After more than 100 tries and hours on the phone with Senior Support, I miraculously was able to complete the migration last night. I was an iTunes Match user and did not change ANY of my family share settings. Dare I say it, it just worked!

If it hadn’t worked for you previously, it might be worth another try!

Wow, that is wild. Congratulations! I am very excited to try this out again, but I've got 21 days until I can change my iCloud's purchase sharing back to my secondary, allowing me to drop my secondary from the family sharing (which is necessary as I am locked out from switching my sharing account again within the 90 days).

Will revisit this in exactly 3 weeks! Can't wait! Right now I don't even see the migrate button anymore, probably since my secondary is a member of the family sharing.

Do you know if senior support did anything to your account/s?
You gave me hope... opted out of my TestFlight betas... tapped Migration.... still not eligible. :(

I would take anything Apple Support says with a grain of salt, especially tier 1 or 2.

The secondary account can’t be in a family, but the primary can be. My secondary was in the same family as my primary. It would not let me migrate because my secondary was in a family. Once I removed my secondary from my family I could migrate it to my primary. I did not need to remove my primary from my family (it was the family owner).
How long did you have to wait once you removed your secondary to your primary?

I got an error specifically telling me the secondary couldn’t be in a family group. Once I removed my secondary from my family, I could migrate immediately.

Welp still unable to migrate. Not sure if it’s a family sharing issue since I don’t get any error messages about that. Just the vague one that most people are getting when it fails. Think I’m gonna call Apple support and pray their techs are much more knowledgeable about it than they were when I called when this feature first was available

You should be able to use Console on macOS (https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/console/cnsl1012/mac) or a third party app like iMazing (https://imazing.com/guides/how-to-access-iphone-ipad-console-log) to view the console log from the iPhone, while you try and do your migration.

Inspired by all of you - I am still getting the same error about the stupid music library data on my 'primary' account that I don't care about and just want replaced with my secondary account.

Thanks for sharing. Just tried again, having given up previously, and it worked immediately and painlessly!
Yeah, I had tried before and was disappointed but tried again and worked flawlessly. They must have fixed something recently.

Just a FYI for those that have migrated. I used migration assistant to transfer my Mac to a new one. Shortly after logging in I got promoted to log in to my secondary account that I migrated in addition to the primary after opening an app. That sent a MFA code to my phone. As such it appears the secondary account is still used behind the scenes for some things.

Also migrated. Truly amazed, as I expected to be bounced due to having an Apple Music free 3-month trial on its release using my primary iCloud account (between release date 2015.06.30 and 2015.09.30).

The only thing I can think of is that I remember exporting (or even manual creating?) a list of all my AM subscriber music tracks I had added to my library, after I knew I didn't want to continue at the time(*), and then I manually deleted all AM subscriber tracks entirely from my library – meaning there was no connected music library data.

(*AFAIR due to the whole screwing-up of people's libraries with wrong live instead of studio track versions, along with many users getting DRM'd tracks instead of non-DRM'd versions at the time – both that were later fixed.)

Note: I also think that Apple have updated the two main articles on this with clearer info, so it may behove people to read them again.

Ditto on everything you just said. Their info looks/sounds different than before when mine didn't work. Try again Folks!

It looks like they removed this restriction:

  • You can’t migrate purchases if you’ve set your Apple One subscription to provide iCloud storage to a third, different account. Find out about Apple One and iCloud storage.

My secondary account just left family sharing, and I’m temporarily double subscribed to Apple One Premier to try to facilitate this migration (waiting for the 90 day cooldown to be over so I can re-add secondary as my primary’s purchase sharing for family)…..However, there is no migrate button.

Does anyone have any experience with migrate button taking a while to show up after leaving family sharing?

Or perhaps I’m still ineligible due to the music library data issue….although in the past I saw the migrate button even though it still failed.

Edit 1: Checked again and still no migrate button, but my payment methods had been removed so I re-added them. Leaving family sharing appears to still unwinding…

Edit: Still no migrate button. Perhaps going to have to wait until I can sort the purchase sharing and then cancel my redundant Apple One Premiere, starting a new 90 day count down to eliminate the music library data…THE SAGA CONTINUES.

Following successful migration, am I right to presume that my yearly iTunes Match subscription which ends on 2025.06.30 and was under my secondary account, will now auto-renew under my primary iCloud account?

Or do you have to manually re-sub under the primary account when it ends?

(...so many questions, lol!)

EDIT: On iOS, under Apple Account [My Name] > Subscriptions, it shows the iTunes Match renewal there (along with all the other ones I use: 2TB iCloud+/Apple TV+/AppleCare+ on a MBP). So hopefully an auto-renew will be the case. 🤷‍♂️

Wow thank you. I hooked up to console, and sure enough I’m getting this same damn error message.. but it’s weird because I never used Apple Music on main Apple ID.. I did subscribe to Apple One briefly thinking that was the issue. The restriction was that the Apple ID that's being migrated from can't provide iCloud storage for another account. However this seems to have been removed and I went back to subscribing to Apple One on my secondary Apple ID.

Until this day, I never subscribed to Apple Music on my primary Apple ID so I'm confused why I can't migrate because of this supposed music library data that doesn't even exist.

still no luck on my end, though... Yesterday, I tried once again after confirming that my primary AM account only has the U2 album, which I have kept hidden. still see the error message.

It's so crazy...Here you are with an error message, but my migrate button still isn't showing up at all! It used to and I received the error message, but now the button is gone completely.

According to the documentation it sounds like not seeing the button is the expected behavior if you are unable to migrate for whatever reason. Nonetheless, I don't know why I am not seeing the button, and then there are plenty of folks like you who can attempt to migrate unsuccessfully.

Is there anyone else who's missing the button completely??

Tried it a few weeks after this feature launched, left family sharing and the button never showed up either. So I don't know what the other factors are. It's so badly designed that they don't give you actionable feedback on what you can do.

Hey have you had any updates with this? I got the same exact error message. Might try apple support again last time I reached out to them and told them I was getting this, they just regurgitated and said you need to make sure there isn’t any library data on both accounts but there isn’t. Only on the one I want to migrate from

Thanks again must have missed the UK release.

Was trying it all afternoon and initially no joy. Made sure I followed all the pre-migration steps and could not understand why it didn't't show me an option to migrate.

Eventually called Support and the guy was brilliant. Turns out he learned something new too. In short if you have TestFlight installed, you need to makes sure you either all TestFlight apps. As soon as I downloaded Teslfight, exited any app I was testing, the option showed up. (Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but just iim case it helps anyone else out)

Can't believe that after all these year as a @.mac customer, I now have one Apple Account!
