I’m assuming it’s somehow related to media rights, not the GDPR. Because that list of countries is very specific and India and the UK aren’t covered by the GDPR.
The UK is currently covered by (its own variation post Brexit) GDPR… UK GDPR but yes, I can imagine it's something to do with rights, licensing or even just how the local arm of Apple is constituted…

Some one wrote *ell must have frozen over LOL. So true!!! I've considered on multiple occasions loosing some lifetime subscriptions that I had as promotions just so I could do this LOL LOL. I hated having 2 accounts. Well I migrated, pretty seamless. Hopefully I didn't loose anything lol.

I also don`t think it has something to do with GDPR. Also India is not able to do that.
And here in Switzerland we are not part of the EU but GDPR is also valid here and I was able to do the migration today.

And this is what it looks like when you go to update your apps for the 1st time since “the almighty merge.”

Does this mean you are going to have to enter your Apple ID password each time you update an app that was moved over?

No, this was just the first time logging in since the merge was completed. Just wanted people to see the steps post-merge.

My Apple ID never had a single app/music/movie associated with it, just iCloud+ …the “secondary” has always had all my media purchases, so it was quite distinct.

Found another issue after I migrated.

When I went to update an installed app it made me enter my secondary account password on my iPhone and iPad (not my Mac). After doing that I needed to enter my primary account password to view my media account. I believe this is because it needs to log in as the account an app was downloaded under which was the secondary one. I’m hoping it remembers the password as and I don’t want to have to delete and reinstall all my apps to get them to update without requiring me to enter a password every time.
This happened to me as well. It’s concerning. Not sure why it would do that if the purchase has been migrated. I put in my secondary account password and it let me download the updates. I want to be rid of that secondary account for good.

Been looking for this for awhile now, but I have been using my Yahoo email as my primary Apple ID for years now, so it seems like it’s a moot point for me to migrate since I never purchased anything via my Gmail Apple ID.

Just a note. I had to relink all the apps to Apple TV again. The first 3 I had to link one at a time and then somehow all the others linked automatically.

I believe this is because the apps are signed with the account id that installed them. As such to update an already installed app requires the password for the account that installed it. If the app is deleted and redownloaded it will be signed with your primary account. The only upside I’ve found is it only asked me once and remembered.

On a side note, the secondary account isn’t “gone” it’s just linked to the primary account. If you go into your media account settings for the primary account you can see the secondary account is listed there with an “unmigrate” link. As such do NOT delete your secondary account after you migrate or it’s likely very bad things will happen.

For anyone facing the dreaded unable to migrate error: I spoke with Apple Support and they are not able to remove the 90 day lockout for those who removed the media/purchases account from the Family Purchase Sharing.

Instead, they had me add this account as an additional family member. Combined with the primary iCloud account being used for purchase sharing, this allows the Apple One etc. subscriptions and purchases to resume to the whole family.

That happened to me several times last night. I just kept trying and it finally connected.
I called apple tech - they don't know what's going on but they finally have the documentation about this migrate purchases feature. I'll just wait it out a few more days and see if the connect error still shows up. It's not a network problem on my end.

Careful here. I just did the merge, and all the music I had on my phone that I didn’t buy from Apple/iTunes is not there. All but 2 playlists are also missing. Song count was over 10k, now down to about 1500.
It says it could take a few hours for the music library to migrate, but I’m glad I have backups just in case.
I've been asking Apple for this for years — I want to do it right away, but am worried about my Apple Music Library — both my own added media (non-Apple Music), as well as all the content I have added and liked from Apple Music.

When migrating from a secondary account to a primary, what happens with your Apple Music Library? Both persoanlly added media and content from Apple Music? Can anyone update here?

Can you please elaborate on how to do this? I’m locked out and furious at the moment. How do you invited yourself to your family and use the secondary account?

In the Family tab, click on the + icon at the top right, then select "Invite Others", and finally "Invite in Person". That will bring up a login screen.

Once signed in, all the subscriptions will be back instantly, and family members have confirmed that access is indeed restored.

I think we need to tread VERY carefully after doing this. Don't remove this account from the family for any reason, as I believe adding/removing from family has its own 90 day lockout.

I've got a calendar reminder for 90 days....Worst case if I can't get the migration done by then, then I can simply restore that media account as my purchase sharing and we'll be back to square 1.

Oh ****! Thanks! It worked! “Invite in person” is the only option I didn’t think to click. 🤦🏻‍♂️

After all of this, I don’t care if I can even migrate. I just want to get my media account added back and forget this ever happened. I’m so annoyed.
