Apple has begun offering popular journal app Day One 2 for free through the Apple Store app for a limited time.

To take advantage of the promotion, open the Apple Store app, scroll down, and tap on the Day One 2 banner. Read the terms and conditions, tap on the green "download now for free" banner, sign in to your Apple ID account, and tap on "Redeem" in the top-right corner. The app will then begin downloading automatically.

Day One 2, normally $4.99 on the App Store, allows you to create a journal your life, ranging from once-in-a-lifetime events to everyday moments. The app features a timeline for browsing through past photos and notes, while you can also record the location, weather, time, and date of your life experiences.

The app is only free if you download through the "Apple Store" iOS app on your iPhone. If you try and go directly to the app through the link in this article or in iTunes you will pay $4.99.

GOT IT*** we are all doing it wrong. Goto the Apple Store App. Not the App Store. There is a coupon code you get to use for a free download.

Be careful.

Many reviews in the UK are saying that you give up possession to all your content if you use this app.

I haven't read the terms and conditions, but isn't Apple very much in the debate of pro-privacy right now? Would seem weird for them to fight the FBI to keep phone's locked, while selling your journal data...

This is so worth it! So good.

Some of the bigger differences over the old version include: ability to create multiple journals, multi-photo support per entry, geo-tagging, ability to sort/view by location/photo/calendar view. There are many enhancements. I got day one for free like this back in the day, and I didn't hesitate to purchase the upgrade when it came out. I also have it on my mac. It all syncs wonderfully. You can also password protect if you want.

You don't give up ownership of any of your content UNLESS you decide to publish it publicly. The default is that all of your content is private and owned only by you. What they do say is that if you make your content public on their platform, they own it, which is questionable but seems pretty standard. Who owns the comment you just published on MacRumors, for example?
