Oh ****! Thanks! It worked! “Invite in person” is the only option I didn’t think to click. 🤦🏻‍♂️

After all of this, I don’t care if I can even migrate. I just want to get my media account added back and forget this ever happened. I’m so annoyed.
Yup. I almost don’t wanna risk it again if and when this gets sorted out, but I really do want to merge my accounts. This shows how tenuous the whole situation is and has been.

A couple things I noticed with the migration. I expected that it would not work when I did it because I had just purchased a movie earlier in the day before I read about this. Also, I did not disable family sharing because I figured my purchase would stop the migration. The migration was successful and everything transferred over. Family sharing is still working just fine and all my subscriptions carried over. When it completes, it says that you need to sign out of Media/Purchases with the old account on any other iOS devices/Macs/AppleTVs/HopePods and sign back in with your primary account. It also says the music library will take longer to carry over. I noticed that cloud library was now disabled on all my devices, however, I noticed my iPhone sync the library so when that happened I enabled cloud library on all my devices. Although they did sync, I noticed that I no longer see Recently played or recommendations in apple music (it looks like the home screen when you first sign up). Not sure if this was supposed to carry-over or if I turned on cloud library too quickly. All my playlists are synced and all my albums are there. As others mentioned, I had to unlink and re-link Movies Anywhere but luckily the 180-day wait period was not enforced. Up Next for the aTV app carried over my viewing history. Not sure why Apple Music did not.

For anyone facing the dreaded unable to migrate error: I spoke with Apple Support and they are not able to remove the 90 day lockout for those who removed the media/purchases account from the Family Purchase Sharing.

Instead, they had me add this account as an additional family member. Combined with the primary iCloud account being used for purchase sharing, this allows the Apple One etc. subscriptions and purchases to resume to the whole family.
This doesn’t help people that are already at the limit of family members.

Migration was successful. I completely logged out of ALL devices with my secondary account (on iPhone, MacBook & Apple TV). I am having trouble with the Apple TV. I keep getting a popup that says "Apple Account Verification: Enter the password for (secondary email address)" or "Apple Account Verification: Open Settings to continue signing in with (insert my secondary email address here)". But I don't want to log in with the secondary email address and when I click the settings button it shows the correct primary email address logged in. Checked Users & Accounts in Apple TV Settings as well, all checks out.

I was thinking this might have something to do with one of the apps being tied to the secondary email address so I tried doing a complete factory reset. That didn't solve the issue. I also tried deleting ALL the apps installed on the Apple TV, but even with all the apps deleted, I am still getting the message. I don't know what else to try to get this fixed. The message keeps popping up every few seconds rendering the Apple TV useless.

This happening to anyone else? Or does anything have any ideas of what else to try?

I haven't tried the merge yet, but I did notice that even though I have the limit of 6 already filled, when I clicked on the + to add another, it actually said I have one more to add. Maybe they added this just for this reason?

I started doing that before realising it would cost a fortune in external hard drives. In my experience there is very little difference in price between iTunes and buying the DVD.
Most drives, internal or bespoke external drives, cost less then $0.02/GB. This generally works out to be a bit cheaper than many blurays. Of course you still have to download the media, whether you fly the Jolly Roger or fork up the dough makes a difference too. I think it really comes down to the fact that in the not to distant future, buying physical media probably wont be an option. Better to get drives now while they’re cheap I say.

If I am not mistaken, possibly requiring the password from the secondary account is mentioned in the support note links in the article. I expected to have to do that but, I wasn't asked.

I didn't have that issue, but on some of my Apple TVs, I had issues signing back in with the primary account. I signed out of the "Store" with my old account and then kept selecting finish signing in and chose my iPhone. However, the settings app would freeze. What ended up working was selecting sign in manually.

For your problem, I'd recommend signing out of the store under your user profile. Then, sign back in manually rather than using an iPhone to complete the sign-in. Also, I'm assuming you are only using the default user. Hopefully you are not signed into any additional users that also have the store set to your old account.

Also, if you have to revert like this AND children in your Family, you will need to mark the Secondary AppleID/Purchase account as a parent or else they will get a Connection error even though it looks like playlists are back .

So somehow I ended up with 2 Apple Music subscriptions on my account. I had one migrate over which I set to expire at the end of the paid period which is Feb 18. I also had a 3 month free trial offer for buying a new device. I got a pop up telling me that expires in 3 days so I decided to see what happened if I took it.

Rather than add it to my current subscription, it created a brand new one. Likely because the original one was made on my secondary account pre-migration. I have no idea what will happen when the the initial one ends.

This is actually kind of annoying as I had a 4 month free trial from Target that I wanted to use on Feb 18 which is why I set my other subscription to expire.

I did try to just login with the secondary account when it prompted, but it just keeps popping up after i try, over and over again. No matter how many times I try to login with the secondary account when it prompts, it just keeps popping up.

I thought the same thing. I tried doing a manual login instead of using the iPhone to login, but that didn't change anything either. Almost tempted to undo the migration. I did send a ticket to the Feedback app on my phone so they were aware. Maybe it's something they can look into. Good news is it didn't pop up when I was watching something and only happens when I am not watching something and it's idle on the app screen. You're correct about the default account. I only have one account logged in at the moment.

One other thing to try, open the home app on your iPhone and update the music account that you are signed in with on your profile to the new account. I had to do that with my HomePod, but Apple TV users can also be setup through the iPhone Home app and it may be trying to push the old account info to your Apple TV.

My issue with the "Recently Played" section not showing on the home tab is now resolved. I tried turning off library sync (use listening history was enabled) and realized that it wipes recently played from the device. After the migration was complete and I enabled library sync, this is where I must have had my play history get wiped. After turning library sync back on and playing some songs, the "Recently Played" now shows up on my Home tab. Also, "Recently Added" in the library tab is now in sync across my devices (it had brought over some old playlists and placed them as most recent so I deleted them).

TLDR: this happened to me and I fixed it by walking away and coming back later, essentially “turning it off and back on again”

Thanks for reminding me that I forgot the Apple TVs, where I promptly ran into this problem. When the dialog came up, I figured I’d just try signing in and figure out what it actually wanted, but the dialog kept popping up afterward anyway. It then started doing it literally every second. It even locked me out of the secondary account, and of course I’m already logged out of the secondary account on every other device. I got on chat with Apple support and they don’t have much experience with this. He then asked what steps I had done to troubleshoot and I realized, I’d don’t do tech 101, turn it off and back on again. Well the Apple TV turned itself off aN hour before I realized I should try rebooting or resetting, and when I turned it back on, the problem seems to have went away. Now being locked out of the secondary account is a problem for another day.

I had this issue, and tried Authenticating as requested. It didn’t change the account, but it also appeared to do nothing since it kept popping up, no matter how many times I entered my credentials. In the end, it may have done something and it’s just bugged on the backend because walking away and coming back later “fixed” the problem.

Yes this exact thing is happening to me. It’s making me crazy and i am unable to use the Apple TV currently. I’ve tried all the things: logging out of everywhere with the secondary account, restarting everything, turning off Home Sharing. If you use Apple Home there is a setting there which also wants you to remove the secondary account. Did that. Nothing. Except an endless Apple Account Verification loop with my old/secondary account.

It might have just gone away on its own this morning. I’ll check again after work today and see if I’m still having the issue. I was able to watch some shows last night without any issue. This morning there wasn’t any pop ups. It might have just needed time to finish doing whatever it was doing on the server end.

I had a few apps which I was not able to update. It asked for a password and showed the old email address from the secondary account. It asked for a password because I deleted all trusted devices on the Apple Account Website because I want to fully switch over.

I then tried for those apps with that Update issue to offload the app and reinstall it. That seems to work. So last night while watching tv I thougt I go to "Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage", sorted the list by name and go trough every app, press Offload and then reinstall. It took me about 1h to do so with 316 App (I know, way too many).

This seems to fix it and I am able to normally update all apps. I did it also with my work iPhone and my iPad which had much less apps installed.

Apple TV showed me the login screen a few times but now not anymore. I hope this is fixed too.

So all in all it was a bit of work but I am happy, that from now on I can only 1 Apple Account with my own Domain in iCloud. In settings it still shows my iCloud address (@me.com) but that is fine. All invites and stuff go out with my own domain.

I'm struggling to understand exactly what this does, and the Apple Support documents have confused me further.

Is it that you can merge an old iTunes account with an Apple ID/Account? What about if you made two separate iPhone IDs (for example, with two iPhones) that you now wanted to combine? Or perhaps creating a brand new Apple ID/Account (to use a new e-mail address or something) and moving your purchases over; is that supported by this process? What determines which one is primary and which is secondary? etc
