...if only Cupertino would hurry up and release the updates. I've been patiently waiting for months and am starting to get a little annoyed. Can we at least get some leaks/new rumors in the meantime...

They won't be out until August. How can you justify being annoyed when the chipset doesn't exist yet?

You want new rumors/leaks? Make some up! That's the best part of these forums; making up specs based on fact and seeing how plausible they are in the eyes of the community.

Heck, yeah! 1,000th reply!

I guess I should have said I wish Apple would at least give us some sort of hint as to what their plans are so I can at least have an idea of when I will be able to purchase my first Mac. But we all know how Apple operates. And I guess that lack of info does make things interesting.

I agree with the people that want a customizable apple logo with an aluminum shell. Still, I'm brining it up again, the Clamshells were the best design in history--other than their bulk!

For the Macbook, I'd like to see some more power, and maybe a better video card - although I wasn't concerned with that before I started reading on this board - so maybe not.

backlit keyboard, mag latch, and other aesthetically and ergonomically pleasing updates that are on Macbook pros and airs, and maybe some new ones that are on neither yet.

And then a case redesign. Something durable but still sticking to the macbook's spirit and look. It doesn't have to be thinner, but if they make that work then it'd be cool. I have faith in whatever mac ends up doing in this case. And I hope I don't regret saying that.

Isn't the point of the MacBook that it's the middle-of-the-road budget option? if it gets all the features present on the other models(thinner, more power, video card, aluminium etc), what would be the point in separate lines of products?

I don't know. I'm just rambling of things I'd like to have on my macbook when I get it - It wouldn't bother me if they don't update the video card, or if they choose another casing material. Of course, the other lines will be updated as well. So when it seems the macbook is catching up, the macbook pro will still be a step ahead.

I agree, there needs to be separation, but what I would like Apple to do is make it so that users have the option to put at least a beefier GFX card in the book.

That's the only reason for a redesign. Personally, the Mac Book has the best design to it of any notebook I have seen, with the Air a close but weird looking second (mainly do to strength).

I fixed that for you, lol. and btw, the MB already has the mag latch, as does the air, it is the MBP that does not, just to point that out. And since we're over 1000 posts, i hope the update comes out soon.

I have an eMac which has done me well. But I would like a laptop just for portability. I don't like the MacBook's plastic because it seems like once you drop it, it would fall apart. I like aluminum. I just don't have the Air or the Pro.
So I am just looking at MacRumors everyday to see if invitations have come out for the new event that is who knows when. Since school is starting and the new processors, I just can;t see why Apple hasn't updated the Macbook already!

with uni starting in august, holding off the desire to get the MB now especially with free iPod touch is rather hard to take... a gamble of buying now and the refresh comes soon after 14th July is the worse that is going to happen for me to own my first mac..

saw the real thing over the store yesterday, as a consolation, I thought the current MB is a visual art by itself.. plastic casing, it might well be the last mac laptop with this material since the world is going green into the future... getting it before the whole new design comes out might be more desirable than a new design that is going to be a mainstream look for sometime to come? but that's from my heart... my head see the other side as more rational...

But it's always a Tuesday.
14th July releases new chip, 15th July, (Tuesday!) releases new design! :p

I'd really like to see a titanium color scheme accented with black rubber for durability. Especially for the MacBooks, something with a tough, durable design that is stylish as well. Laptops are hauled everywhere and take quite a beating, so strategically placed rubber will not only make scuffs more rare, it will make the macbook easier to handle.

I"m new here and this will be my first post.

Just throwing it out there... and I know it's not likely or even a consideration because of cost, but I would love to see the next MacBook Pro in carbon fiber. It would be ultra lightweight and there's so much in the way of design that can be done with carbon fiber. No other computer manufacturer has used it... it would only make sense that Apple would set the next trend by using it.

...my 2 cents.:p

Actually, the new Voodoo laptop is in carbon fiber.
You can check it out on HP's website I believe.

And, not to mention that alot of carbon fiber yellows.
I personally would not want my machine to turn yellow over time.
Even though that's an issue with current white MacBook's.

Honestly..
All I want is a backlit keyboard in the new macbook.

I'm not to picky.

Though adding some aluminum would be better than christmas. :p

my current laptop of 4 years is about to kark it any day now, harddive making lots of noises, gets really hot, fan is going crazy, screen flickers.

im getting a macbook, but i only wish the macbooks had the following 3:
internal SD card reader.
express slot
3x USB ports

and i guess HDMI would be nice to send the image over to my tv.

i could only hope.....

An aluminum MacBook with a 8400m GS stuck in it would still be further separated from the 15" MBP than the 15" MBP is from the 17" MBP.

Likewise, it would also be separated from the MBA by being much thicker and heavier.

There's no need to cripple products unnecessarily just to make them different. Just by having distinct models at each screen size, Apple has a hell of a lot more differentiation than any other major computer manufacturer. Dell, HP, and others sell four or five different models at every screen size.

With regards to carbon fiber for the MBP... I think if Apple had any inclination to use carbon fiber in near-future notebooks, the MBA would have been made out of it.

Proof? Yeah. That's what i thought

Proof to the contrary, yeah, figured you didn't have it either.

newbs.

As for crippled Apple hardware, Apple doesn't do that intentionally. They do it because of the design of the case. It's so thin that they don't have anywhere to put a bigger hotter GFX card, so they are forced to stick with the integrated chip.

I'd love to see a redesign that allows for a GFX card in the MB, and more hardware in the 15" and 17" MBPs.

There won't be a new design, everyone can get over it now.

See... I'm a creative person. I love to draw, I love to write, I love to make music.

So when I tell you that I'm having trouble coming up with a total redesign for either the MacBook Pro or the Mac Pro (which doesn't need anything done to it except maybe another double-wide PCIe slot or another ODD bay), I'm telling you that there is not much that can be done to either of them to make them better than what they are right now.

Magnetic latch, port changes, a little thinner. Nothing more needs to be done, because anything more would be unnecessary.

Don't worry, I am with you on it. I love the current Mac Book design personally, and would love to have a refined look on the MBP.

I am not clamoring or begging or stressing out over a rumored (since it's not very likely) redesign to come at some unforeseen point in the future.

I don't even think the Mac Pro would even need a double wide PCI slot unless it had SLI or Crossfire in Mac OS X natively, not run under Windows. Or if Apple is going to release more GFX options strictly for gaming and not workstation class. It's be nice though.

I'd like to see just one more HDD slot personally.

This is the first post from this thread. In April. OF LAST YEAR. He won't even get July right, since Montevina probably (I want July) won't come out until August. Isn't that a clue as to them not doing anything drastic? Seriously, the design is kick-awesome now. When I said, "port changes", I meant HDMI for DVI, an eSATA added, add another USB to each model, and swap the FireWire 800 with a FireWire 3200 (backwards compatible anyway).

This is basically what I'm talking about.

I have no stance on the keyboard either way, since I've never used either of them. I can't tell you which one is better.
"The MacBook one!" "The MacBook Pro one!" "You shut up!" "Chicklets FTL!"

No, you both shut up. I refuse to make a decision until I've used both of them and can weigh my personal opinion.

I take it most people that want one don't know why they want it, or just want it so that it's new and flashy.

Very consumer-ish if you ask me, but what do you expect when owning an Apple product is now a fad.

Take a trip back to the iPod threads Tallest, the thread talking about an update to the Classic took the same route.
