HDCP over DVI. Which is needed for HDMI compliance (well 1.3a compliance anyways).

Is anyone else completely sick of hearing about the stupid iPhone? It's a fantastic device, but I personally cannot have one because I am stuck in a contract with Sprint. It seems as though Apple have totally lost interest in their Mac division, which, in my opinion, is the most important part of the company. The MacBook Pro's specs are falling sadly behind the industry, its case hasn't seen any attention in 7 years, and it still costs twice as much as a comparably equipped PC. I've always recommended and praised Apple for their superb hardware and operating system, but I don't know how much longer I can promote a computer company that devotes seemingly ALL its energy into the sales of a glitzy mobile phone. :(

While i understand some of your frustration with hearing about the iPhone, which i cannot afford, and I am in a contract with Verizon, I disagree with the statement that Apple has forgotten about it's Mac division. The Pro's spec's were updated with the latest Intel processors a few months back, as were the MB's. A similarly equipped computer (to the MB, on dell's website) is actually more expensive, once you include the webcam, and other features. And the design of the pro is timeless. Other companies, like sony, are copying it's look. A kid in my class had a beautiful sony vaio, and it was almost a ripoff from a MBP. I think it is your perspective. Include the backlight keyboard, webcam, software comprable to iLife, and you will see that it is less expensive, or equally so, with buying a Mac. The other thing, is that with the other machines, you get windoze, while with a mac, you get OS X! The specs are about equal to the industry standards, :apple: is not falling behind, at least with it's laptops.

I mirror this sentiment. It is true that Apple has spent the last few months on advertising and promotion of the iPhone. This is because it is currently, without argument, their most profitable device, so understandably they're pushing it. What is more, they are developing and grooming the iPhone for a market that was, just a short while ago, DOMINATED by Blackberry and Windows CE devices. It is no exaggeration that Apple is preparing to enter the Enterprise and dominate the market. This is the reality. So yes, they are investing time in promotion of the iPhone.

That being said, Apple is far from neglecting their notebook lines. I cannot fathom why or how anyone could say that Apple's notebook line is lagging from a technology perspective. With all due respect, PLEASE wake up! We Apple folk tend to be short-sighted and spoiled. Apple has introduced features like sensor-lighted keyboard (feature established on the "old" Powerbook line), "MagSafe" power adapters and built-in webcam. Those are features that ANY PC maker could have done first, but Apple thought to introduce it first in their laptops and only now are PC makers attempting to add such features. But what about technologies that Apple has totally innovated and implemented into their laptops, such as multi-touch trackpads and "Target Mode"? These are features that I am sure you will find in PC laptops soon, but Apple is waaay ahead, having those features for at least the past 2 years. All of this while ALWAYS keeping up with the most current Intel processors. Why do people keep saying that Apple notebook computers are behind the times?

I've been dying to buy a new MacBook Pro before Sept 15 because I need a new computer and I want to take advantage of the free iPod Touch offer. Given this likely redesign, I'm now thinking about waiting. I'm new to the Apple rumors scene and I was wondering if anyone who's familiar with these things could tell me if the redesign is likely to come with a price increase. Or if it's worth giving up the free iPod Touch for. Thanks!

Today, Intel announced their Centrino 2 (Montevina) platform which incorporates a faster Penryn Core 2 Duo processor, faster bus speed, faster integrated graphics (GMA X4500) and the option of WiMax support.

The new Penryn chips will run from 2.26 GHz up to 3.06 GHz with a 1066MHz Front Side Bus. This is an improvement over the existing processors which range from 2.1 GHz to 2.8 GHz with a 800 Mhz Front Side Bus which currently power Apple's MacBook and MacBook Pro. Apple is expected to incorporate the new processors in the next version of the MacBook and MacBook Pro. Historically, Apple has not adopted Intel's platforms in their entirety, so, for example, they may choose not support to WiMax, a next generation wireless broadbrand standard.

Apple's laptops were last upgraded in February with only modest speed bumps. While Montevina's speed upgrades are also said to be modest, it has also been rumored that Apple will be revamping the physical design of their next notebooks to bring them in line with the current iMac and MacBook Air. Recently leaked photos depicting a more tapered design of the MacBook Pro are believed to be real. Apple's next laptops are rumored to arrive sometime during Q3 2008 (July-September).

Meanwhile, Intel's next major processor revision starts in late 2008 and continues into 2009 with Nehalem. Nehalem promises dramatic speed increases and increased multi-threading and multi-core designs. Nehalem processors suitable for notebooks, however, will not likely arrive until well into 2009.

MacBooks were updated to 'Santa Rosa' in... what, November? And there was a 2.6GHz MBP "option"? That's all that happened last year after the summer.

Maybe someone around here has already noted this, BUT, if the photos circulating the rumor sites claiming to be the new case of the MacBook Pro (https://www.macrumors.com/2008/07/09/leaked-macbook-pro-casing-confirmed/) is truely the new design, it doesn't appear to me to be the *MAJOR* revision some are hoping for. Maybe I can't see it from the blurry photos, but it seems to be about the same as the current design with some small tweaking. Glad I bought the latest Penryn! I'll be able to enjoy this forum on my current MacBook Pro!

Agreed. I am still hoping for more of a refinement than a complete and very unnecessary overhaul. And I am on my knees praying that there is NO MacBook (consumer) keyboard that replaces the current (very Pro) one.

Same here.

last!

just kidding, but a redesigned mac? it'd be nice to see what apple comes up with next. the current lappys and desktops are so very pretty. . they can only go up higher. . or screw it up royally.
