I disagree on this as a generalization, but I do believe that it can easily be used as one. My faith compels me to strive for excellence in technology and art and using my talent to help others around at home and around the world. I would think that "organized religion" has a very likely chance of turning into "group think" which is a dangerous thing. However this Pope (and I'm not Catholic by the way) has really shook things up. He's a really humble guy who I think is breaking down many of those issues in the Catholic church. I'm really interested in what he has to say about America and it's participation in the world. (again, I'm not Catholic... non-denominational protestant if you must know but I hate to think in terms of labels)
You can also say things like news, the media, movies, professional sports teams, drugs, advertising, fast food, republicans, democrats and any number of other things are a tool of suppression to sedate the masses. You find something that gets people all riled up and then add some brainwash tactics. Look at Donald Trump. That dude is scary with how he is directing masses of people to think stupid things (sorry if that offends anyone, but you may want a history lesson on fascism and then compare and contrast that to Trumps current campaign tactics)
The fact is I believe humans are prone to brainwashing and it's leveraged by many types of groups and organized religion has been especially known for it, but I don't think we can generalize people of faith with the mindless masses.
You are generalizing here. Might as well say something blatantly racist. The fact is that while some priests in the Catholic church have done this, it is not fair to say the entire church (all believers around the world) are guilty pedophiles. That is simply untrue and without logic.

so if you're disappointed then so be it.. but realize your disappointment stems from something other than what you're saying it does.

THe scary part is I'd have agreed with you 3 years ago until I did research. Pedophilia is extremely common in the Catholic church. It's prevalent. You should do some research with an open mind.
You know what was worse than the acts themselves? The coverups of over a couple hundred cases. And it really happened, too. It's not like I'm making stuff up. C'mon do a NYT search from 2 or 3 years ago, your memory can't be that short. Let me tell you something, after the crap they pulled they'd better give money to the poor.
You are referring to the Catholic church. The "church" is bigger than one denomination. Care to share some of your research?
So when the Pope (at the time) and high officlas in the CATHOLIC church got flack for the coverups and apologized to the victims, they did so unneccessarily. I see. Doctor, your patient is bleeding and you're gonna lose him. I'm sorry for your loss.
I'm Jewish by birth. But I'm eating a bunch of hotel room service right now, so clearly not very practicing. I have no horse in this race. But the casual trashing of Catholics and the church is a little sick. The child touching coverups are deplorable, true. Those people and the folks who conspired to protect them should be harshly prosecuted.
The Catholic church is overwhelmingly filled with noble, well-meaning, loving people, however. That much is undeniable, even to the most bitter. Many of these wonderful people frequent these forums. Attacking this Pope, one of the most progressive and legitimately saintly religious leaders in our lifetimes (if not the most) is uncalled for, as are the attacks on the Church because you're mad you can't get your toy in time. Shame on you (in the most Game of Thrones and SJW type of shaming shame).

And I'd be shocked if other religious groups (e.g Jews, Hindus and Muslims) haven't done the same thing and have merely covered it up better as "honour".
