A redesign isn't required.

However.. the MBP needs the following issues fixed.

Dents - it's moronically easy to dent the thing.
Build Quality - The parts do not line up, worse panel gaps than an italian supercar.
Latch - mag latch. like, yesterday
Hinge - the screen does not tilt far enough back. It should go flat.
Heat - Both laptop and PSU get DANGEROUSLY hot.
Display - 1440 x 900 on 15" is not enough
Storage - MB like HDD replacement
Optical - If you want to pretend this is a machine for modern content creativity - it needs Bluray, now.

These all have to happen with the next refresh. If not, a product which is already rather expensive and a bit out of date, will become very expensive and very out of date.

Dents: Don't be a moron, then.
Build Quality: Huh? That has to be a localized issue.
Latch: Yeah, sure, why not?
Hinge: It's not a tablet.
Heat: As long as you're not a guy and are using it on your lap, I don't see the problem.
Storage: Yeah, it needs to be easier to get to the HDD.
Optical: No Blu-ray. I'd like a battery life longer than 30 minutes, thanks.

Dents - And other crack, though it'd be nice to have a stronger case. But just don't drop it.
BQ - Nope, not a big problem there, just the grey lining.
Latch - Should have been there from Penryn, but it will be soon
Hinge - Nope, I don't know why people insist on using their books like retards
Heat - not a problem with Penryn, and even if you're a dude, just don't play Crysis with the CPU directly on your nads. Put it in your LAP!
Display - not on 17" MBP, that's state of the art, and isn't the 15" 1680x1050?
Storage - yes, and hopefully two of them in the 17" don't know how, just do it!
Optical - yes, but we will see.

Do ya'll think there should/could be a way for them to fix issues that people have with Macbooks? Considering they're plastic casings. I'm just shooting in the dark here, but is there a higher grade plastic or something?

Other than that, what are some legitimate things that could be done to the macbooks?

The 15" is definitely 1440x900, but it should be upped (or be a option) to 1680x1050. The 17" is 1680x1050 with the 1920x1200 option

LED screens. Beyond that most suggestions are extravagances reserved for the likes of MacBook Pro/Air.

1680x1050 may be too much for a 15". We have some Dell D800's that have 1920x1200 15.4" screens and the icons and text are microscopic.

I'd love to see magnetic latches. I don't need my MBP screen to go 180 degrees, but I find the current "recline" to be too shallow at times.

I would not mind seeing HDMI, but not at the expense of DVI. The MB and MBP have to work with business projectors and so many of them remain VGA-input which requires DVI-I output since HDMI is digital transmission only (the D/A conversion being handled by the receiving device). Fortunately, HDMI is small enough they can add it and eSATA (one on each side).

Waiting is half the fun...yeah, right.

Since I have a good MacBook, I don't mind waiting. I know the performance upgrades in Montevina will be sufficient for the work I do right now, but there are a few features I would like to see first:
-Newer keyboard, I hear the MBP keyboard is good, but I am finally used to the chiclets
-Larger trackpad for multi-touch, iPhone has spoiled me!
-Speeds approaching 2.8 ghz
-HDMI support for my TV, or the DisplayPort that some have mentioned would be nice also

The weight isn't much more than my MB, surprisingly (though the white plastic is ridiculous to keep clean), and the design of the Pro is simple and elegant. I do not enjoy the sharp edges where my wrists lie though and wouldn't mind better resolution on the 15" Pro (at home I use a 24" Ext.).

It seems more likely that design changes would come with Nehalem and it seems like that will be an awesome system, however; I am hesitant about getting the first edition of a brand-new platform. As opposed to the pinnacle of the previous platform. Guess I'll just have to see what Montevina has to offer. I'm kind of an impulse shopper anyway, it'll come out and I'll either "have to have it!," or "nah, I can wait...."

Neccessity drives decision, and I can afford to wait. If you need a book for school, the current selection is more than enough for most students, especially Freshmen!

What a lame argument. Of course the fonts and icons are all going to be tiny at that resolution - if you're using the tiny default sizes. These things are all scalable you know. FYI That means you can make them bigger. ;)

If 10.6 includes the resolution-independent GUI, it becomes even more of a non-issue.

I don't really care about the screen resolution. As long as it is an LED on the MacBook. On the MacBook Pro, we don't need much more than it is right now.

Yes, and they look like crap when you do because they're bitmaps and not vector images. Resolution independence via vector drawing routines would solve the problem of making the text look pretty, but as you increase the size of windows, icons and fonts to make them readable, you give up much of the extra screen real estate those higher resolutions bring.

revision of MBA?

what do you think about a revision of the MacBook Air since the MB and MBP are going to get a new case.

presumably the leaked design of the new MBP

Finally

the news were getting slow and so what the hype. Hopefully, this is true because then this a sign that new MacBook Pro's and Macbook's are coming... SOON!!!!

Although I'm new (3 months) to Apple, I'd have to say that the MacBook is the best designed and performing notebook I've owned (going back to a 1986 Toshiba 1100+) whether Toshiba, IBM, Sony, Dell, or HP. I hope Apple would not redesign any of its three models just for design sake. I have, however, noticed that the MacBook (and Pro for that matter in side by side in store comparisons) all need the MacBook Air screen. It is the closest to the screen on the iPhone, which I think is the gold standard for device screens. Also, why don't they offer a 320gb HD option. I put a 5400 rpm WD in my MacBook, and 7200 rpm models are now available. Offering only a 200gb 7200 or 320gb 4200 option for the MacBook Pro is so behind the times it hardly seems like Apple.

I think a slight revision to the MBP would be cool. I love my Al Powerbook design, but a slight update would be a welcome change. I'm betting it'll take on some of the characteristics of the Macbook Air - black keys for one, and a few other things that will probably be pleasant surprises.

Nice...

Haha. You don't need to be on the defensive dude. Some people may hate it. Some people may like it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Let's all now play the waiting game and see if the MBs and the MBPs really
gets redesigned.:cool::D:eek::p:cool:

Nice mock up. Who knows that may be the next design. There is a quiet whisper the "new design" will be out by September. Perhaps in time for the holiday?
